  1. No flamenco guitarists on the list. Sorry, Charo. And Christopher Parkening will have to wait to make next year's list. Face it, if you don't smoke ganga, or appeal to those who do, you don't make the list. Pat Metheny. Charlie Hunter. Sorry. I guess this means you, too. Oh, and that Phil Keaggy guy - no Jesus freaks allowed? I guess you have to be dead or in your career twilight to be considered.
  2. FZ without SV? (Steve Vai) This list is useless and likely compiled with the help of label reps "tokens of appreciation."
  3. OT TWO Academys on eBay now from the same seller. This should be entertaining. Any bets on how many offers the seller is getting right now?
  4. Hey, how about staying on topic? And that would be FOOD. If you ever get to beautiful little Glen Burnie way, stop in at Roys Kwik Korner and get yourself a Baseball Crabcake sandwich. Tacky website but if you are really hungry, this is the place. It is all carryout. I remember the owner, Mike, said that you can have crabs flown to whereever you may be.
  5. Gunnings. Great place also. You don't know Maryland until you can eat a soft shell crab. mmmmmmmmmm!
  6. Crab Shanty on Rt. 40? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! One of my favorite places.
  7. I have several vintage units but all need restoring. I want to start by testing the tubes. Any suggestions before I shell out a few bills? Thanks.
  8. You CAN have too much of a good thing.
  9. I'd fill it with cash and gold bars. Or I would fill it with NOS Academys that I would sell on eBay when I needed some cash. Seriously, 1. Hire a decorator. 2. Hire a professional A/V installler, get extended warrantys and insure it for replacement value. If you have no limit to your budget, you really don't need our advice. Check out the JBL Synthesis Systems.
  10. Regardless of the price, the seller says it is in MINT condition. But there are no comments about the condition or make of the tubes. Looking at it closely, the face is NOT MINT (look above the brass plate). I regularly check out the HF-81s on ebay and I have two now. Vintage pieces RARELY are truly MINT which should mean showroom quality (pristine meaning AS NEW). Sellers often put MINT in their titles to attract buyers only to spell out the the detractions from MINT quality in the description. Caveat Emptor and ask a lot of specific questions. I overpaid for one of mine because the seller said the tubes were like new Bugle Boy. Once gotten, no labeling was visible on the tubes and there were issues with the controls. Bottom line, I would jump on this if the seller was straight with answers. BTW, check out the other offerings from this seller. He has some good junk.
  11. You might want to make a prototype first and post it so prospective buyers could see it first hand. (I have seen a few homebrews on these and other groups that lack in the appearance department. Not that you aren't skilled, but reality is not relative.) Secondly, find a few unbiased sources for testing and post the results. If you are going to sell a speaker, buyers will probably want to see some specs and graphs before you find yourself with 10-15 returned units. Also, I wonder if Klipsch may have something to say about copying and selling knock-offs.
  12. Alrighty then! I do hereby state the the Academy is an unfortunate surprise to new owners. You could have done better with a speaker at half the price. Beware to anyone paying out the proverbial nose for an overhyped old-technology neanderthal that can be outgunned by new designs half it's size. Sell your Academy and other antiques now before you realize that the word is out on this overrated beast and its ilk. Once everyone catches on, you won't get more than $90.00 for your "precious." In fact, all your old Klipsch speakers use technology that only match other audio equipment of the same vintage. So, unless you are an old-timer with tin fenders for ears who can't let go of your 78s, sell your oversized dinosaurs now while you can to some unlucky sucker who thinks metal horns and 12" paper woofers will make his MP3s sound better. There. I have done my part. You should see a few more Academys at BIN prices of $50 on eBay along with the rest of the Heritage and Classic lines.
  13. dude, you gotta check out mpingo disks http://www.shunmook.com
  14. Spend no more than ~$300 for a set of 5.1 surround headphones. Look them up on google. Privacy. Surround. Apple Cinema Dispay and sound card not included. I will say no more.
  15. 1. Get a Gardner Bender 3-Wire Circuit Analyzer ($5.00) and check you outlet for crosswiring. 2. Take both to your friend's house and try them there. (Obvious. You may have done this already. Does he know? I hear some panic in your post.) 3. Purchase a Monster line conditioner from BB and retest. If that proves nothing is wrong, you can return it no questions asked. 4. What else is on the same circuit? Everyone building an A/V system should map their circuit to rule out interference from noisy motors, power hogs, etc. ESPECIALLY if your system is in a room addition. Too many amps (ampheres, not amplifiers) running from the same breaker could be trouble down the line. (Pun intended) 5. Is you home wired with aluminum? Check your outlets and consider pigtailing with copper if it is. As a side note, My radio in my Honda did not sound right from day one. Two dealer repair shops told me everything was fine. Finally, one replaced it at my badgering. The difference was night and day. Just because others can't hear it, does not mean there is nothing wrong.
  16. The ideal shape/proportion of a hometheater (is this a compound word yet?) is an enlarged shoebox. Don't ask me where I read that, but you can find it on the internet somewhere. Beyond that, it is all room treatment, equipment, seating position, and the ethereal, ambient "feeling" of your completed room.
  17. You can't make a statement like that and not tell us what you are dumping. Do tell, what are your "old Klipsch speakers?" The Klipschwolves are lurking, waiting to pounce.
  18. I know how you feel. I can handle rugged cabinets but ding'ed up drivers make me nuts. You will have to ask her why she even poked at them in the first place. "Hmm. Is that really metal?" Klipsch should have placed WARNING: DON'T TOUCH CHEAP FOIL CONES THAT BEND EASILY stickers on them, IMO. All the demo units I have ever seen have bent cones. Go figure. You won't see bent carbon fiber cones on 30 year old Pioneer HPM-100s! Oh well, "another country heard from."
  19. You might want to visit http://www.unitedhomeproducts.com in your travels. These guys will sit in the room with you and discuss the sound qualities of different capacitors. They are near Fort Meade.
  20. You're welcome and "No charge."
  21. Both these were taken from: http://www.mynetwatchman.com/kb/security/articles/popupspam/ This worked for me and I am sure it will work for you if you are having those blasted messenger popups. It is simple. You DO NOT need a program to fix this kind of problem.
