  1. Have fun with the Belle. That will be interesting to A/B with the Cornwalls, esp. to contrast the bass. Think that would be the best way to discern a preference for a bass horn or direct. From a response HDBRBuilder had to a post on La Scala's with casters, he said being elevated would diminish the bass. Positioned directly on the floor would improve the bass. Plans to use as center channel until Christmas? Easter? Christmas 2004? Regards, Dee
  2. Justin, Congrats! You are one generous guy to post a pic even before you listen to the new amp. What does the top of that bad boy look like? Would be interested to see a pic there, too. Regards, Dee

Go ahead and get a Sony jam box at Best Buy. The resale value isn't that good, but what the heck. You're worth it. Dee
  5. Win, Man, that's ALOT of gasoline to be spilled. Sorry to hear that you will have to deal with that, moving and more. That's kind of you to offer these pieces of your system to the forum. Wish I was more in the market, and I sure have been interested to hear the Chorus. Their condition would be better than a demo straight out of the store. Anyway, noticed your post on Heresy binding posts. Did you get some delivered? I've just upgraded a pair and have the originals lying around as spares, if you could still use them. Just let me know. Regards, Dee

Subtle, but good! Best regards, Dee
  7. Putting the pie slice logo on the Heritage products is a great idea. Dee
  8. Great post! I have been really curious about how Chorus would do head to head with Cornwall and not surprised at the results. Now, because of the interesting threads back in the history of the forum... on the preferences for La Scala or Cornwall.... now we need a LS CW shootout. Regards, Dee

The lenses are a hard polymer resin, and ribbed as well (if you pull one out you'll see what I'm talking about). The caulking is reserved for the metal squawker lenses that ring like the Liberty Bell. Practice some soldering. Upgrade the caps in your crossover. It will pay huge dividends. 10. Thanks Cyclone. Yep, how the woofers were wired was just what I was wondering. I think this would be a fun project to build sometime. Dee
  11. O.K. I don't have exactly the itch for spending the money to get cables when I could use the same bucks on an amplifier, but I am definitely curious about this. Having some kind of conditioner makes sense to me. And maybe having decent A/C cord from the conditioner to the component. But am I understanding the marketing claims right? How will a nice hospital grade five foot A/c cord attached to any component make it sound better when the current is coming through who knows what condition of transmission wires and then through the antique wiring in my own house? Appreciate your feedback here and thanks in advance for contributing to my electronics education. Regards, Dee

