  1. Hooked up to some amplifiers I suppose the horn speakers can be fatigueing after awhile. However to say that the reference series horn WILL cause ear fatigue seems to me to be a bit of a broad generality on the part of the salesperson. Peace, Josh

It may be impossible to predict how much and at what frequency. Another matter is that the screen degrades the directionality of the treble horn, and broadens it out. Therefore movie theater horns are designed with a slightly narrower pattern than desired. Gil ---------------- Also remember that movie sountracks on film usually have everything above 15kHz rolled off as part of the dolby noise reduction so you don't tend to have exceedingly crisp treble in a theater. 3. I personally haven't a clue when it comes to subwoofers but I believe a number of people on here recomend the Paradigm PW-2200. Although I have no idea what one of those costs. Just what I've heard is that it is a great deal for canadians. Peace, Josh
  4. Use A Transistor Go to Jail It's The Law LOL. Peace, Josh
  5. Bummer dude, The price is for a single unit. http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_browse/product_detail.asp?urlMaterialNumber=K2S9800DG Peace, Josh
  6. Tony, Check out all the other goodies JBL still sells in japan. http://www.harman-japan.co.jp/products/jbl_cons/jblcindx.htm All we get are the JBL's in bestbuy Peace, Josh
  7. LOL, the ice machine. Whats a pop and a hiss. At a live performance you have all sorts of noise and distractions, people talking, dude spillin beer on me etc. m00n, Yes they do still make records. I just bought the Impulse records rerelease of Coltrane Live at the Village Vanguard Again. I haven't listened to much Coltrane before and it's going to take a little getting used to. Kinda like the first time I had black coffee, a little strong at first but lots of potential for enjoyment. A number of newer bands on indie labels release albums on vinyl, although I think a number of them do it for its sub culture cool factor rather then the sound quality. CD's are just not capable of reproducing the high freq's as well as a good vinyl setup. Due to the fact that all CD's are a 44.1kHz sample rate the highest freq they can hold is 22.05kHz and this is only as a triangle wave. 22.05kHz is obviously out of the range of human hearing but harmonics in the higher freq's effect the sound of those that we can hear. Whats worse is the triangle wave distortion can begin occuring as low as 17kHz, a freq which I can still hear quite easily. Here is a pic of what this looks like, http://bellsouthpwp.net/I/n/Invidiosulus/images/gallery/freq.jpg This is why DVD audio and SACD sound better, they have higher sample rates and thus elimenate most if not all of the distortion in the audible range. Btw, I do listen to CD's a whole lot so I'm not really bashing them, just trying to be factual about how they work. I guess I am kinda rambling but this is a subject I'm kinda interested in. Peace, Josh
  8. Yeah, Q-man is right. I thought it was warm like it was yesterday but then I went outside, brrrrr. It's not really what I would call cold, but for central florida it's gonna be downright chilly tonight. It makes me wish I had some of those hearth warming tubes blissfully pouring out heart warming tunes. Oh well, no use complaining. Peace, Josh
  9. I have never seen a pair of these in real life but they are supposed to be excellent speakers. http://membres.lycos.fr/hartsfield/indexanglaisexplorer.html The cabinet design is much more complex than the the khorn by the looks of it. Peace, Josh
  10. Robb, A pool party sounds like a good idea. LOL klipsch on the balcony above the pool, a big screen tv showing the superbowl. All the warm weather here is nice during the winter but the summer months make up for it. It gets so hot and humid down here it feels like you are moving under water LOL. Last night some friends of mine and I watched the Bourne Identity(good movie btw). After the movie about 1 in the morning we sat out on the porch and finished off some pizza and beer. It was nice and peaceful and cool outside. The problem when it does get cold down here is some of the apartments are really poorly insulated. My buddies apt cools off really fast when it gets chilly outside, I've seen cardboard boxes with a better insulation factor. My apartment however seems to be just fine as the walls are rather thick which makes them practically soundproofed as well. I can blast my stereo at over 100dB and my neighbors can't hear it. Hehe, and with all my computers and stereo gear running all the time my apt stays pretty warm without use of the heater. If I had tubes I would propably have to run the AC all year round. Try and stay warm guys, Music warms the heart and soul. Peace, Josh
