Okay, here are some real pics, including some of my @ClaudeJ1 Super Heresy crossover rebuild. The only issue that I see with the amp (for full disclosure), is that the previous owner used some pliers to either tighten or loosen the plastic knobs on the 5 way posts. I just didn't bother with it enough to take a file and smooth the little gouges in the plastic back down. They aren't bad, per se, but you can feel them when you tighten the knobs down. As far as the service goes, it was working, then one side blew a fuse. I put another one in, and it went immediately. I took it to the shop, and they ran through all the caps, resistors, etc. etc., replacing anything that was either blown or out of spec. After the repair, it was run for 24 hours straight, and then rechecked to make sure everything was still within spec. I've not had any issues with it since.

I have a nice high end 800W RMS amplifier that I was thinking about putting on eBay, but then had the thought to see if someone has a trade that I would prefer. It’s a Bryston 4B NRB (latest revision, nearly identical with the 4B ST!), that does 250W RMS into 8 ohms continuous, 400W into 4 ohms, and 800W bridged to one channel. I’ve recently had it fully serviced by a pro audio shop in Tampa that specializes in this type of equipment. The service alone was nearly $300. It’s in fantastic shape, and pushed my old 901’s at window rattling levels without any issues at all. Since then I have sold off the Bose, and don’t have a need for this currently. This amp is well known for being musical, with great bass. I would like to trade for some Heritage (or possibly pro) speakers. Heresy 1's or 2's, maybe some beater Cornwalls or La Scala's (I know I am dreaming here, but why not?). I will sell it outright, but I am more in the mood to pick up something fun in trade. In looking at the eBay sold listings, these go for right around $1,000, so we can set a trade value at that level, possibly doing cash either up or down. I'm becoming a huge fan of the K-55 drivers! What do you have? I am in Central Florida, halfway between Ocala and Tampa, but I am willing to travel most of the state to do a deal. I don't have any pictures of the actual unit yet, below are some stock images of the exact model and revision. I will replace them with pics of my own as soon as possible, even though they are identical. Below are pictures of the actual amp, 4 posts down. The nice thing about this amp is the ability to bridge without the thick wire jumpers, which are replaced by a single toggle switch. Fantastic work there! Those are absolutely beautiful. Only ferrous metals have to be kept as far from the drivers as possible. And don't even think of wearing a mechanical watch while working on speakers. I learned the hard way... Luckily enough, a cheap de-magnetizer from eBay usually takes care of these issues.

You could add a lot of that missing 3rd back in by doing the Claude "Super Heresy" upgrade on your new speakers. I am in the middle of the process myself. One cabinet completely stripped, will do the glue, sanding and priming soon, and I have updgraded the crossover myself. I am doing one speaker at a time, to be able to do an A/B comparison, one original and one upgraded. Plus, it is fun to work on a project like this. I've been doing watch rebuilds for the last few years, so it is nice to work with screws I can actually SEE.

Horn Tweeter and Horn Midrange give a percussive aspect to a rimshot or pluck of a string that other speakers cannot. 15" Ported Woofer gives plenty of thump. | eBay!

The inputs appear to be backwards as well as the squawker and tweeter. This is going to take a careful rewiring, following Claude’s schematic exactly.

If you look at the last picture I posted, there is a strange wire, completely bare, that runs under some of the negative posts. It goes the entire length of that small connector strip:

The right speaker is working correctly, 50hz up through the high end. Two issues that I see. The mids that I heard on the left speaker were simply coming out of the woofer. In order to check polarity, I pulled the back off, and made sure that the interior wires were correct, which they are not. It appears that someone was rewiring this speaker in the past, and wired the squawker and tweeter backwards from the schematic, hot to hot instead of 180 out. The wiring from the back door to the crossover, and all internal wiring is an off white casing, red stripe on one side, black the other. It has burgundy crimp connectors, and does not look to be factory to me, but this is the first time I've cracked one of these open and really looked at it. Is the wiring from the xover to the drivers factory? Here is what the crossover and wiring looks like:

I haven't used them much at all since I picked them up from the seller a month or so ago. This morning I turned on the amp that feeds them, and the midrange was almost completely gone on both speakers. After roughly 3-4 minutes, the squawker on the left side came on suddenly. The right came on another 3 minutes later. Could this be bad caps on the crossover? Or could it be that the diaphragms on both were frozen in place until I pushed enough power through them to "unstick"? Now that they are running, they sound perfectly fine. All drivers are running as they should be! Do I need to add new diaphragms for both of the K-55's to my list, since I am preparing to do the "Super Heresy" upgrade from @ClaudeJ1 ? Or do you think that this issue will go away when I replace all the caps? Thanks in advance! O

This. I found that the KG4 in our bedroom for TV sound needs to be away from side walls, and three inches from the back wall. Better bass and lower mids. We can actually hear the dialogue very clearly with this setup.

Now that made the idea click into place rather firmly. It is simply a “B” network with the squawker and tweeter being reversed.

For positioning, I used a T-square back in the day, the crossbar on the top back of the speaker, with the main arm as a pointer. It showed me exactly where the aim was...

That's odd, because I primarily use Firefox myself, and haven't seen that issue. Do the images work in IE for you? I guess that you probably don't use IE any more, since Edge has been auto inserted as the new replacement.
