  1. Greetings: From experience, positioning of the speakers is important. The distance away from the wall, keeping close to corners, diameter of speaker cable. Please note I am not recommending any brand of cable. Additionally, check to see if the system has a flat setting - tone controls out. That can be another possible. Experiment with speaker placement - distance away from wall and if you really have doubts if possible try another set of speakers. The last is the room itself: length to width to height. It's possible the size of the room may be in play. Good Luck
  2. Greetings: Thanks Fish - it's a pleasure to meet you and all the others on the Board. It dawned on me this morning what has been missing from this discussion - lawyers. In New York State, Manufacturers equipment has to meet published specificatins. Additionally, if a Sales Clerk puts a guarantee/Warranty/statement in writing, it takes on the portion of Contract. The same for signs in a store regarding return policy, NSF check fee, "a" stock or "B" stock, as-is etc.. The rest boils down to words spoken - an opinion to sell a certain product or put down another product - by a sales clerk, a "friend," or an expert (right). So if things are wrong, we may as well sue (as a Summons/Complaint/Subpoena Server, it adds to my charges). But, as I gave my opinion in an earlier post, in the 60s and 70s Klipsch was getting shot down because of horns. Don't buy a LaScala because it's a P.A. speaker, the Belles sound terrible and the Cornwalls are "dead." And with tube equipment, Telefunken and Genalex are the only brands to consider - I wonder why McIntosh used a lot of RCA? In my opinion, we know what we like, what we want to hear, and what types of music we listen to. That's what makes us different, that's the important part of life. BTW - my thanks to those who sent me emails re the RF7s (Fish), and those who made some contact regarding a Variac or "home brew" Variac. And I used to have a '73 Challenger, so in my opinion Mopars rule, but now that I'm "responsible" I drive another brand. Thanks
  3. Greetings: In my own humble, crazy, "expert," newbie, opinion, I would have to say all points have been covered. I may be wrong. In summation, I would never walk into someone's house and say that their piece, or pieces, of equipment/system, does not sound good. Nor would I state that the system does NOT live up to its specifications unless I brought in my own testing equipment and crew to move all furniture, equipment, baffles, "false corner," - never understood that one - if it's made. it's a corner. It may not be part of the room, but... it's there. In a serious light, Fish what are YOUR opinions on the RF7s - assembly, sound, etc. Your Honor, the jury may be excused with our appreciation for service. You have all made good points ! Thanks, dodger
  4. Greetings: As a perfect example of "critic license," I have been told that the Cornwall is a poor speaker, that all Klipsch sound tinny because of horn use. Also been told tube Marantz far surpasses tube McIntosh, and so on. Moon sums it with "it's an opinion." It also has relevance to your particular hearing curve - how well you hear what, if anything at all. Different cables, Interconnects, even recordings sound different to different people. Or if you listen to some of the Beatles cd's they sound fast, yet G. Martin assisted on the re-manufacture - did he forget or did he just take the money? If it sounds good to you, you don't have to have it repaired numerous times, you're happy - that's what counts. Yes adding a disclaimer is all well and good, but we have to take the chance ourselves and we live with it. We may think we're experts, but sometimes even a poorly rated unit performs well and sounds good so where does that leave us? If you buy it for me, no strings attached, pay for upkeep and electricity, clean it then I'll allow someone to dictate what to own to me. Otherwise, we're human, have our own preferences and tastes which equal an opinion, not a definite. Yes, check the facts and have fun reading and learning different things on this Board. Thank You for teaching me and I'm off my long soapbox.

Yeah I've decided that since I have spare KT88s (Genalex) and Matched 6L6gt"s, Ill use them first on the Chorus IIs when I bring them over or on the RF7s. For what I paid for the spare KT88's, I've got to do it. In my years, nothing has ever sat unused so for all that THINK I know, I still have more to learn. Help!!!! dodger
  7. Greetings: I have some tube equipment not used for awhile. I have read about powering up using a Variac. Not familiar with a variac - questions: Where can I rent/borrow one from? Tubes in or out when starting? Instructions for use? Thanks

Took a head first fall on Sunday, got what's called a "tympatic concussion." Dizzier than usual. Thanks for all of the kind remarks re the LaScalas. As I said in one email, I'm too careful and cheap to damage equipment. I used to serve Summons/Subpoenas, Collections to get into a jam. My thanks to both who picked the speakers up. Re: finsh - Watco has been great on things for me. RE: RF7s: would those owning contact me with your thoughtss and impressions compared to LaScalas. Will update on Cornwalls when head is doing a bit better. Again, my thanks to all. dodger
  10. Greetings: I'm trading to Reference due to space. I have a house that's about 1000 sq. ft., and after 25 years I have some other interests that will take up room. I am ONLY listing them on this board, as I want them to go to those that would appreciate them. And yes I do have WEbTV, I spent many hours on a computer at our local PD so I appreciate that offer of photographing the Cornwalls. As for price, I am letting this board Partially determine that. After the experience of selling the LaScalas, I am giving more time for serious buyers to make contact. I don't wish to debate Heritage vs Reference. That has been done. I've spent my time and money being on the road or in studio, I've collected quite a bit. Now I'm making room and finding out who the serious buyer is - not the highest bid necessessarily. If there are disbelievers, I am sorry. Thank You All. And I thank those driving 8 hours one way to buy the LaScalas.
  11. Happy Birhday sir. May your tubes forever glow.