  11. This brings tears to my eyes. It also scares me to think of something like that happening to me. Good thing I have renters insurance. Peace, Josh
  12. Hey m00n, I wonder how long before those guys get some reference speaker Honestly though I think that it is not so likely to go the other way Peace, Josh
  13. Ahh, Nothing like tales of the frozen north to make me appreciate this florida weather. 73°F and sunny. I lived outside of madison wisconsin for the first part of my life and I miss some of the weather up there but not all of it Peace, Josh
  14. I get the same kind of remarks from the instructors at my college, many of whom are audio engineers who have worked in the business for some time. One of my favorite stories though is one where my mom and younger brother were talking to the conductor of the chattanooga TN. symphony philharmonic, maestro Robert Bernhardt. The subject came around to music and recording as opposed to live music in the concert hall. Bob Bernhardt said something to the effect of "the problem with recordings is most people listen to them on 2" plastic tweeters". My mom said "well, we have more than 2 inch tweeters for speakers". At this point the maestro looked excited and said "what do you have? Klipsch??". It just goes to show how many people really respect the klipsch sound. Peace, Josh
  15. Those vmps sound really nice if I remember right. Peace, Josh
  16. Well let's see, '' That was 12 right there. btw, talk about thread hijacking lol. Peace, Josh Hehe, edited once, now we will see three?
  17. I have always thought that neutrality is rather subjective not to mention hard to track down at best. As was mentioned we don't live in a world where music goes straight from moving soundwaves to recorded media. How then can we know whether or not a given system is neutral or provides it's own coloration. It seems to me that the only way to tell if a system was accurate or neutral in a 100% complete manner would be to do an A/B comparison of live music and a recorded copy of that which you just heard, this is of course for the most part impossible. I decided for my own system that I would only ugrade or change things out if my ears noticed something that seemed out of place. For now I am happy with the sound of my system but I'm sure there are numerous upgrades for me along the way. I guess maybe I'm rambling so I'll quit before I make a fool out of myself(too late for that I'm sure). Peace, Josh
  18. Welcome back maxg. It's good to see you are experimenting with speaker placement over there howeverlooking through your post I tried to figure out which speakers you were using. Whether you are using the heresies or the sansui I could not tell. I moved my heresies out from yhe wall about a foot and a half because they were actually getting to much help from the walls and the bass was a liitle on the muddy side. That stinks to hear about the vinyl situation, fortunately for my poor budget prices in my area of the states are still pretty mediocre. If they were cheaper all my money would be spent on vinyl and I would not eat I'm sure. Peace, Josh
  19. I have heard some newer bands recordings on vinyl and I think that as far as slam and speed goes they don't really give up anything to the CD crowd. Two albums I have been listening to lately are Less than Jake "goodbye blue and white" and Blonde Redhead "Melody of certain damaged lemons". The blonde redhead album is on the electronica side of things and I think exibits some very "precise" attack and detail. I also can't get over how good cymbals sound on vinyl, they are(imho)so much more defined then on CD. Oh well, just some thoughts of mine. Peace, Josh
  20. Oh dear, I think HornEd has created a type mangling monster Peace, Josh
  21. Yeah m00n, your arm looks like it has a lock picking set in it After being sick last week I'm kinda taking an unwanted vacation. I missed so much of my classes I'm going to have to restart them in february. Fortunately my school is on a monthly admission schedule so its not much of a problem. However that means all my friends will graduate a month ahead of me and my housing loan will be a month off. Oh well, maybe I'll finely be able to update my website. Peace, Josh
  22. Doh, I went back andpoked around at the settings with my bass amp hooked up to the sub out. It looks like I do get output if I set the sub to "both" and my mains to "large". What would suck about this is that the sub is getting everything under 90Hz while my mains still hit down into the lower 60s. This would give me a nasty hump in the 70-80Hz range if I didn't have a subwoofer with a crossover setting. As it is I have NO sub so it is a moot point. I just leave my heresies set to large and I can shake the floor(6" concrete) of my apartment with 110dB in episode II. Peace, Josh
