  1. This is the Coca-cola vs Pepsi dilemma - the LS needing a sub(s) or not.
  2. As mentioned above the $240 price makes the KMs a no brainier provided they are in working order. The dents/holes in the dust covers have .001% impact on the actual performance of the driver. If it would make you feel better just take a small dab of silicon to put over the holes. Here is a link to a place you could buy some new ones if the urge moves you that much. https://www.simplyspeakers.com/search.html?k=dust+cap Curious how are your soldering skills or have someone that can? The capacitors in the crossovers should be updated being they are well over 20 years old. Cost could be as little as <$20 easy and is something that could be done at your leisure. BTW, “recap'ing” xovers has nothing to do with this perticular speaker and has everything to do with age only.
  3. They are both over priced IMO though the Quartets are closer in a realistic price, what area are you from? Strictly going by sound preference the forte II over the Quartets having owned both. My first set of Klipsch were Quartets back in the very early 90's. I wanted the forte IIs but the wife put the brakes on the extra money. Or have prices gone up that much? Three years ago I picked up an “ok” pair of forte IIs for $400 and had to re cone both of the passive radiators for another $100.
  4. These were suggested to me by another member here and they worked for my forte II's https://www.parts-express.com/mini-gold-plated-insulated-5-way-binding-post-banana-jack-set-2-red-2-black--320-3375 edit: opps, never mind looks the cup is busted. Use a good plastic glue and it should work just fine.
  5. Another two very late 80's/early 90's Denon models to consider are pma-720 & pma-920.
  6. PM sent, The T500's would be my first choice by far having owned the T5000's & listening to KG5's. Would it be worth the three hour drive is up to you but I would do it. Yes you may need to give T500's a little bit of loving and for me it was rewarding with the end results. You really need to give them both a listen to see what you like since you are coming from Bose which sound so very different from Klipsch. Your taste & eardrums may vary.
  7. Taking nothing away from the KG's but they would not beat out a properly functioning Heresy & up three way models. Nor were they interned to be, each of us have our own tastes and that is what helpes make America great – having the choice.
  8. After re-reading my original post I see I left out two key word, they were “an extra” before the $20-$30
  9. There would be little if any gains with the Crites xover compared to a quality recap. The Crites is nothing more than a build based off of the OEM schematic. With that said the inductors he uses are a better quality than OEM – but the OEM rarely need replacing. So really it comes down to cost & convenience, the Crites are a plug&play deal.
  10. That would depend on your soldering skills, doing it yourself is cheaper of course. On the Quartets one of the caps is a wee bit tricking to get to, just pull one of the xovers out and look at it. On the chance you do not know – take the screws out of the terminal cup on the back - the xover is on the back of it. You should be able to look without having to disconnecting any of the internal wiring. here is a early forte II for an example, sorry no Quartet pics
  11. Good point – give your Q's a week or two (if you can) and get familiar with them One thing I did that worked for me were to tilt the speakers up a bit. Put something ~2” high (like scrap 2x4) under the front of the speakers can give you an idea if it would be worth pursuing stands.
  12. Congrats on you killer deal. And my I suggest you do the xover recap first before anything else in the speaker audio chain.
  13. PartsExpress finally got the umk-1's back in stock. Looking forward with testing both drivers & room EQ. Also opens up the door going to an active crossovers down the road.
  14. Still have the originals for both and would never let them go.
  15. Dire Straights – Brothers in Arms Michael Franks – Dragonfly Summer
  16. Thanks vulcan, got them on order now.
  17. The Quartets were the very first Klipsch I owned back ~1991. Had fallen in love with the forte II's that the store let me take home to listen. But just could not mustard up enough money for them so I got the Quartets and loved them too. In hindsight I wish I just pushed the issue through and got the forte II's anyway.
  18. I had the pair of forte II passives re coned by this shop: https://reconingspeakers.com/
  19. Have had this for ~30 years back when I worked for Baxter Health Care - Hakko model 926 esd https://www.ebay.com/b/hakko-926/bn_7024841716
  20. While not totally understanding the OP's intentions it sounds like we are heading toward a disaster waiting to happen.
  21. Even so Schu - it is still a great story
  22. I know this will be very subjective but there are many members here that have listened to a broad range of Klipsch speakers like Heresy, forte, Cornwall, LS and even Khorns just as a partial list. So with that being said there are members that can not even consider something as large as CWs let alone the larger models due to footprint limitations. So where are we going with this? Well it is a hope that some of you that have “been there done that” could reflect which of the sub 20” wide footprint models might you move down from the larger models if space became an issue. We are not necessarily talking about actual room size but rather the amount of available wall space. Any of you willing to share your thoughts?
  23. Haven't looked yet but is there a schematic out there for them? If so build your own.
