  1. Wrong. I saw a UPS guy kick a box with that sticker on it and said something to him about doing it. His response was it was OK because they pack those kind of boxes better. Real gorilla's handle the box after you drop it off.
  2. Sucks I know but the price one has to pay to ship these days and the cost has went up tremendously in the last few years.
  3. Lundahl OPT's as well? Looks like a quality build.
  4. Having a stereo system I will stick with it but I can see your point. Been digging into receiver FM stereo circuits and have found that some are nothing more than mono split into two channels and called stereo. You do get the to see a stereo light to come on fooling you to thinking you are getting a stereo broadcast sound. Not sure all receivers are built this way without digging further into receiver designs. Stereo was the best thing that happened to sellers of equipment. I can still remember when quadraphonic was all the craze. Died out to reemerge as home theater 5 way systems.
  5. Sorry for being negative but having worked at a warehouse dealing with UPS I doubt you will have any luck. Sorry. The standard cop out line UPS always takes is not properly packaged. Trucking companies are no better. Unless a company is doing a lot of biz with said trucking co. they will not pay for damages. I saw large equipment that was obviously dropped with severe damage and they would not pay unless taken to court. They know lawyer cost would be more than product. That being said good luck and I hope for your sake I am wrong.
  6. Found this gem, a sealed copy on Ebay at a great price. Silent vinyl and dynamic sound. My kind of music.
  7. I thought you had your Sweetie up and running. That is the one I was referring to. I believe you are going to like it.
  8. I do not trust the media in one d*m thing anymore whether Fox or MSNBC. Personally at my advanced years I am staying in and wearing a mask when I do go out. But I am not going to judge anyone for doing otherwise. There is too much Government and laws telling everyone what to do. Just one example, the motorcycle helmet law. Sure it should be mandatory for anyone under 21 they do not have good sense yet but making it a law for anyone over 21 you must wear one is BS. It is your head to do what you want with it. Government is intruding too much in everyone's life. I am not for events like Sturgis but neither am I against it. Our lawmakers have gotten us in so much debt the only way we will ever get out is to bankrupt the country one day. There is no company that could survive with the management we have in congress. It really just does not make any sense at all to me. If they had the best interest of the country they would never had let us get into so much debt. They only cared for themselves and their special interest. Go in office almost broke and come out extremely rich. How does that happen? I feel for my Grand kids.
  9. I found much the same in the better SS amplifiers. The differences have narrowed. The thing is though that when talking less than $1000 in an amp a tube amplifier is a better bargain. You can purchase one of the SE Boyuu A10's for around $400 and from all what I have read if will be better sounding with our horns than anything SS in it's price range. It is only when you get into the what I call expensive SS amplifiers when the sound becomes as good as a $1000. tube amplifier. Exceptions to every rule and my opinion. I certainly have not heard all the amplifiers out there. Transistors have been trying to sound as good as tubes since they were invented.
  10. Tell members about how they sound to you.
  11. I think the big selling factor was the power in a receiver. At that time I was into separates and and not receivers. Still am.
  12. The amplifier was very well respected way back when and very desirable for many audiophiles that could not afford them at that time. Nostalgia is probably one thing driving up the price and not necessarily the performance compared to modern designed amplifiers. Do not get me wrong, I would love to have one but not at the price they are selling for now. Supply and demand determines price and many that could not afford it when introduced can now. I just watched a video last week about the restoration of the SX1250. For those that are interested in those kind of things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjTjAwaopXk&ab_channel=xraytonyb Maybe I can find one at a flea market one day for $50 but I doubt it. Probably not a lot sold in my area in the day. The prices on Ebay are very similar to price asked above.
  13. Not me. Someone can ask any price the want for anything but it does not mean they will get it.
  14. You can just replace the voice coil itself without reconing the speaker. I recently saw a guy on youtube do it. Uncle Doug. Search his videos on how if you like. In the USA I use Parts Express. You will want pro speakers if you decide to just replace the entire speaker. You want a speaker with high efficiency to go with the horn. Ten inch I think. https://www.parts-express.com/cat/pro-woofers-subwoofers-midrange-speakers/31?N=22164+4294967118+4294965083&Ne=10166&Nrs=collection()%2Frecord[endeca%3Amatches(.%2C"P_PortalID"%2C"1")+and+endeca%3Amatches(.%2C"P_Searchable"%2C"1")]&PortalID=1
  15. Sounds like you voice coils are rubbing. The voice coils themselves can be replaced. Do some googling and youtube'ing for info.
  16. My "Little Sweetie" 6Y6 amplifier designed by our own Maynard. Not much to look at but such a sweet sound. I used a toroid transformer and made mine stereo instead of mono. I found the design on diyaudio.
  17. Sweat vocals and wide soundstage I bet.
  18. Hey Fullrange, give some of these NOS Russian tubes a try in your amplifier 6N3C. They are the Russian designation for the 6L6, same thing but made when tubes ruled, most to military standards. If you like the 6L6 sound you will like these tubes and they can be purchased on Ebay for give away prices, for what you get. I just bought 4 of them from a USA seller for $25 on Ebay. On Ebay just search for 6L6 and in some descriptions you will find they are 6N3C's or just search for 6N3C. I much prefer NOS tubes over the current productions. By the way nice looking tube gear.
  19. My kind of guy. Keep the pictures coming. Nice to see newbies posting pictures.
  20. I would love to see more pictures of your tube amplifiers. To me they can be a work of art and some of them really catch your eye when they are on. I only have a couple of my builds worthy of posting and members have already seen them so I will not post another picture. The rest of my builds are built around a plain Bud box or Hammond. I have always been more interested in the sound rather than the appearance but I love looking at really nice retail and diy builds. Very few SS amplifiers can really catch your eye like a tube amplifier does. I look forward to seeing more. The last pictures here of the Dennis Had and Seti's build look outstanding.
  21. Really nice professional looking build. I have always wanted to hear an amplifier using an interstage transformer instead of capacitor coupling but those things are expensive. As you may have guessed I am a cheap diy'er. A build to be very proud of!
  22. I have never heard a 2A3 but I have considered building one. I believe it was the same George Anderson of Tubelab that said the 2A3 is sound wise two 45 tubes in one envelope. Again no experience with 2A3 but I have heard many good things about the SE 2A3 amplifier. Maybe one day.
  23. I think these days studios are using the small what is called monitor speakers? Maybe they work as good as the big horns of yesterday but I am a skeptic.
  24. Too old to remember. Only remember when studios favored horn speakers, Altec Lansing being one of the more popular ones. Probably read from the many audio rags I read many years ago when they were popular. Remember Stereo Review where all the reviews were favorable and depended on test more than listening? Fell in that trap myself when less informed. Bought an expensive pre amplifier with spectacular distortion numbers when tested. Lower than the test equipment being used. Found out many years later that specs do not tell the whole story. In reality it was centered around some not so good op-amps, but tested better than other pres that were reviewed.
