  1. There is nothing wrong with three db more output, every three db more is double the volume. Funny how that works Peace, Josh
  2. My gawd, those look aweful Let us know what becomes of them Peace, Josh
  3. Sarge, From what I've read putting a passive radiator on a heresy wouldn't work to well. The woofer in the heresy is designed to be used in a sealed box, putting a passive radiator on one is basically porting the cabinet. I believe a passive radiator acts like a port except it works effectively over a wider frequency range than a port due to the effect of a port being tuned to a specific range. The airtight cabinet is meant to provide a sort of pillow of air behind the woofer which keeps it from over extending(excursing?) itself or bottoming out. Different woofer drivers may work better if you don't mind changing the heritage sound. I've thought it might be cool to have a heresy on top of a modified lascala bass bin, the bass bin would have a larger internal box volume (and maybe be ported?) as was described in one of dennis'(DJK) posts a long time ago. You would then have a four way system that just might sound nice. Just some thoughts, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Peace, Josh
  4. "Whay is it they say?" Well "they" say alot of things but I know this, Even a stopped pig finds pearls twice a day. Somehow that doesn't sound right, I might have got it wrong. Seriously though, I think it is about listening to music on what sounds good to you. Are there better, more expensive systems than mine? YES(duh). Do their owners get more enjoyment out of them than I do with my stereo? I think not. I used to be the happiest kid alive because I could listen to the local college radio station on my old boombox with a cheap pair of panasonic headphones. Now I have a much nicer stereo(108Db, no problem) and I almost think I had more fun back in my boombox days, how I miss the blissful days of my youth(lol, i'm 21). Still the upgrade road is wide open, one of these days I may even discover vinyl Peace, Josh
  5. Perhaps a Gibson Songbird or Birdland. Two rather different guitars if I remember corectly. Songbird: A dreadnought style Acoustic guitar, much the same shape as a Martin D-28, these had a large pickguard with a bright engraved painted picture of a "songbird". The body of this guitar propably had rosewood(brazilian?) or mahogany(honduran?) back and sides with a spruce top. Birdland: A semi-hollow body electric guitar with single cutaway on the lower(treble) side of the fretboard, often used by jazz guitarists and considered a true classic. I think these were made with carved maple back and sides and a spruce(or maple?) top. This is off of the top of my head so I may be wrong about the descriptions of these guitars. FWIW I think John Cephas is an incredible guitar player, some really nice acoustic blues on an album with the harp(harmonica) player Phil Wiggins. He also happens to play Taylor guitars which are some of my personal favorites. Peace, Josh
  6. Justin, Mine is in "great condition" all of the functions and display lamps work "perfect". With shipping it was $114 I think. It should come at the end of this week or early next week. I also used the buy it now price because I got tired of missing out on stuff that was bid out of my range when I could of had it for so much cheaper. Sure I'll be glad to put it up against some of the SET crowd, just like I drag race in my stock ford ranger Seriously though these are suposed to be really nice little amps and rather inexpensive(great for college eh?) Peace, Josh
  7. If this is about the problem of not being able to post, I was able to post a new topic earlier but I don't remember what time it was. Peace, Josh
  8. Justin, Did you get your HK430 off of ebay? I was just wondering because I just got one myself for my heresies and I was hoping I did not outbid anyone on the forum. It will be interesting to compare thoughts since it looks like we'll have some of the same gear Peace, Josh
  9. I was drooling until I saw the price, That kinda stuff is going to be out of my budget even once I can afford it if ya know what I mean. Peace, Josh
  10. Thanks for the info guys, I've picked up a pair of the smaller ones off of ebay. I'm planning on putting them on my desk and using them with my computer(no promedias for me thank you very much). I'll guess I'll find out what they sound like when they get here, they were only about $50 and shipping wasn't bad either. If they are really awful once they show up I guess I'll take them to a pawn shop or maybe I'll track down some of you guys who live here in orlando and leave them on your porch in the middle of the night Peace, Josh