  15. Greetings: I have a Sony 5 disc. Every once in a while it will skip. Bought a Radio Shack Lens cleaner Cd and some "air spray" in a can. Use the Air spray, then the lens cleaner disc. That helps. Good Luck
  16. Greetings: After listening a-b between the RF7s and the Paradigms, I found the Paradigms to be a bit flat. Aloss of dynamic range. That may be due to my hearing curve, but that is what I found. I have had tubes since the '70s. I find a 'warmer" (yes, I'm tired of that word also), slightly more accurate sound. I play bass - '63 Fender Precision, my Mother was a concert violinist - graduate on violin and viola from the Eastman School of Music (full scholarship), my Father played Trumepet and Harmonica. I have also worked as a Sound Engineer - live and Studio. Solid Stae is fine but, for my hearing tube has more accuracy. As a side note the ONLY eason I am changing from LaScalas is a 12 x 12 foot room which does not allow the proper throw of the LaScalas (I tell myself that due to my wife's wanting me to change.) I have slightly modified my Heresys to satisfaction. I cannot compare the modified to the Heresy IIs as no dealer within 100 miles of me has any in stock. I am a 2 channel dinosaur. I can install HT but my preference is 2 channel. I hope to acquaint NOS Valves for any work on my McIntosh, if he would do so. Good Luck and can someone email info on different under $1000.00 models of SVS susbs I have been seeing in the posts? Thanks.
  17. Greetings: It would seem that whoever did the re-coning may not have done a proper job. There is a small place in Rochester, NY (no affiliation) named "The Speaker Place" that does an excellent job. www.speakerparts.com, (585) 424-3680. As for cabinet finish oil, lacquer, poly, or tung oil. Anything else would be a terror. I've refinished guitars, finished furniture and I cannot say that using liner finish would do anything but damage the sound and the value. Re-coninig or replacing is one thing, but also keep in mind the odor. I hope this helps.
  18. Greetings: If possible, one pair for me. I would defer to one who has lost theirs. Mine need updating.
  19. Greetings: As a newbie, I had an odd tube question which I asked. I was not made to feel uncomfortable, nor stupid. That makes for a very open spot should I need assistance with my equipment - which I value dearly.
  20. Hello: Back in the '70s I had bought my LaScalas 2 years apart. My second pair had very little bass. I checked polarity, no problems. I noticed a change of bass drivers. I called the company, for the cost of shipping I was able to swap drivers. I did. The bass improved to that of the first pair. Playing bass guitar and listening to the bass sections in our Philharmonic had made me very aware of what bass should sound like. The change in drivers made the difference.
  21. Hello: Does anyone have 3 linear yards of the Klipsch black # 17 grille cloth they are looking to get rid of? I have use for such on some LaScalasas (genuine Klipssch). Contact me if you do or know of some available. Thanks.
  22. Greetings: I would be interested in a pair also, if still available. Thanks, I forgot to check the box at the end reply to me at me box
  23. Hey Moon: I have had some questions about how the prices seem to go up. I am no accusing anyone of conspiring to drive the price of an article up, but..... I have used proxy bidding with luck and with having it bite me. This will probably get me on some "banned bidders" lists (yes, they do exist), but for certain items I have been run to my maximum very quickly and then, no more bids. I have learned not to bid until there are only 2 days left in the auction and then for price use an odd amount say $15.87. That has been of help. I wish you good luck and hope for the best for you. Whoops, forgot about "Reserve Price" auctions. If you set a proxy bid that is higher than the Seller's "Reserve Price," and hit confirm you can go up VERRRRRRRY quickly. You will automatically be taken to that reserve price. So if a Seller has an item with a reserve price of $50.00, you see a price of $2.00 and really want the item, so you proxy bid $51.00 - you will automatically go to the Reserve Price of $50.00 on your first bid. Sounds complicated, but you can get stung very quickly. But I still wonder how prices go up so quickly, almost like someone is driving the price up for a friend... Makes me want to go hmmmmmmmm
  24. It's like going to a grocery store or a store where you sweep your card through and no clerk checks your signature or even asks for any identification. If you own a house or property, you can call the local County Clerk and find out the addresses, and if you go a step further, you can find if a person has any outstanding judgemenents or liens recorded against them. It's all public information.
