  1. Square magnet K-33 is hard to beat in Heritage Klipsch. I built some Cornclones with $800 TAD drivers, hard to say they weere really much "better" overall. The K-33 were pretty optimized for horn loded usage.
  2. Talk to Bob Crites. He may have or can get something that works for a K43.
  3. Don't get too wound up about the size and shape of those old can caps. they vary, according to whatever PWK was getting a good bulk buy on. Mine have 3 much physically smaller can stacked vertically. Three 5uf wired in parallel make a 15 whether they're side by side or stacked vertically. And, see what Al said about obsolete. Those 60 year old caps are junk. Old oil filled can caps do not improve with age like a fine wine or something. If you're a discerning listener you would be amazed by the improved sound of your Khorns with a modern high quality crossover.
  4. Well, I went and looked. Although my networks are the same model as yours they're different. The middle inductor on mine is an autoformer instead of a coil. Has 4 connections which doesn't match up with the wiring diagram shown here. that wire with the funny little terminal on it probably goes to one of the screws on the back of the terminal bock, fold it down and see which one it wants. It's probably #5. The stripped or broken one probably goes to the junction at the caps, look hard to see if you can see a matching broken spot.
  5. Hi, If you don't have any luck with deciphering the schematic and wiring diagram let me know via PM. I have a pair of '60s with those crossovers but it's a little bit of a chore to get them out of the corners.
  6. It's not like the BC crossovers are expensive or anything. Buy some and try them, if you don't like the sound sell them. You won't lose much of anything and you'll know for sure.
  7. Be aware that the the "tweeter protection" is actually a pair of Zener diodes that short the pos and neg inputs together. So, it protects your tweeter by frying off your amp. Depending on the relative costs of the amp and the tweeter that might not be such a great deal.
  8. I have both with similar components, I doubt I could tell them apart in any kind of blind test in a real room. Get the Belles if you like them, they're gorgeous.
  9. >>> "Some how an extra ¾ inch was added. We must have measured to the wrong side of the ¾ inch plywood." I hate it when that happens. I do stuff like that pretty regularly. I'm blaming it on old age.
  10. I have a pair of '60 Khorns, the side grills were relived for a chair railing. Looks like thy pulled the cloth loose, carved the wood frome, put the cloth back. The tailboard is not relieved, never thought about that. Maybe they did away with the railing somewhere behind the speakers.
  11. Wow, whatta blast from the past. 8 years ago, I must be getting old. Still have the Sparkledrive CD somewhere, just saw it the other day. Hi Craig.
  12. couple hundred bucks???? look around on the floor, see if there's any zeros you may have dropped. Really, Klipschorns are dime a dozen compared to that thing, especially if it's nice.
  13. Wunsung, I have built a few sets of these for the Belles I've built. What happened to yours? Your Belles are missing the risers? What wood and finish are your Belles?
  14. Raven, You tried screwing one of those APT-50s into a K-77 horn yet? Let us know how that works out for you.
  15. Use the Crites part. It's drop in, sounds better, handles more power and matches the crossover, no question. Bob is easy to work with and has a very reasonable price on these. Congrats on your acquistion, you're going to love those things.
  16. measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe.
  17. Quite the first post there Christopher. Feel free to hang out when you can, always good to get new perspectives.
  18. after all these years fini is as sick as ever.... Don't ask what to use to darken the stain a little.
  19. I still have some of the ones we reproduced as a forum project back in 03 or 04. I could send you some of those. They were produced at a genuine Hollywood prop shop owned by a member here, Allan Songer. Let me know if you'd like look at a couple, I'll dig through and find the nicest ones left. I think I still have about 20 but several are slightly imperfect
  20. I have a little glass bottle full of pool acid. I think it's really 10% hydrochloric in water. works like a charm and goes right into the pool when I'm done.
  21. I think it depends on whether your sub is for music or for sound effects in movies. What works for one isn't necssarily the best for the other. I've learned a lot about listening to bass since my son got a double bass. He had a 1/2 size, but the new full size is much better. Technically it's a 3/4 size, but real full size hardly exist, I guess. Open E string is 41 Hz, Khorns, Bells, LS and Corns don't seem to have any trouble going there. His electronic tuner seems to think it's going there OK. Calls it E1. Heresy doesn't want to go down there. I wonder why all these guys say LS cut off at 50 or 60? I realize it's a property of the horn design but IMO none of them struggle reproducing the lowest note my sons' bass plays. Corns do sound different from the horn loaded versions down there but it's not bad different, just different.
  22. Is that a K-55 squawker? That's a 16 Ohm part, usually DC resistance runs 11-12 Ohms. Might want to double check that, compare the two. Oops, sorry, guess I was asleep the first time I read that. "selinium DX250 drivers" doesn't really look much like K-55 somehow.
  23. Yikes, 4 LS w/dedicated 100W per and a Leslie. Talk about rocking the house. Make a B3 sound like a transistor radio?
  24. No JBL 2404? I was extremely pleased with how these sounded on a pair of DBB Cornscalas.
