  1. Certainly things to keep in mind. The crossover is the only thing really left in question, and an area where I have very little knowledge. -Josh
  2. Glad you like it. I'll have to drop by and hear it sometime.
  3. I was thinking of you when I saw the thread title. How many pieces is it that you used in each cable? I remember them being massive.
  4. hehehe, That is amazing. I'm not impressed though. For that price I'd expect the wires to be hand soldered to the teeth in the connector. Once again, I'm thinking I'm in the wrong business. I've made enough standard cat-5 patch cables at work over the years, I should have enough practice to make some of those pricey ones. [] I do use some AR "twisted pair" RCA cables for my turntable though. they were cheap open box items at best buy and seem alright.
  5. It never bothered me...bothered me...bothered me...bothered me... His head twitches when he does that.
  6. Iron Maiden hasn't stopped touring or releasing albums for any significant amount of time. Perhaps a different band would have better illustrated your cold storage analogy. But what do I know, I even think they sound good through Moondogs and LS []
  7. well, some APT-150's are on their way. Now we've just got to figure out how much to pad it down to make it work in a Cownwall II setup. -Josh
  8. If it is a currupt windows system file then it should be rather easy. I've had a number of computers come into my office(happens to be Marvel's office as well) this past year that were doing similar things. It hasn't been as common for them to reboot as it is for them to display an error message about a file being corrupt, although I have seen it that way. If you have a windows XP CD you would just boot to the CD, either by setting it to boot to CD first in the BIOS or by hitting one of the function keys to bring up the one time boot menu (usually F10 or F12) while the computer is starting before it gets to the loading windows part. Once it loads from the CD it should ask you whether you want to install windows or try and repair windows using the recovery console. If you hit R to get to the recovery console it should load into a DOS type command line. You can type CHKDSK /R (check disk / repair) to check the hard disk for errors/corrupt files and then it will automatically try to repair/replace the damaged system files. This will check the entire disk for errors but obviously only the windows system files can be automatically replaced, sometimes orphaned or damaged files such as pictures and documents can be recovered but that is not all that common. It sounds like your tech guy has a disk that should work for you though. Hope you get it all figured out. Peace, Josh
  9. Those look great. I just finished a set of pine shelves I built in that Cherry Polyshades finish and I can vouch for it being a pain in the rear to apply evenly. After building up a couple of coats it kinda evens out though. They really do look great though and kind of remind me of the pic on the klipsch site when you search for cornwall.
  10. So Marvel and I are going to build some cornwall type things. So far we have some K57's on K601 horns and some K33's and I'd like to use some (eminence)APT-50's for the tweeters. I figured since we'd be building these ourselves we didn't have to stick with a K-77 sized tweeter and there are some cheap plastic horns that we could mount the APT-50's on. Anybody have any experience with these horns from Dayton? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=270-314 Selenium has a Bi-radial horn for cheap but it's only listed as having a 60x40 coverage. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-308 Or perhaps I should just get the APT-150. Ant thoughts on the 100x50 horn design on this one? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=290-534&FTR=apt-150&CFID=1134033&CFTOKEN=90922791 The APT-150 would be the same price(roughly) as getting the APT-50 by itself and then getting the 1 3/8" adapter and one of those horns. Please enlighten. Thanks, Josh
  11. You could also download a free Frequency generator program onto a computer and use that. It would allow you to stay on one particular frequency to figure out where the noise was coming from.
  12. I had a question about this, I did this with my K77's on my heresy's a while back but I didn't rebuild the driver or anything. I just popped it apart, mounted the horn on the front of the baffle, removed a little wood inside the cab so the magnet assembly would go back on and bolted it back together. I've got some of Bob Crites CT-125's in there now, what is the likelyhood of the tweeter breaking if I try and pop it apart and reinstall it in another speaker? /threadjack. Those La Scala's look absolutely gorgeous. Where do you get your paper backed veneer from? I've got an upcoming Cornwall(sort of clone) project and I just may decide that I NEED some beautiful veneer. Sorry if you've already said about the veneer, I'll go look again. Peace, Josh
  13. I prefer my FAT (Free Air Tension)method. The speakers and amplifier are positioned such that the only thing the cables touch are the connectors on the amp and speaker. The speakers are far enough from the amp that the speaker wires are held up off the ground by their own tension. By changing the distance from the speakers to the amp it changes the arc of the cable which allows me to tune the dynamic range/volume response(like boosting a waveform) that is output from the speakers. All my stereo gear is SS but I have done a bit of tube rolling in my tube guitar amps. It's amazing how different tubes of the same type can sound. My current preamp tubes of choice in my Mesa/Boogie MKIII (hand wired booteek amp class A 15w or Class AB 70w ) are vintage RCA blackplate 12ax7's. -Josh
  14. Taming the vibrations from a plywood cabinet can certainly help to clear up the low midrange. I added a 3/4" piece of MDF to the back of my Heresy's, same size as the back panel with screw holes matching up so I just used longer screws. Between the MDF and the original back I added some strips of that foam tape window seal stuff. It really helped to eliminate reflections off the back wall and made the sound cleaner at high volumes. -josh
  15. I just picked up a a cheap Kenwood TT from a guy selling some Tangent 10's Lo and Behold it has a linear tone arm. [:|]
  16. That oil isn't always free anymore. There was a piece on the radio a few weeks ago about how many restaurants have contracts with companies to remove the used oil and fat, but some people are stealing it to sell, sometimes fleeing and leaving an oily trail out of the lot when they get spotted and yank out the drain hose before fleeing the scene. I should have said that He is the service for those resturants.
  17. The Y adapter pictured above also is not likely to fit in the recessed jack cup found on most strats.
  18. I know a guy named Kent down in Alabama that makes a pretty mean 'shine. Maybe I'll ask him how much it could go for.
  19. Heather and I wandered by and caught a few songs from the Mike Farris Band. We weren't that enthralled by the music so we moved on. I'm still dissapointed they no longer use HIP's out in the park.
  20. I used to attend St. Joseph's over on the east side of Orlando. They have a nice sounding organ(I remember it sounding nice anyways). some pics
  21. Ease into Sumer ? Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Arabia
  22. Ahhh, The madness continues. Last night we had some baked salmon slathered in the green sauce. [] Let's see, what else can I put this stuff on. Maybe my banana and corn flakes for breakfast []
