Look at the picture above, and you can see where this driver
broke through the guardrail, on the right side of the culvert,
where people are standing on the road, pointing.

The pick-up was traveling about 75 mph, from right to left,
when it crashed through the guardrail.

It flipped end-over-end, bounced off and across the culvert outlet,
and landed right-side-up on the left side of the culvert,
facing the opposite direction from which the driver was traveling.

The 22-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger
were unhurt, except for minor cuts and bruises.

Just outside Flagstaff , AZ on U..S. Hwy 100.

Now, look at the second picture below . . .

Interesting pictures. I'm a bit intrigued.

Clearly, we have an indication of a precipice here and a real danger of falling a far distance.

I'm wondering why, if you look at the first picture, they installed a fence around something on the left hand side. This fence can be seen in the second picture as well.

If that fence is to keep something from falling down the ravine, then I'd suggest whoever designed the fence did a poor job. Why walk up to this dangerous ravine and put 20' of safety fence?

I'm also a bit dubious that the guys next to the truck would be standing with their heels on this edge without any apparent safety harness on.

If this drain is as large as it seems to be, it must be to convey a fair amount of water? Perhaps it's there so the skunks can cross safely under the road? If it's for water and for a large amount of water, would they really have that water cascade down this cliff? I'd suspect that after years of being a waterfall, you might risk some undercutting of the edge?

Interesting pictures but I'd prefer to see another independent picture of this area to lower my Missouri heritage ("show me")

I wonder if there was a passenger in the vehicle? That 1st step would have been a doozy. I had a similar near death experience. My uncle was a fishing person and frequently went to Mexico. He took several of us teens on one trip to Ensenada. As teens sometime do, we partook of the cerveza. A friend and myself did a late night gizzard bleed run. We took a flashlight but decided not to turn it on. We walked a distance, stopped and did our business. Upon doing so we heard none of the telltale sounds of that 'business' hitting anything. So upon completion of said duties we turned on the flashlight and illuminated nothing but sky. We were standing at the precipice of a 200 foot cliff. One more step and we would have surely died. Gives one pause to think about guardian angels.

hard to see much detail in those pictures; but, i don't see any safety lines on those responders. And if you have an imagination like mine, it looks like the responders in yellow are pushing the vehicle towards the edge, which sure would suck for the guys in blue. geez, i watch way too much television.
