  1. No thanks! I worked with a guy originally from MN and he told me sometimes he would pee on his car's key hole so he could insert the key in to unlock door. (decades ago) When I retired in March 2011 our Ops manager offered me a part time position at our Detroit refinery. I told him "are you f***in crazy!"
  2. This is what ~ $500,000 will buy you: https://www.paragonsns.com/product/wilson-audio-chronosonic-xvx/ I bet Chris would appreciate this: "Like the WAMM, the goal for XVX’s time-domain accuracy was to approach the theoretical ideal, with adjustment increments in the two-millionths-of-a-second range with greater ease and simplicity."
  3. Top of the morning to ya, grasshopper! Had my coffee @ 0400. Claude pointed out something pretty valuable to me a few days ago in a post. $500,000 a pair Wilson Audio speakers are bass reflex cabs. I was really surprised.
  4. Tornado watch here until 1200. Two nasty yellow/red bands on radar.
  5. Oh yeah you got it first, Carl. I'll check my rain gauge when it stops.
  6. Serious rain and lightning right now, a gully washer. Probably 2 or 3" in an hour. Moving east headed to dtel. Its coming buddy! Surprised the power hasn't gone off yet.
  7. My SVS SB-3000 sub has a phone app to adjust everything from low pass cut off frequency and gain, to equalizer settings and DSP config. Or basic settings locally on its rear panel. But remotes are very valuable to me. All settings and adjustments are available via my newer Yamaha AVR remote. Eight committed "Scene" presets too, for diff input sources. Its owner's manual is 186 pages printed. The digital realm is freakin awesome.
  8. Listening to Sure Thing right now on Spotify premium cranked up pretty good. I like it, pretty funky. I don't hear anything like distortion, just great guitar play. Nice way to discover new music
  9. @minglewood Klipsch subs are 3 year warranty on electronics. SVS is 5 years for everything. SVS customer service is impeccable, I just was on the phone with them today, no waiting. I own two SVS subs, and Klipsch mains. I prefer sealed cab subs myself. The SVS SB12-NSD can be had for $399 new shipped: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SVS-SB12-NSD-Subwoofer/274114154485 Listen Up is an authorized SVS dealer.
  10. @Chris A Thanks for taking the time to give the detailed explanations above.

    What I Got Today!

A new SVS sub and a miniDSP umik-1. Let the REW testing begin
  12. Yes, key word being EMOTIONAL.
  13. Exactly. Let's see some actual test data. Loan/ship a single CW III and IV to @Chris A to test. Or a on line audiophile/review source/magazine. As far as trade secrets, how many manufacturers are building something similar to the CW anyway? How many home loudspeaker manufacturers today are employing horns and compression drivers? No doubt the IV is a better version, and most everybody expects it to be when they listen to a pair. But just how much better? Test data is objective, a listener's review opinion is subjective. How can this hurt Klipsch? Seems to me objective performance data like this would be a great promotional tool for the new model IV. I bet Klipsch engineers have done extensive testing III vs IV. Why wouldn't you want to actually quantify the improvements/performance data, old model vs new?
  14. The 280s are sensitive. Why don't you play/audition what you have now and see if you perceive any acoustical performance shortcomings? The powered sub will handle demands lower than 80 hz (or wherever you choose to set its crossover point within the avr settings) freeing up power in the avr itself.
  15. @Kris Angamuthu I too have an Yamaha avr, an rx-v685. Your rx-a780 is rated @ 95 wpc @ .06 THD with TWO channels driven full range, in stereo mode. It will NOT drive 5 channels simultaneously @ 95 wpc @ .06 THD. This is detailed in your unit specs, in the last pages of the owner's manual. But for dolby digital decoding like watching a bluray movie at sane audio volume levels, it will perform very well. I have yet to be disappointed with my yamaha avr. A separately powered subwoofer helps big time with LFE performance (for blu ray action movies). In this case with a powered sub you would be operating your yamaha in 5.1 mode. I use an SVS SB-3000 sub with my rig and it will seriously rock my room watching an action bluray movie, or a rock concert with LF energy present. I also had the RP-280F before I replaced them with cornwalls. 280s are excellent. Here are your unit's specs. Notice the avr output power rating is for "two channels driven" : https://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/rx-a780_u/specs.html#product-tabs
  16. That had to be one heck of a moment, 8lb on ultralight. #10 is a tiny hook. First fly rod I purchased @ a local sporting goods store, first trip I landed a 4 lb 15 oz bass on a small top water plug. She inhaled it and I watched. This was fishing out of my lake skiff with a troll motor.
  17. Amazing condition for 50 years old, and all the moving trips. I prize it to this day. Not the biggest bass in the world by any means, but the memories associated with it. I was age 10 at the time. Caught it on a purple worm fished on the bottom.
  18. Been to both of their locations over the years, the former Mid City Lanes was their first. I lived/grew up 3 blocks from Carrolton and Claiborne intersection, ages 9-18. Streetcar or bus to anywhere in the city, was a dime on my very first ride. Fishing poles and a 5 gallon bucket to the lakefront with my padna, or City Park. I caught a 5lb 4 oz bass in City Park @ age 10, got it mounted and still on my wall today, right next to my desktop. I was pretty big into bank fishing @ a young age.
  19. I'm right there with you, brother. I think its a growing up in New Orleans thing myself. Great food, great music, and great folks (better 40 years ago imo). Too much gun play today in N.O. I'm a year younger than you and I need to lose 50 lbs big time. Retired and spend too my time on my azz. Need to commit and join the local gym/club and make a change. 63 and you will be the oldest male every in ur family? My father passed away of a heart attack @ age 50, so only by the grace of God I have surpassed that! I hope you and the wife see 90
  20. Right off Paducah's website, $1300 each: https://paducahhometheater.com/products/klipsch-cornwall
  21. Read this thread < 24 hours old, Cory is has a pairs of CW3 for $2600: B stocks for $2200, cornwall III as reported by Ceptorman.
  22. Yes, from $3000 a pair to $6000 a pair. Why stop there, just recommend a credit to jubes.
  23. It was listed as a University speaker on craigslist Dallas or Houston a few weeks ago. I believe it was Dallas but not 100% sure. Also have seen listed individual University horns/compression drivers on ebay vintage.
  24. Logic and sound judgement would dictate to audition and A/B cornwall 3 with cornwall 4, if at all possible. Perhaps at Cory's (Paducah Home Theater) location. Sure the CW4 have substantial improvements but does it warrant $6000 a pair cost versus $2600 for 3s? Only the purchaser can determine this for her/his purpose after actual auditioning. Cory did have a pair of B stock IV avail @ $4600, don't see these listed anywhere any longer but lower price B stock IVs may be an option too. dwilawyer just posted a couple videos of the new Cornwall IV improvements, in case you missed this @Brenda I will post a link to them (last two posts in thread):
