  1. Congrats, you are happy and that's all that really matters. New LaScala sell today for min $3300 each. Near mint, well cared for used pair for $1400, you did well imo.
  2. I cannot answer your question directly. But I will share something with you which may help in your decision. I purchased a pair of Klipsch RF-42s about 8 years back. My idea was to use a powerful subwoofer (a Rythmik F-15) with the rf-42s for low bass reproduction, for music and home theater (movies/dvds). While the 42s were nice (twin 4.5" woofers), they lacked upper and mid bass presence and authority. Like a bass drum kick or bass guitar rhythm, and it depends on your room size. Mine at the time was large. I replaced the RF-42s in short order. My experiment didn't work and I learned from it going forward. If you want full range sound authority or if your room is not really small, no way would I limit myself to a pair of 4.5" bass transducers per speaker. Especially if you like solid bass reproduction, and/or play your music at a higher volume. Minimum for floorstanding "reference" loudspeaker is a pair of 6" woofer transducers, 8" even better. Just my opinion.
  3. Excellent pic! We had an airshow in my town about 2 months ago. Local airport, National Guard station too. Two F-35s flew demo for two days (actually 3 days, first day for practice which I saw too) , flew in from Alvin Calendar AF base each day to do show demo, did not land nor static display. Incredible aircraft! I have seen a LOT of military aircraft fly over the years, but the maneuvers and flight ability of the F-35, simply incredible! Low speed flight and maneuverability. Sets a new standard. The evolution of stealth, computer aided technology and flight control. As of today, we will not sell F-35s to anyone, not even our allies.
  4. No, alligator garfish. Its a fish with the head of an alligator. A living dinosaur. But I once did catch and release a 2.5' alligator. Beautiful specimen when young, the colors. Big garfish down here are 5-9'. Swimming in the water. alligator garfish: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alligator_gar
  5. Plus on ebay you can check their feedback/history. Past transactions and comments. Really important to check. Tells you how they conduct their business on ebay.
  6. Oh yes, they get quite a wet rush. But the Bonnet Carre opening process is slow methodical. Large wooden pins pulled one at a time in like 300 bays. So the water comes rather slowly. I lived for 35 years 5 miles from BC spillway, great place to boat, fish, 4 wheel, hike, dirt bike, camp, hunt (many years ago). Those two main waterways are from excavating dirt for the levees. I have measured depths of 40-50 feet while fishing there. Also swam and knee boarded there. But I have seen 4-6' alligator gar pulled out of there too. I caught one 5.5' once myself. Along with largemouth bass, speckled trout, and redfish all on the same day. The trout and redfish were small, but there at certain times of the year. Great place to be outdoors, but it became so popular and busy.
  7. Yes sir, it just clicked in my brain, ur username and the new house pic. Got it.
  8. More of a testament to front ports, like my beloved CWs too. Belles for your pc........now that is real authority!
  9. The weather has been down right crazy lately for the middle of the country, floods and tornadoes. Down here in south Louisiana they have opened the Bonnet Carre Spillway (in Norco) a second time this year (never happened before), and fixing to open the Morganza Spillway this weekend because of persistent flooding and high levels on the Mississippi River. Seven days ago a town battling flooding got hit by a really bad tornado after dusk. Jefferson City, MO and an EF3 tornado. https://weather.com/news/news/2019-05-23-jefferson-city-missouri-tornado Ohio got hit by tornadoes too. Lately one disaster after another. Lot of people hurtin.
  10. Shoot, one could probably pick them up for $1000 and put a little love and attention on those cabinets.
  11. I purchased a pair of Elac debut B6.2 bookshelf speakers @ half off around Christmas from amazon for my desktop computer. 6" woofer and a 1" silk dome tweeter with a front port. They sound fantastic. Pushing them with a Fosi mini amp @ 50 wpc (also from amazon). Best desktop pc stereo system I have yet to own, and I have had a few 2.1 systems including a Klipsch Pro Media rig (which ultimately failed like all the rest). That front port rocks and the imaging is perfect! It helps that the mini Fosi has treble, bass, and volume adjust knobs right up front. Highly recommend the Elac B6.2 when on sale.
  12. A $1.50 handle has some peeps seriously worried. I bet that missing XO capacitor and transformer will cost way more than $2.
  13. Mine were shipped motor freight. Klipsch knows what they are doing when they pack Heritage loudspeakers for shipment. My CWs arrived at my house in perfect condition. Ebay buyer protection policies are great. Not only do you have the seller's policies, but if they fail on any aspect, (failure to ship, damaged in shipping, not as described or pictured in listing, or item doesn't work or has an issue) ebay will step in and moderate the transaction if necessary, or make it right. You have way more buyer protection purchasing off ebay than just some business listed on the internet. It's rare to have these problems on ebay but I did once, and ebay promptly refunded me 100% when the vendor failed to make it right. Everybody on ebay has ratings, direct feedback history for both sellers and purchasers. So you do couple minutes of research and know exactly how they conduct business/transactions. The ebay community is awesome. And 95% of em do not collect sales taxes, like amazon does now (for the last 2 years). I have purchased quite a few second hand blu ray movies off ebay too, not one issue yet. Very low prices delivered to my house. They even have a vintage audio equipment section on ebay. I'm way off topic in this guy's thread. I'll stop now.
