  1. BGE spokesman yesterday said that many will be without power even into next Friday. Over half our church congregation is without power. I live in a neighborhood where powerlines are underground so we were spared. Think of all those in this area who telecommute. It's going to be a long week for them.
  2. in-wall is pretty invasive especially if you want to upgrade later. Sounds like you don't have any sort of entertainment unit. Have you tried the center BELOW the TV? In-wall could also disturb the source plane of your soundtrack if you use your towers.
  3. take a look at what else the high bidder has bought. i.e., what is our competition? (I'm crackin' up here!) http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=tb-ta http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=963&item=2840144936
  4. I acknowledge the popularity of oak. However, if you have several antiques in you home, you might find that walnut fits better. Many do not like the width and constrast of oak grain and oak seems to have been second to walnut in status. I merely bring it up because walnut is found on a lot of vintage Klipsch and other speakers. My Quartets, Academy and entertainment center are all oak. I like the look, but walnut may make a comeback. (I say this while looking for a pair of HWO Heresys.)
  5. They salesman at the audio boutique told me that you can't find real walnut veneer speakers anymore. It's cost prohibitive. He's probably right all but the very upper end of the market, but have you all found that to be true?
  6. I live just south of garymd and the power is spotty all around. We all walked around the neighborhood last night expecting to experience leaning into high winds. But, NOOOOOOO! Isabelle crapped out before she ever got our way. But we did get a mild drenching. Just as well.
  7. Oh, I get it: Puss-in-bootsy! Of course!...NOT. Good post, clue. "Big" followed by anything is a moniker given, not assumed. Just goes to show ya... rock on. it's friday and isabell is outa here.
  8. item number 3046274210 NEG HIM! NEG HIM! NEG HIM! We're waiting. We want to see nonpaying eBayers get what they deserve! "Positively no bidders with less than 10 feedbacks unless you email 1st with your intentions of following through if you win." aabootsy72( 0 ) $945.00 Sep-09-03 17:17:50 PDT moses-andrade( 0 ) $935.00 Sep-16-03 10:21:37 PDT moses-andrade( 0 ) $910.00 Sep-16-03 10:21:13 PDT moses-andrade( 0 ) $890.00 Sep-16-03 09:51:52 PDT moses-andrade( 0 ) $870.00 Sep-16-03 09:51:28 PDT dukiedog( 1 ) $850.00 Sep-13-03 12:23:27 PDT kornerhorn( 0 ) $699.00 Sep-09-03 17:25:56 PDT Looks like you could sell for $10 less. So DEAL! Hmmmm. NEG HIM (Or her) NOW!
  9. It would be fine if he demonstrated a jouneyman's approach to a music system. Rather, his frenetic state overshadows any modicum of knowledge he may have and his approval-seeking posts (here and other forums) get absurd really fast with his endless contradictions and indefensable claims. A little humility would do him good. Really, BB, a pic of you ogling walnut K's and claiming they are oaks only point out your need for a reality check.
  10. I thought you already owned a pair!! (This added on 9-19-03: Since this is the first post on this page, you can stop reading this thread right here. Below this post is another stupid feud between forum members where nobody gains anything and it's getting way too personal.)
  11. Looks like a ruse to me. Winning bidder (aabootsy72) has zero feedback. He should at least have one neg for welching from BB. If someone welched on me for 950, I'd neg him for sure!
  12. Take a look at this: http://www.sncsurf.com/ There are also some webcams on this page. Tomorrow should be intense for these areas. No doubt the cameras will be off-line, but it could be worth a look. another: http://www.wrightsville.com/bchcam.htm My family spent the evening bringing in all the plants, etc. from around the yard and securing all the lawn furniture, etc. could be a marathon skip-bo or railroad dominoes evening. zip: 21044 later.
  13. It's slowing down. Keep praying. Nobody wants this destruction. Not even homebuilders.
  14. Eddie Van Halen will be remembered as a great guitarist stuck in a bubblegum rock band. He needs to dump his brother's mediocre drumming and form his group around his craft. What a waste. He's 48 years old. It may be too late for him to realize this. addition: Lowell George for his influential slide guitar. honorable mention: Ty Tabor (still developing)
  15. Did I say "Daredevil = Batman+Spiderman+Neo." I should have said: Daredevil = Batman+Spiderman+Neo divided by good acting and directing.
  16. Daredevil = Batman+Spiderman+Neo. Borrowed the DVD from a friend. Glad I didn't waste the money on even a rental. Affleck seemed to put no life into his character and they probably could have paid a power-chinned no-name at 1/10 the salary. Even the gratuitous love scene was just another reason to never see this movie again. Although the sound effects may show off a good system, it ain't worth another 1.5 hours of my time.
  17. That pic of your and the Mrs. on a "Lake Michigan boatride" wouldn't by any chance be on the (click here) ferry would it? I have reasons for asking.
  18. Deep Purple - Machine Head Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory Traffic, Where the Eagle Flies and Low Spark of the High Heeled Boys ANY Little Feat, especially Dixie Chicken and Feats Don't Fail Me Now and their live album (Lowell George ruled on slide guitar, n'est pas?) Chicago - VI (get the remastered) Crack the Sky - any Yes - Fragile (get the remastered) CSNY - Deja Vu
  19. That is one of the funniest posts I have ever read on these forums. Your wife has the panache of an executive warlord, i.e., a keeper. When my wife complained that the little Paradigms did not have enough sound for her to practice her flute, I jumped to agree and replaced them with some classic JBLs. This CAN be fun, can't it?
  20. Okay so you have established yourself as a spendthrift. Most of us here don't roll money into equipment as much as you are able. Congratulations on your success. However, most here work with simple economics, i.e., we spend what we can afford on our hobby. Sorry to sound like a wet blanket. I now know that you are simply having fun with your money. But, where the heck do you put all that stuff and how much time do you spend enjoying music instead of swapping gear? I am waiting for an EL-34 myself, a Fisher 30-A to make a pair of mono's. I plan to have each amp right next to each speaker (probably my Valencias) with long leads to equipment (perhaps my Eico HF-85) next my sitting position. (Hey, Nosevalves, expect to get a pair of Fishers to rebuild!) Now I have to find out what cable to use for an 18' connection. Homebrew PBJ's ?
  21. Shouldn't you research how EL-84 modded Quicksilvers sound compared to other EL-84 amps before you jump? You know the joke about the two happiest days of a boat owner (the day he buys a boat and the day he sells it). There are a lot of NEW! EL-84 amps out there that could be a better investment. Just a thought. (sorry, I meant EL-34. Hey, it was 1:15 Eastern when I wrote that. 34, 84, 24, whatever. My apologies.)
  22. While you are at it, unless you already do so, pick up as many lps as you can, as many do here, of some of these same CDs. You can appreciate the art and design skills much more on full size lp covers than CD inserts. And you can play both the CD and lp of the same work through a good system and decide if CDs are really worth what you pay for them. But, hey, we are gonna buy them not matter what. The 16 bit CD is already 25 year old technology as you know and the 44,100 samples per second rate is unacceptable to sensitive ears. Even Neil Young probably would confess to owning a few CDs.
  23. I use a Russound SB-3. Does a great job. Two sources, three speaker pairs. Picked it up for $7.00 used. Good luck finding one.
  24. He already turned down my offer of $4000 each. Smart guy.
