  1. steamer, it's a dbx Project1 234 crossover. heres a link to a newer version of the same crossover: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Live/Sound/Signal/Processors?sku=183516 thanks for the info guys!
  2. I also want to hear that JBL midhorn. I really didn't like the sound of the MA1200/ Peach combo. The fan is so damn loud and it just wasn't as smooth as what i'm used too. I blew a tube (I think)on my S-5 and I have all this gear and thought what the hell I should hook it up. I don't think I'll keep it like this. I'm just tryin' some new sh!t before I sell it all off.
  3. Being able to control the gain and roll off points with the crossover.
  4. I was just at a concert Sun. night and my ears just stopped ringing this morning. Not what I want from my system. I do like it loud, though.
  5. Mungkiman that mural is in Indy. I had a very good pic of that straight on, but for the life of me I can't find it. I think it's on my old computer. Those damn hippies love horns.
  6. I've decided to triamp my Belles. I'll be using a Peach preamp, dBx Project-1 3 way crossover, Crown MA-1200 on the woofers, QSC RMX-850 on the midhorns, and an Ashley Fet-200 on the tweets. Is there anything I should worry about running it this way? Should I use anything to protect the tweet or will the dBX be enough? I'm also going to try the JBL 2445J in place of the K-77. Should be interesting.
  7. Mike, I remember those cases; wasn't he from Canada. I didn't really like the looks of the mesh. Piranha, what are you running those 'scalas with if you sold the 272?? I too have one of arf's wood cases for my 272. I think I have some cases that fit the 299. I have a couple of 99Ds w/ cases I think they fit the 299. I'll look when I get home tonight.
  8. The CD player remote will do all you need except attenuate. That's when pause works.
  9. I wonder how these would compare. http://cgi.ebay.com/Corner-Horns-18in-Peavey-1801-JBL-2445j-2402-Pair_W0QQitemZ5855757210QQcategoryZ14993QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  10. Your cartridge/TT/tonearm might be a better match with the Carver than the Scott. Better is always good. It's fun to play with what you have to try to get a better sound. Example: I just hooked up my homemade S-5 8 watt amp to a JM-200 and it sounds pretty damn good. Better than my McIntosh MA5100. It will have to hold me over until I can afford monoblocks.
  11. Hey Jim, I took that picture about 2 years ago. Those are the 3 Heresys I picked up from Parrot. That's my 299B as well. He really does have an awesome home. I hope he returns!!
  12. Sounds like you should worry about his package getting delivered.[]

  14. Would those be considered Allan's Essentials to Jazz? As a jazz newbie, I'm taking notes.
  15. This might clear things up 4 U: http://www.blackcatsystems.com/radio/sca.html
  16. coax is a digital output. It looks like a single RCA out sometimes its orange. Like the L rca will be white and the R rca will red. I'd buy one used off A'gon. After auditioning you find there isn't much difference resell it. The CDV I had I paid $350 used, resold it 2 1/2 years later for $500. That's how I justify buying the CAL and the obsession continues.
  17. uagain, alot of tube gear out of China will have a remote; ASL, TAD to name a couple. You might pay a premium for it, but hey it's nice. I use a CDP that has variable gain on the remote and I control volume that way. I usually have the volume all the way up on the CDP, adjust the volume on the integrated amp to my listening level and then if the phone rings or someone is talking I can attenuate with the CDP remote. There is also company's that make a pre-pre that adds a remote between the source and the pre. I think it's Transcendent maybe not, though. It seemed to be spendy at around $600. Oh by the way, it wouldn't be a waste of time to go and listen to somebody elses setup. Yes there will be some room variations, but bring your SS gear and some music you're very familiar with and see what you think. ss, I think you're on the right track with drawing your own conclusions. I will tell you it will be more dramatic of a change than going from current SS to vintage SS. Whether you like it or not is subjective. I will tell you this, anyone who has come over to my house that has never even seen a tube was completely blown away. "That amp is 45 years old and sounds that good." I'm from the SS generation and not a single contemporary of mine has heard a tube anything. I didn't know of tube gear until this forum. I thought my Adcom GFA555 was the shiznit. It's a hobby, for me anyway not a way of life. It's about the music and the love of it, not the source and the amps. I believe many get to a point and it becomes more of a status symbol. Don't fall into that pitfall. That's when you're on BB like this one talking more about the gear than actually listening to it. I had to take a year hiatus from this place just to listen again. It is a fun and expensive journey!
