  1. My setup is simple, sounds great, was not expensive, and is easy to use.... Source = Old Macbook air from 2012, running Spotify, configured for USB output with the Yamaha MIDI driver. Running wifi only (no ethernet port). DAC = Yamaha A-S801, input via the USB Integrated Amplifier = Yamaha A-S801 Speakers = Klipsch CF3's V1 Remote control = Volume with the Yamaha remote, song selection with my Android phone running Spotify, controlling the Macbook via wifi Its not the cutting edge of 2020 audio technology but it works well for me.
  2. Sounds like a fun shootout! Also the photo makes a nice reference for how "small" the CF3's are when your significant other balks at them 🙂
  3. Pick up some of these to set the La Scala's on and try them out in several different positions to see what sounds best. https://www.harborfreight.com/18-in-x-12-in-1000-lb-capacity-hardwood-dolly-63098.html
  4. Congrats! I had to exercise extreme self control once I heard there was a second pair available since it's only a 3 hour drive away. When I bought my CF3's they came from Tacoma which is about 6-7 hours away.
  5. Something about bringing home new to you speakers.... so satisfying. Nice score!
  6. Go buy them, price is fair and the location is close. Good luck!
  7. In that room with that amp be careful not to blow the windows out! Let us know how it sounds 🙂
  8. Do the open stands affect the bass response? I've thought about making some stands but would make them out of solid wood.
  9. When I was in my early 20's I used to think along the same lines, MOAR = better!! I'd always run A+B together, etc... not sure why but it seemed to make sense with the low quality speakers I had at the time. Didn't sound that great but it was sort of loud and looked cool having a stack of speakers. I've since learned that a two channel setup of proper speakers (such as your Chorus) paired with a good amplifier will provide more than enough (in both sound output and sound quality), especially in a residential situation. Surround sound is a different story and of course multiple speakers are part of the expectation there.
  10. Just saw these pop up. https://corvallis.craigslist.org/ele/d/philomath-klipsch-la-scala-speakers-pair/7213427945.html CL corvallis > for sale > electronics - by owner post account ◀ prev ▲ next ▶ reply favorite hide ⚐ flag Posted about an hour ago print Klipsch La Scala Speakers - Pair - $2,000 (Philomath) image 3 of 6 © craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap make / manufacturer: Klipsch model name / number: La Scala I have decided to put my Klipsch La Scalas up for sale. 11. For the CF3/4 I'm thinking the amount of tilt is fairly small unless you are sitting really close. I'd start with some shims under the front to fine tune the tilt angle and once satisfied make a low profile solid stand for permanent use.
  12. Sounds like there is an issue with the amplifier. I have a Yamaha A-S801 connected to my CF3's and there is plenty of bass.
  13. Just showed these to my wife (she said no), all the sudden the CF3's currently in our living room don't look so imposing 🙂 It's all relative...
  14. Check this out as well. The recording on spotify is a better quality to listen to on, but the video is good to watch.
  15. Room size definitely plays a role in wattage requirements, meaning a bigger room will require more power to fill. In years past I used to think more speakers were better, such a 5.1 system, etc... However since I've moved to a 2 channel setup I couldn't be happier. The CF3's are more than capable when it comes to filling a room with an all encompassing sound, providing that feeling that you are "there", unable to discern where the speakers are placed with your eyes closed. Additionally, the "controlled focus" of these seems to minimize reflections within the room and really does place the detail right at your ear. Distortion is a non issue, you will experience physical pain before these start to distort. For normal listening in a smaller room these won't need high wattage. In a larger setting where you can let them really run, this is where you will find out if an amplifier has what it takes. In summary, all you will need is a solid 2 channel amp with the CF3's. A sub is a maybe, but those 10's can dig pretty deep. Enjoy!
  16. On my CF3's I was able to max out my old 65w/channel amp when the volume was up (it would trip into protection mode). Thus far on my 100w/ch amp I haven't had the same issue.
  17. Earlier in this thread I posed a link to a review from 1995 where it was measured at 94.3dB, which is below the listed spec of 100dB.
  18. Welcome to the club! My CF3's are the same color and from the same month as yours (August 1994). As for amplifier selection go with a higher wattage than you think you will need (100w+ per channel). These are not as sensitive as the specs would lead you to believe and require a decent amount of power. I'm currently running a Yamaha A-S801 and enjoy the ability to adjust the tone controls to bring out the best sound for my listening area.
  19. I've found that in my listening area I need to turn up the bass just a bit on the amplifier, especially at lower volumes. As others have said the bass output of some Klipsch speakers is not weak, but rather accurate, and that at higher volumes it can really come to life.
  20. When you are considering layout be sure to allow enough space so that the speakers can be moved out from the wall. Also allow space behind where you sit so that the back of the couch isn't against a wall. Might as well pick up the Forte III's, even if you change your mind they can easily be resold or used in another room.
  21. Check out Type o Negative - Love you to death.
  22. I'd find a standalone DAC that has a USB input.

    What I Got Today!

Picked up a used Yamaha A-S801 for my CF3's. Running the onboard DAC via USB, source is an old Macbook air. So far so good!
  24. Listening to this on the CF3's this evening while having a few cold ones. Listen all of the way through.
  25. Emailed this guy back in February about some Cornwalls that were for sale at the same time.... he said the La Scalas were installed in a wall as part of a custom installation.
