  1. Update - 1st ‘airplay’ is not the same as ‘airplane’ - both are functions on my iPad and I had them confused. Of course being nearly identical terms abets said confusion but clearly it is my over abundance of digital idiocy in play. So I do now how have ‘airplay’ operational. Things are better. I do not understand why operation manuals are so user unfriendly. How hard can it be to make computer based systems user easy?
  2. I do have airplay and the marantz will accept it. But when I shift to ‘airplay’ the iPad automatically turns off the ‘Bluetooth’ which is used for other devices. So it seems to be one or the other.
  3. I am learning more (it’ll be an ongoing learning curve I’m a thinking). Apparently I can direct play using voice commands via ‘Siri’. I know I could interface an ‘alexa’ or other device for this as well. Lemme ask this. Is there a computer/cellphone with a better quality Bluetooth signal?
  4. I learned that Marantz recently brought a less costly streaming tool to market, their NA 6006. Managed to buy one for $100 less than asking. Now I need to learn how to get the most from it and I am an easily confused digital moron. I used their ‘quick start’ guide and I am streaming pandora via my iPad Pro using Bluetooth. Not real pleased with this set up. I downloaded the full manual, all 133 pages. It may as well be in hieroglyphs. 😳🤔🥺 All I have for this is the iPad and my router. I know I can subscribe to a number of services. But I’d like to use something other than the Bluetooth link........ it sounds compressed and it drops out occasionally. Tried using ‘airplay’ but that kills the Bluetooth that is used for other devices. I’d be willing to purchase additional hardware if required. So - like I am a toddler - y’know ‘abc123’ simple....... can ye help out this olde, ancient person??? Please be patient.
  5. Making beef barely soup isn’t that hard. If you want it to taste more like the Campbells beef barely soup finish it off by adding tomato paste. The tomato gives it both the appearance and the flavor of their signature soup.
  6. Hmmmm....... how was the corn chowder? You okay?
  7. Eh - the worst it will be is - paste. But we all ate paste when kids we were - so you won’t expire - - - right away. But we all gotta die sometime. We watched some off-brand cooking show on the net and decided to try one of their ‘simpler’ cobbler recipes. So we watch several times, get the recipe down ‘pat’ and for some reason ours requires 3 X longer to cook to even appear done. It’s cooling on the stove as I write........ seems a little dark around the edges - not burnt per se..... just dark. Oh well nothing ventured, nothing learned/gained/whatever. Que sera sera. Take it one bite at a time - I know I will.
  8. Love the design here too. I’d lose that faux wood in the shade. Replace that wood with stained glass using the same frame. Yeah, stained glass can be configured around corners such as this.
  9. Over the years I’ve gathered several chef knives from many manufacturers that no doubt vary in their makeup. Regardless of brand I keep them all razor sharp having learned how to sharpen blades. They live in a dedicated drawer with their blades protected. They’re cleaned, dried and steeled after each use. I use a razor strop with steel polish as the final sharpening step and routinely in maintaining their sharpness. I have sharpened knives for others who do not keep them as jealously regarded as I do...... and they all eventually go dull. These are tools. Keep them at their peak and they will remain that way. And since they’re really used for relatively light duty applications they do not have to be extremely strong. I own $20 knives that are kept as sharp as my $100 knives.
  10. Have you tried high end solid state? After $$$$$ tube rolling I went with Accuphase SS and never looked back. Upscale (Kevin Deal) loves tubes cuz he loves selling tubes.
  11. Hit the nail on the head! IMHO this is not too much different than what smokers and vaporists and druggies do to their lungs. The only real difference is that they cannot see how ugly and atrocious their lungs look like............. and ..........;... despite mountains of clear evidence...........they are ‘stupid’ enough to think that all is ‘great’ with their breathing until it isn’t. So for all of you current smokers and vapor fans ........ this is your a$$ too......only yours is on the inside.
  12. The guy in the ‘shorts n t-shirt’ brought his own insulation. In the foreground there’s a lady wearing short sleeves....... she’s the true weather trooper.
  13. It is not so much that folks resent taxation. Revenues are certainly necessary to sustain a metropolis. Sometimes it is how those funds get spent that rubs people wrong. There’s a ditch digger joke in our joke thread right now that illustrates this. Cities get sloppy and wasteful with unearned funding. Here locally a favorite peeve are the management positions. Our leadership says they have to offer salaries comparable to ‘big cities’ in order to get competent help at the management level. Then you learn that the guy they hire is someone’s buddy or relation who is not in any manner qualified for the job. Unionization, for all its positives, lays out a bloc vote that can be bought by candidates/parties, etc. Guess I am saying that citizens do not have enough control over how their taxes get applied. And from the sounds of things we all pay dearly and some feel we should be satisfied with paved roads, 911 services and public education that seems intent on getting worse.
