Inkabodpain
So my wife decided that she would like speakers for the living room . For mostly listening to music . She does not want them to be big and bulky but with good sound and some bass . Any ideas ?
tube fanatic
You need to establish your budget and decide whether you want floor standing or bookshelf type speakers. Any of the smaller Reference Line speakers would be good choices, depending on the size of the room and where they need to be placed. Also, the new Icon series speakers which are being sold at Best Buy have very decent specs at fair prices. It probably is worth purchasing from a dealer which has a return policy in case you are not satisfied with the sound when installed in your room. Inkabodpain
I would say no more than 300 for the pair.
mustang guy
I have seen Klipsch Forte's go for $350-400 on ebay. You can probably do better on Craigslist.
wuzzzer
The KG series is great, small footprint and great sound. The 3.5 and 4.5 are very narrow and not deep and sound fantastic.
Rivernuggets
I second the KG line. Very affordable on the used market. 3.5s in good shape can be had for around $120-150 a pair. Sure there will be sellers wanting more. Just be patient and a good deal will come along.
mustang guy
KG 4.2's can be bought for $300-400. Just a thought... I have a pair, and they sound great!
Groomlakearea51
Don't overlook a pair of Heresy's; they too can be had for ~$400, and can be very easily be "tweaked", and refinished, etc.
Ave Bona Cornwall
"Big and Bulky" from a woman's point of view may be all these speakers recommended in this thread (except the icons?). As Klipsch fans, we tend to overlook that. She may be thinking Bose lifestyle cubes or something like that. Check with her, she may have bookshelf size speakers in mind; Heresy's may be a good comprimise, certainly findable for under $300.