  11. Sounds awesome, those older JBL speakers can amount to some really good listening. Peace, Josh
  12. Avatar??? I thought that was you Mike Peace, Josh
  13. Jim, I know exactly what you are talking about. The other day I went to watch a movie and it was about twenty minutes into it before I realized that my reciever was still in stereo mode and not surround. My heresies have such great stereo imaging that I thought that I was hearing my center channel. I think it could work even better if you had the same source being sent to both speakers as you do. I guess I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it. For now though my Synergy series SC1 seems to do fine, and lol it is wider than my 14" toshiba tv. Peace, Josh
  14. Yeah, and I think Harmon Kardon owns both of them. Peace, Josh
  15. Nice vinyl, Ashkenazy is one of my favorite pianists. He did a set of Beethoven pieces that are really great. Have fun showing off your system Peace, Josh
  16. My heresies from '81 do not ring in the midrange or have a tin can sound to them at all. Even though I have a lowly yamaha reciever the heresies sound quite good. For the time being I am quite happy with the way they sound and plan to upgrade amps(likely in the distant future) and source equipment before trying any mods on these babies. I am planning on building stands for them though, any thoughts on designs for this sort of thing? They already have the short riser on the bottom which I will try to incorporate into my plans. Peace, Josh
  17. HDBRbuilder, What seems to be a good price on the HK430? I've seen these go on ebay for around 90 to 100 bucks. Is that a decent price for these things? My dad has an old JVC that sounds pretty good but one channel of the amp no longer works although the preamp works all the way through. I've been thinking about geting something along these lines for my little brother, since I moved out with my stereo all he's got is my old boombox and I feel sorry for the little guy. Peace, Josh
  18. I just wondered if anybody has some experience with Sansui speakers and what they sound like?? A friend of mine has some with a 12" woofer and some assortment of mids and tweeters but I havn't gotten a good chance to listen to them. I know maxg has some of the larger ones but I'm also interested in the smaller ones, with an 8" woofer or so. I'm just curious as to how they sound compared to Klipsch or older JBL. Thanks for any thoughts you guys might have. Peace, Josh

    Finally

I was having trouble, My hands were getting shaky, I wasn't eating well Yeah I'm glad the board is back up. To compensate I had to go to Best Buy and check out speakers. All the speakers at Best Buy dissapointed me a little, even the more expensive JBL "studio series" didn't sound that great (although no that bad either)to me which is kinda sad becuase I really like JBL's older stuff. Oh well, today is a new day and the forum is up and running so I'll not dwell on unpleasent things. Peace, Josh
  20. Carvins actually makes some nice stage speakers, but as was pointed out not really for home use. Peace, Josh
  21. Oh I don't know about that, they sound pretty good as they are. Still I suppose everything could have room for improvements. Peace, Josh
  22. Deang, I honestly think that the heresy has plenty of bass. I think that where it appears to be lacking is mainly at lower listening levels. I bought Star Wars Episode II the other day and I must say I was really impressed with the bass output of the heresy. The section where Obi-Wan chases Jango Fett through the asteroid belt is amazing. Compared with my JBL's the bass on the JBL's sounds a liitle rounder and fatter at low volumes, where the heresy starts to shine is at louder volumes. Honestly though the only heritage series I've heard were Heresies and LaScalas, and the LaScalas not for an extended period. Still I think that as you said you gain experience by buying these and listening to them. I think that Mobile is maybe being a little hard on them, obviously they are not going to equal a much larger speaker, a cornwall is just plain bigger and a LaScala and Khorn bigger still. You have to take the heresy for what it is, a very nice small-mid sized speaker. Oh well just my two cents. Those are some really nice and clean looking speakers that you got. btw, I emailed laurie trying to explain the difference between MDF and Birch Plywood. Peace, Josh
  23. artto, How would this be any different then having a center channel speaker with two drivers for the midbass? Just idle curiosity on my part as I barely have room for the speakers I have Peace, Josh
  24. Thanks for the heads up on that one. I've got WinXP Pro so I should be ok, according to microsofts web site this security hole does not affect XP. Peace, Josh
