wuzzzer
My wife and I had planned on going to Yellowstone National Park thisyear but a call from a resort on a Wisconsin lake a few months back ledus to an impromptu vacation that ate up most of our vacation fund. Weagreed to postpone Yellowstone for another year.I still wanted to go somewhere fun for a few days so I asked my wife ifI could plan a vacation without her knowing where we were going. Shehad to think about it for a little bit but then said that would be fine. So, we're heading west to Rapid City, South Dakota for a few days. Ihave the itinerary all planned: Mount Rushmore, Badlands Nat'l Park,Wind Cave Nat'l Park, Rapid City Museum of Geology and a waterfall nearRapid City. She's never been out that way and I haven't been out therefor 20 years.I was able to book a room at the Super 8 motel in Rapid City for$35/night! Comes with a free continental breakfast every morning andfree coffee in the room. I guess it helps to be traveling duringoff-peak season! Moderators dtel Posted September 7, 2009 Moderators Share Posted September 7, 2009 Sounds like fun, does she know where she's going yet ? And I hope you know we will expect pic's !
wuzzzer
Sounds like fun, does she know where she's going yet ? And I hope you know we will expect pic's ! Nope. I don't think she'll guess until we're close to Rapid City. I think she might guess that we're still going to Yellowstone because the way out to Rapid City would be the same way we'd take to Yellowstone. I'll definitely bring our camera and take lots of pics. wuzzzer
I was thinking of somehow coming up with a game or riddle to give her that if she got it she'd know where we're going. But, I really want to keep the surprise as long as I can.

endover
Yellowstone huh? So...if someone wanted to plan a trip to Yellowstone from sayyyy Florida, where's the best place to fly into that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I've always wanted to go there but it's too hard to get to.
Islander
Your South Dakota "magical mystery tour" sounds like it could be a great time! Lots of interesting sights and probably far fewer tourists than in the summer months.