He knows how compulsive I am, and just doesn't want to see me get burnt. We just talked on the phone, and in all honesty -- everything he said was right on. ---------------- Dean, you've got that right about Craig watching out for you. I am fond of saying, "If I'm lost in Atlanta, a map of Chicago ain't gonna help me." Straight out candid talk, that's what somebody's gonna tell you if they are really your friend. Thanks for remembering Colin. What do you think the possibilities are for getting a sixpac demo for review? Dee
  13. Dean, Manoman! Those Quicksilvers are fine looking amps. Really fine. The new amps sound like an attractive idea, and it's pretty cool to be courted by the designer and builder. Aside from Craig gettin some exercise by slamming you up against the wall, he does have at least one good point to consider: That is let someone else take the hit on the cost of brand new amps. It probably won't be too long before someone has some for sale on Audiogon. That might even allow you the luxury of still having the QS in the house when you get the new ones for a real head to head comparison. That would allow you the most bang for the buck kind of value. Thought of one proposition for Dennis, that could be a genuine win-win situation. Remembering that I ran across one of the members of this forum who authored a review of Paramours somewhere out on the net... an attack of amnesia has stricken now,(it was an excellent review, and seems like I have seem multiple reviews by this same gentleman forum member) anyway, if Dennis would send out a pair for demo and review that would earn alot of good will among potential customers and yield some reviews to be published, too. That's just part of the biz. Think I saw the review on enjoythemusic.com On the 299b, that was the first weekend in May. Regards, Dee
  14. Sold to a member of the forum. Nice to keep things in the family. Dee
  15. Gary, Seems like I have run across a discussion or review on the web somewhere that had a discussion of soundstage with tube amps. Also being new to tubes and a non-tech type, alot of what I read goes over my head. (But I have just bought some books on intro to electronics and reading schematics, etc hoping I can be taught) The web reviewer was saying that soundstage is a perceptual thing that can't be measured with instruments. I have no clue as to whether that statement is accurate. You can find people on the internet who will make a case that the sky is not blue! All that is to say, when you wrote that you were listening to your music collection as if for the first time, I've been thinking the same thing. I haven't enjoyed music so much in years. really. Another thing that is interesting, in that I may listen to something I'd had for years, say some particular tracks on a CD that I just didn't care for, that now I will sit through and listen and hear the recording and blending of instruments, with a richness I hadn't heard before. It wasn't that I didn't like the music. Just hadn't heard enough of it to know. Probably have repeated this too much in my posts, but the real surprise in discovering the tube world, is that my wife enjoys listening, too. Regards, Dee
  16. I once used RS (that's Redneck Shack if you're from Arkansas) piezo tweeters in some big speakers for spinning records at school dances. Listened to them at home, too. That was back when God was young and I thought they sounded good. Those were sweet years, spinning records on weekend nights and getting paid for it. Used to think, "Man this is great, I'm doing what I'd be doing anyway, listening to music LOUD, and getting paid for it, too!!!" Dee
  17. Hi Wolfram, Your SET point is probably well taken. My SET observations are from listening to Bottlehead Paramours. I would think it probably fair to say that even Paramours built by a highly competent builder, such as mine were by a member of this forum... would still have some compromises in order to meet the price point they serve. I had been thinking Wright 2A3's were an excellent candidate and then missed two very nice pairs which sold on Ebay and Audiogon for excellent prices. BTW, have enjoyed reading your posts on getting your Wright 2A3's set up and your impressions of their sound. It would be about a toss up for me to choose between Wright and Welborne DRD's, but I'm leaning in the direction of Welborne. Even the SS rectification. Regards, Dee
  18. Thanks y'all. Glad to hear some have had good exp. here. Dee
  19. Yep, the 110 is 1984 vintage and the 101 is older than that. I think you are right on the 945, though it is not in production now. Hafler has got a technical library on it's website: hafler.com if you wanted to check the specs on the 945. Dee
  20. Well, the WAF is starting to have an impact on the inventory of amplifiers I'm o.k. to keep around the house. Have got a freshly rebuilt 299c by NOSValves. It is very nice, as one would expect from Craig. Also, he ships amps wrapped better than a dead pharoah. I have been thoroughly enjoying one of his 299b's I purchased from another member of this forum and I had been intensely curious about the sound of the 7591 output tubes and one really cool feature. In addition to the derived center channel output, the 299C has a volume control for this output that is not available on other amps. A fine feature to control volume to a sub. Anyway, I have found that I prefer the overall sound of the 299b and while the 299c is certainly respectable and well regarded in this forum, just can't keep both. I've got several items I've got to get out on Ebay. Thought I'd give the forum first shot. Price would be $550 including vintage output tubes that Craig says test good and strong. Looks good, no case. If the buyer replaces the 7591 tubes with the 7591A which is in production, those tubes may be too tall to fit inside the case. email me with questions. Haven't asked Craig, but I'm sure he'd be glad to respond to any questions about the amp, too. Regards, Dee
  21. SirJayLord, Since I'm not familiar with the preamp you are replacing, I don't know if I'd have anything of interest to you. But I do have three Hafler pre's that I have got sitting around waiting for a slack day to put out on Ebay. The nicest is a Hafler 945 Tuner/Preamp w/remote. Motorized volume control. Sweet SS preamp and rack mountable. It's condition is mint. Also have rack mountable 101 and 110. Dee
  22. Yep, and it's really hard to hide La Scala's. Dee p.s. just think of the garage sale we could have if geography weren't a problem. It is always a bummer to buy in good faith something that is not as described and the most unpleasant experience to go round and round with the seller. Even if they agree to take the item back, the busted buyer is out for shipping each way. Most uncivilized but it seems to go with the territory.
  23. Malcom, Great post. This is one has to be a candidate for the best of FAQ forum. Thanks for the tutorial on crossovers. Regards, Dee
  24. Phil, Reading through this thread makes me feel alot better about Klipsch making good on these RF problems. I couldn't really imagine it being o.k. with Klipsch to have something less than excellent in product or support. Sounds like they've worked a win-win outcome with you. Dee