  14. Please share....... I’d be interested to hear about this.

    Jokes?

Was cleaning the den and a bunch of books fell on my head. I only have my shelf to blame. 😏🤪🤗
  16. I used an SLI-80 for a very short time. The bass was lacking and for some reason it burned up tubes like crazy. IMHO you could do better.
  17. I believe there are discounts afforded in most states for several types of circumstances. As previously mentioned prop 13 in Cal give some protection to elders who hung on to their properties. Where I live most of the native citizens are becoming unable to afford housing or to keep housing they already own...... they just never had the opportunity to earn enough to deal with current costs.
  18. Mmmmmm - not necessarily. Last I checked states who paid the highest in educational salaries were no where near tops in actual educational performance. Of course educators will shift the blame for poor student performance back to the family’s. But educators seem to forget that our educators have been teaching for generations now - so - the educators educated the same parents who now supposedly fail their students. We have generations of poor education and everyone pointing fingers elsewhere. That said absolutely everywhere in the country will be subjected to the annual ‘woe is the teacher’ campaign for higher wages. Teachers can “do better” if they get paid more. Show me one school district where a raise in wages resulted in better educated students. I have never seen one.
  19. I do know that in my arena that property taxes can easily vary by 100%, or more..... based on location. My prior home that’s within 10 miles from where I now live had taxes over $5k annually and that was 6 years ago. One thing is certain - they’ll never go down.
  20. T’is property tax time again. This year my full tax liability was $3,323... and change. This is for a 1750 sqft sfr in a rural state. Given the enormous gov’t expense numbers tossed about these days I was wondering how much taxation others face. How much is your property tax bill this year?
  21. Once owned a quaint home in a field that was well endowed with all sorts of critters, loads of mice. There were owls that would hunt the property. It was easy pickings. But the owls dining habits quickly become obnoxious. They’d take their partially dead dinner to the chimney which served the master bedroom. The chimney had a metal flashing and we were regaled with screeching owls, screaming mice/rabbits/etc and the ‘scraping’ of owl claws on metal during all hours of darkness. The upside of your problem is your wife’s sentimentality and respect for life. Egads that is a virtue so lacking in too many folks these days. Indulge her and be happy. She indulges your speaker ‘fevers’.
  22. I hit a deer about 20 years ago. It was a buck and the vehicle was a Mazda ‘jelly bean’ mini-van. Smacked it doing 65. The damage was severe but they fixed the thing perfectly. Worse was that the van was splattered with blood. Not pretty. That was whence I lived in urban So.Cal. and quite not familiar with wildlife habits. The new Mrs who was raised in the upper Midwest has educated me. You can get ‘deer whistles’ that attach to the front of your car. We got ours at Walmart. They’re just plastic ‘thingy’s’ with sticky tape. The wife swears that they work and on one occasion I too had another deer close encounter where 2 does ready to cross the road stopped, looked back towards our approaching vehicle and waited for us to pass. So mebbe they do work? I have experienced many, many wildlife ‘’car’ adventures here in Idaho. Moose, deer, turkeys and an entire herd of elk that crossed our path late one night (the wife was out on a hospice call). We barely stopped in time to avoid contact and then we were surrounded by these frickin’ huge animals for about 10 minutes. Wild kingdom indeed.
  23. The Mrs was raised ‘rural’ and enjoyed outdoorsy hobbies a lot in her younger days. She lived near Yellowstone for many years and ‘purportedly’ did lots and lots of ‘cold’ weather activities. Nowadays she pines to go ‘camping’ and me, not-so-much. I have to remind her how much she hates the cold these days. She refuses to sit outside for morning coffee once temps drop below 50ish. So we bought a hot tub and enjoy our lakeside home from the back deck in all weather conditions knowing that warmth is mere steps away. That works for both of us 🥳😁🥳🤗.
  24. I agree with you. I’d have to believe that this study does not include listening habits adversely conditioned to a genre or an artist. It would be interesting to ask how well ‘rap’ is received by any thinking brain. Are listening preferences geographic, gender or generationally related? But y’know the 1st industry to use the data will be advertisers jamming up their newest ‘jingle’.
