cjmustang69
Thanks to an Alert in Garage Forum earlier this week, I purchased a nice pair of Chorus I speakers from Ebay. I just brought them home today after a 5.5 hour round trip drive. It was well worth the drive for me, as they are as nice as described in Ebay listing. I currently have them hooked up to a Parasound based system. Not certain what I will end up driving them with. I snapped a few photos of speakers tonight. I'll take a few more tomorrow after I've cleaned them up a bit. I've had several Heritage speakers in past, but believe these may be the "optimum" model for me - given my room requirements.
billybob
Looking like they have found a home. Interesting spiral veneer. Parasound wow. They appreciate the watts. Ours do! How you liking them? Thanks for the pics! Forgot now who posted them.

Based on numerous threads, I have ordered the Ti diaphragms from Bob Crites. I don't know if Parasound will be with them long term, or if I look for a nice integrated tube amp to pair with them.

I had purchased a mint pair of Forte II speakers last year - sold them to the son in law of respected Forum member shortly after I purchased them. These are very, very close to same mint condition. I organized my system this morning - have the Chorus about 8" to 11" off rear wall. Will listen for awhile and see what I hear. Hoping they sound nice close to rear wall, as this was primary reason to change out speakers in this system. I have a pair of Magnepans on the perpendicular wall - sitting out 60" from rear wall. I needed to free up some floor space.
wuzzzer
Nice thing about the C1s is they can be as close to a wall as you want and you don't have to worry about a rear passive needing room to breathe. I have mine toed in and jammed into the corners and they sound awesome. Not to be a downer but I picked mine up on CL for $50.

Exactly the reason I wanted the Chorus I - believing I could place closer to rear wall. Nice price for your pair - I'd love to find a pair for that price. Did you keep x-overs stock or have you upgraded them? I'm attempting to determine if I will upgrade these or not.
wuzzzer
Crossovers are stock for now. I swapped the Ti diaphragms for the tweeter and squawker with one I had been using in my Forte IIs. They sound wonderful.
cjmustang69
I received and installed my Crites Ti diaphragms this week. I also played with placement of speakers yesterday, currently 6.5' apart (speaker center to speaker center) and approximately 4" off the ATS Panels behind them. My listening position is about 15' from speakers. Overall, really happy with their sound. I was a bit worried about bass performance, given what I had read about Chorus I speakers. As I've moved them closer to rear wall, I'm very pleased with quality/amount of bass. My main sources currently are digital (Logitech Duet/Apple Macbook played through Weiss DAC2). My intention is to purchase a decent turntable as I've been bitten by the vinyl bug. Given performance of speakers, having a difficult time determining if I should upgrade crossovers in future.
billybob
You have time to have crossovers recapped. Yes, I am happy with my bass too. You will be reading about the port mod here in archives. About the same time as you *akdave scored a pair and is sounding happy with his buy. Our Chorus is 1 inch from wall. It is my go to speaker. I listened to this system for much longer than I should have today (didn't get anything done other than wash a car). I'm very impressed with the Chorus speakers. After more than 3 hours of continuous listening - no fatigue at all. The Parasound amps are Class A up to 10 watts and my listening levels wouldn't begin to exceed the 10 watts. Just an effortless, smooth combination. I don't see changing the x-overs anytime soon - maybe sometime down the road.
derrickdj1
Now that's what we're talking about. If you want nice finds, move quick! Congrats on a great pair of speakers.
billybob
Yes, those Parasounds! Maybe you can tell us more when you explore.
cjmustang69
Yes, those Parasounds! Maybe you can tell us more when you explore. I'm certain these amps are "overkill" for the Chorus speakers. They are 400 watts/channel at 8 ohms. But, as mentioned previously, Class A to 10 watts/channel (with a switch - can be Class A to 25 watts/channel). I have a pair of Monarchy SE-100 Mk II Deluxe amps, which I originally planned to pair with Chorus speakers. Just not in a hurry given how system sounds as is. Hi cjmustang69, Since you had Forte II before & now you have this Chorus I, which one do you think is better in sound/sonic wise especially for accoustic music/jazz? I'm in the middle of deciding which one to buy... Thanks & cheers, Jimmy

Thanks & cheers, Jimmy Jimmy, Difficult for me to make a true comparison of the Forte II to Chorus I speakers as my upstream equipment is totally different for the Chorus speakers versus the Forte speakers I owned. The Parasound amps/preamp I'm using with Chorus speakers is at least 2 steps above any front end I ran with the Forte speakers. I will say the Chorus seem to be able to let the quality of the upstream equipment show itself - to me showing the capability of the speakers. I honestly don't believe you can go wrong with either model. I would say a key consideration for choosing would be the room you plan to use them in and placement options/restrictions you have. While level of bass is often debated for Chorus I - I find bass to be quite good as long as you can place close to rear wall. Obviously, the Forte II needs to be off rear wall to sound correct. Good luck with your decision.

jjptkd
Congrats on your new Chorus speakers! I have owned many different sets of the Chorus, Chorus II, Forte & Forte II's. I have always preferred the Chorus because the midrange seems a bit more forward and better pronounced. Also the Chorus is quite a bit louder for those party nights and the commercial grade 15 can really take a lot of abuse. The Forte II does have "different" bass response, a bit lower but at the same time I think just a tad slower than the Chorus. Really they sound much more alike than different though as both are excellent. Sensitivity and sheer output are the most notable differences in my opinion. I received my phono preamp yesterday - matching Parasound to my amps/preamp. I hooked it up to a JVC QL-66F table last night and listened to a few albums (turntable and phono preamp position is temporary for ensuring everything worked properly). Playing vinyl through the Chorus speakers didn't disappoint as I felt they sounded great. I continue to be impressed with the Chorus speakers.
