  1. leok, The album cover on the front of the pile in the closup of the moondogs looks very familiar but I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps you could enlighten me. I want to say that it looks like the Paul Clark and Friends album but I could be wrong. I may just be imagining things but I swear I've seen that before. Peace, Josh
  2. If you are going to be using a computer for the front end of this setup it is nice to have a soundcard with a digital output(sb-live etc.) When I went from using the 1/8" miniplug analog to using the digital out the level of background noise dropped considerably. Peace, Josh
  3. SPL = Sound Pressure Level. You can buy a spl meter at radioshack for about $40. This will give you specific readings in dB(decibel) so you can know how loud you are playing. Peace, Josh
  4. I usually listen at around 90dB average if I am just sitting there listening to music. Once the volume gets up to around 100db it starts to get a little too bright and snappy to be as enjoyable. Still I think it depends on the type of sound and the quality of equipment. My mom used to blast gregorian chant cd's on sunday mornings, I would go into our living room and it was so loud I could not hear people in the kitchen yelling at me that breakfast was getting cold. The sound of the chant however was not harsh but very rich. I make it a point to take earplugs or cotton balls along if I'm going to a concert or a club. In a typical club sound levels near the speakers are often well over 120dB. 120dB is considered the normal volume at which hearing damage starts. Basically if you listen for any extended amount of time at around 120dB or higher you WILL have hearing damage. At 140dB hearing damage happens almost instantly, the amount of damage depends on the duration of the sound. As your hearing is damaged you lose the ability to hear high as well as low frequencies althought it's often easier to notice the lack of treble first. Protect those ears, they are the only ones you've got Peace, Josh
  5. What size drivers do those JBL bass cabinets have?? It sounds like you both got a good deal on them. One of the best "bang for the buck" deals that I had is my heresies. $300.01 I got them off of ebay. I was nearly outbid during the last minute but I managed to come back and win by 1 cent It would seem the poor fool put his maximum bid at $300.00 A friend of my dads just gave him a nice pair of JBL L56 speakers. Apperently the grills are a little messed up but other then that they are near perfect. Peace, Josh
  6. Nice gear! Nice pad too btw. Does the speaker wire run over or under the french doors?? Peace, Josh
  7. I'm glad to see you are feeling a little better. You are still in my thoughts and prayers. Get some good rest. I look forward to your return. Peace, Josh
  8. I think that coating a record in armorall would seriously mess with the sound. It seems to me that since armorall is basically a coating of silicone you would be coating over the grooves in the record thus greatly inhibiting the stylus from reading the original sound. Peace, Josh
  9. Jim, Think happy thoughts, you already have a pair of khorns(and that is something to be happy about). DJK, LOL, that is too funny. I had forgotton what the 901's looked like so I had to go to the bose website and look the up. HAHA, now I get it Peace, Josh
  10. I don't know any of the specifics of the model numbers but Eminence did manufacture a number of the drivers that klipsch used over the years. Your speakers are propably fine although you might try calling customer support at klipsch and see what they know about the model numbers. Peace, Josh
  11. Guiness is some fine stuff. I have a yamaha HTR-5540. The yamaha has been excellent for HT use but at louder volumes on my heresies it sounds a tad on the harsh side of things. I have been extremely happy with it for movies it's just not the greatest for two channel stuff. 75 watts per channel. DTS. DD5.1 Pro Logic I and II All the typical stuff. $300 at best buy Peace, Josh
  12. What is the sensitivity rating on the RF3 II? The Harmon/Kardon HK-430 from the seventies only puts out around 25watts and gets plenty loud on a pair of Heresies. I believe the Heresies are rated at 96dB 1w 1m. Peace, Josh
  13. LOL. My heresies came off of ebay and they were both in the SAME box with an ocean of packing peanuts. The heresies were just sort of floating around, awash in the peanuts as it were with a piece of cardboard between them. This was one big clumsy box. Hope you find something that works. Peace, Josh
  14. Thanks John, I worked on this one while I was on break between classes this afternoon. It took me a while but I finally came up with 273.78 watts. I had been forgetting that I needed to know I before I could figure the P. btw, these figures were from a pdf for the JBL 2025H 12" woofer. Peace, Josh
  15. I was just wondering if someone could let me know the formula for figuring wattage if the impedence and voltage are known. For instance a speaker is rated at an impedence of 8 ohms and its power handling is given as 46.8 volts. What would the Power handling translate to in watts?? If anyone of you electical engineer types happens to know how to do this that would be great. I thought I had a book lying around that covered this type of stuff but I don't seem to have the book with me Peace, Josh
  16. I use Rich text. The only thing I don't like about rich text mode is that my delete key doesn't work. Other than that it it has it's obvious benefits. Peace, Josh
  17. I don't think there is anything really cool about pornography. Peace, Josh
  18. "It's not a motorcycle baby, it's a chopper" Peace, Josh
  19. DJK posted the following a while back. ----------------------------------- A K33 is flat(in room)to 18.6hz in this design: Sealed rear chamber=9.2cu ft, vented front chamber=2.5cu ft, vent=8" dia by 14.75" long, F3(anechoic)=25hz~100hz, SPL=95dB, suggested dimensions (all inside measurements) :45"H X 16.5"W X 28.5"D This is the height and depth of a typical big screen TV and because of the narrow width does not look too bad. ----------------------------------- Peace, Josh
  20. At least its the passive radiator on the back. Still, what a bummer. I hope you can get it fixed. Peace, Josh
  21. ---------------- On 2/5/2003 10:04:49 AM hwatkins wrote: Cons - 1. I have a drop in SPL (more than my prefered -3db from the tuning point) that starts just below the transition to the sub. While the final version is much better than the test, I would prefer the speaker go to around 50hz before the -3db (this would closely match the Heresy). I am probably constrained by my dedication to the size of the box and have to live with the compromise - there is only so much you can expect from 6.5 inch woofers. ---------------- A congratulations on the speaker turning out so well. As far as I can tell with my spl meter and a test tone cd my 1981 heresies are fine to about 65Hz but by 60Hz they are beginning to roll off. I'm not sure if this is the -3dB point or not but I can tell they are not as solid under 60Hz. My little JBL L46 however go much closer to 45Hz, they just don't have the midrange and tweet that the klipsh do. Peace, Josh
  22. On my yamaha reciever I hit 110 dB on episode 2 with no subwoofer. The yammy was set at -24. Sheesh, that was plenty loud enough for me. btw, when I saw The Two Towers on opening night I took my spl meter with me and the level topped out(in the front row lined up with the sub) at about 97 dB. This was in the large DTS THX theater at downtown Disney. The film itself however was in DTS but was not mastered using the THX standards. Peace, Josh
  23. Very nice. I think it's cool not so much that you are listening to klipsch again so much as as that you have yet again upped your sound quality. I find nothing wrong with the use of sansewage(oops, slip of the tungue) as your main speakers. Peace, Josh