  14. Crutchfield while having excellent CS, have some of the highest equipment prices on some items. New CWiiis can be found on ebay for $3500 pair, new delivered to your home. The matte black finish SE, price for a pair. This gentleman in NV. I purchased a SE rosewood pair from him about a month ago. Flawless transaction. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Cornwall-III-Special-Edition-Matte-Black-Pair/372644664888?hash=item56c35a5638:g:A9gAAOSwpLxcuKpt Here are a pair of textured black B stock for $3000 delivered: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Cornwall-III-Floor-Standing-Speaker-Custom-Textured-Black-Finish-B-Stock/392255724463?epid=23031094469&hash=item5b54435baf:g:RKoAAOSwW75ciVqu:sc:FedExHomeDelivery!70403!US!-1
  15. Walmart sells smaller bags (8 lb) of mesquite charcoal briquettes. And apple and hickory versions too. I have used the mesquite 3x, its superb in taste to ordinary charcoal. Grilled a rib eye, 2 half pound burgers, and some mahi-mahi tuna Sunday. Delicious. And get this, the mesquite/apple/hickory is cheaper per pound than name brand regular charcoal. Propane is convenient, but can't match charcoal for taste imo. Not even close.
  16. Or listening to the guys who have opened the cab, maybe attaching a single screw drawer pull handle close to an edge and using a wide blade putty knife to pry on the hatch. Then its just one extra hole. If we keep collectively brainstorming on this, we just might come up with a way to levitate that hatch off. I got it....take all the screws out and play some low bass test tones @ a good volume and blow/dislodge that cover off! A loop of 30-100 hz test tones and let physics do its job. I have a mp3 file of sub test tones. This is a sealed bass driver cabinet, si?
  17. The big suction cup sounds like a great idea, but the rough surface could be challenging to get a good seal. Prying is an option but damage to the wood is very possible, either the cover or cab. If they use some form of putty or sealant from the factory, it will probably be pretty difficult to pry off cover without damaging the cover and cab. Let me preface I don't own this cabinet, nor have I ever attempted to open one but I do have an alternate idea. Since it is the bottom of the bass cabinet and is rarely seen, I would purchase a single sturdy pull handle attached by two wood screws. I know you are in Italy and may not have a Home Depot, but surely you have access to a hardware store. I would attach this handle about 40 mm from the edge of the access panel then use handle to open. If you cannot do it with just your arm strength, you could also pry against it (handle opening) using a extra large screwdriver or a lever of some type (crow bar or metal rod), using a block of wood to protect the cabinet where your pry bar contacts. Once you have it open, remove the handle and re-insert the 2 screws. You can use the handle on the other bass cab hatch too. When you purchase the handle, also purchase 2 extra attachment screws as they usually just come with just 2. If you are really attention oriented, you could apply as small amount of rtv silicone sealant to the screws to completely seal when re-inserting after removing handle. Hopefully I have presented my idea sufficiently here. Drill an appropriate pilot hole for the handle screws before insertion. 1/16" min (1.6 mm), but based on the diameter of the screws. Not too large on the pilot hole tho. In the end, you will have two extra screws in each access hatch, on the bottom of bass cabinet. Big deal. Link to the the handle I'm describing/proposing below. Handle could be a bit larger, but you get the idea. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Liberty-Hammercraft-3-1-2-in-89mm-Center-to-Center-Black-Front-Mount-Drawer-Pull-P93000C-BL-C5/100146770
  18. Pagenot and Rossi, what a duel to the end! Great finish/last 4 laps!
  19. 314carpenter, my sincere condolences for your loss.
  20. Amen brother! Even the Forte III with its rear firing passive radiator digs deeper than the La Scala. Several acoustic musical instruments produce sound lower than 50 hz, the piano as you mentioned, the bassoon and bass tuba also. A pipe organ can hit a bone rattling 20 hz! Don't even mention home theater.........the LFE on some blu ray movies. Live, Die, Repeat blu ray is one of the litmus tests for LFE. The opening LFE pulses will really test many subs and speakers. Leave some moaning.
  21. Just made the move into the LR. Little brother SVS SB-3000 in the background. Was just watching the "Wind River" dvd again, really good movie with some serious low frequency effects in certain scenes. The Cornwalls operated full range and the SB-3000 are a really powerful team in a digital 4.1 format, in my room. We shall see what a big ole $59 Chinese transducer and a sealed DIY cab does......

    What I Got Today!

Well by golly, that is a garage door opener up there! Is this your garage stereo? Has the family banished you to the garage? Or maybe a garage door to open the concert room to the fresh outdoor breeze. "Rocky mountain high?" Either way, you def have it goin on for sure! Three Mac stereo amps lit and a bevy of Klipsch goodness.
  23. Just applied a second coat. A 7" roller makes it such an easy job! 15 minutes: shake the can, pour, roll, and clean up. Now dry baby.......so I can carry your big azz into the LR.
  24. Here is a much better photo. After a single coat of Rustoleum flat black enamel paint applied with a 7" foam roller, and attaching feet I already had . Also installed terminals on back, internal wiring, and transducer. Fashioned a nice seal for the transducer from 3/8" wide felt weatherstripping I had in the garage too. Had the #10 sheet metal screws on the shelf. Going do some light sanding and apply a second coat of paint. The finish sheen is irregular, flat on the MDF but shiny where excess glue residue was @ seams and I had sanded. Now is the time to make it somewhat right as it now weighs roughly 75 lbs, and before I carry it into the house. Need a freakin hand truck!
  25. This thing will compete with my SVS-SB3000 sub (13" driver/800 rms watts, 2000 peak). This all started out me purchasing the 18" transducer for $59 delivered for shitz and giggles. For the price I wanted to hold that driver in my hands, maybe sit it out as a conversation piece. But then I started investigating building a cabinet for it, put together a budget sub. The 18" transducer has double the cone surface area of the 13", and is more efficient (102db @ 1 watt). But the SVS sub has massive power handling, control, and low distortion. Its just a lil fun project, I like working with my hands. I have < $500 tied up in the 18" sub including the Crown amp. A decent high power sub plate amp sells for $450 new.