  18. Coytee, Yes the DAC would be between the changer and the pre. As long as the changer or CDP has a coax output it can be used as a transport. What are you hoping to gain by adding a tube CDP? Will these be mated to the Peach and the MC30s? I don't think you'd hear much of an improvement going with a tube CDP. I don't know of a tube CD changer. I did own a Dynaco CDV-1Pro a while ago and although it sounded very nice mated to SS equip. it really wasn't any better than my Sony changer when mated to my Scott tube amp or my ASL amp. I hear good things our of the Benchmark DACs but for right around 1000 bucks used it's pretty far down on my list of essentials. If your looking for a quality changer you might want to look at the California Audio Labs CL-10. Although, the company went bellyup there are still brand new units on ebay being closed out. You can get one for $650 when they used to sell for about $1500. I've been pretty tempted myself. I finally broke down and bought a CL-15 for $400. It's a single disc that used to sell for $1800. I've been wanting to buy a reference CDP for sometime now.
  19. I'd hardly call the MAC 1900 a Rolls Royce. Not to sound condesending, (and I'm not trying to be) but that is definately not the best SS Mac gear. It wouldn't take too much of an investment in tubes to top those. Are you using the phono section on the MAC? Vintage integrated is a good place to start. I replaced a C-26 and a MC-250 w/ a rebuilt Scott 299A mkII about 2 years ago (on Khorns). Exactly what Craig said. It's the 3 dimensional sound that is sooooo heavenly. My girlfriend and I were listening this past weekend (she hardly has golden ears; 85% def in her right ear) and she was completely blown away by what we heard. She said people just don't know what they're missing. The masses are usually content on blasting their music trying to get the dynamics that tubes bring you effortlessly. It's been pretty addicting for me. After the 299A, I sold the McIntosh gear and I bought a 299B and a 99D both rebuilt by Craig. I use those 3 amps in a 5.1 HT/SACD/DVDA setup. The 299A pushes R & L Khorns, 99D on a Heresy center, and the 299B pushes Heresy rears. It sounds amazing. Too bad SACD and DVDA is dead. I also have a 272 that's off getting repaired, that will run Belles in another 2 ch setup and a JM Peach w/ a pair of monoblocks (eventually) that will run LaScalas in my bedroom. You will definately enjoy the music with tubes. Do you need tubes to enjoy the music? I sure do.
  20. ummmm... yeah, you're probably missing alot. Nah... Ignorance is bliss. You're only missing the satisfaction of hearing things in the music you've probably never heard before. Don't bother, you seem quite content with what you have now. Happy Listening!
  21. Most of the vintage stereo Scott integrated amps, ie. 222, 272, 296, 299... have a center ch. pre-output. Very handy when adding a subwoofer.
  22. Dean, when are you gonna come off that TEAC? I didn't realize you're still using it. Whenever your done with it, let me know. Is Craig building you a pair of VRDs?
  23. Duke can you tell me what "AudioFile grade" means?? Do you think your Crown amps are Audiophile Grade? You're right though 30 years ago Scott wasn't a name you'd prob associate w/ quality audio gear. However, 45 years ago or there abouts when the 222 was introduced you might have a different opinion.
  24. It may not sell. Not much of description there. He could of at least turned it on and got a pic. At the very least he could've wiped some of the dust off the cabinet. I'm with Thebes on this one, if he backed out he's a ******; I wouldn't deal with him.
  25. jpm wrote the following post at 01-23-2006 7:39 PM:LaScallas don't normally have grills. Mine have full grills from the factory; one of less than 20 that were sold that way. Not really my taste as I like the partial grills. It makes my 'Scalas look like Cornwalls. That's why I hide these hideous speakers in my bedroom.
