My bad Scrappy. Lol my name is Michael Stevens. People are always calling me Steve and Steven. And although in 38 years I have NEVER seen Michael spelled Micheal, you wouldn't believe how many spell my name that way. It's no big deal to me either.

Well we ran out of time and Kevin didn't get to experience the cinema stuff (sucked cause I had a friend over to help me move it all upstairs) but he enjoyed the rf-63 theater with the cinema sub. As usual like every other person that's come over he things the cinema sub is too big for his place lol. Thing is huge! Oh well. I text him some last night and he said his wife enjoyed the 63's more than the JTR setups they went to demo. That's cool. Really shows how different everyone's ears are.

We talked about the thx ultra line and how he didn't really mind them not being so musical. Now I just need to others who own them to let him know he will need an amp for them since they are so power hungry (I know someone with a sherbourn lol).

He is thinkin dual PB-2000 for subs, but you know me I'm pushing the diy route. I'm guessing it will boil down to space. The Svs are pretty good size, easy to buy, and self powered. Diy obviously have to build, finish, then choose amp for them.

He didn't really seemed to interested in hearing the cinema stuff last night as they had somewhere to be and it takes a while to unhook and hook up a whole new set of speakers. Which I am fine with. They are large and definitely not for everyone. I just hope to have stuff up and running soon in the basement so he can come demo the subs and check out what diy has to offer.

Had fun talking with him, seems like he is gonna join the Klipsch family. Pretty sure my mom talked his girlfriend to death almost. Lol

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get to hear the Cinemas, but family stuff cropped up. I'm sorry you had to drag them upstairs for nothing. Nonetheless, I was impressed with Klipsch, and didn't find them bright or harsh at all. I actually felt like I could make out more detail than with most speakers I've heard. I'm still tempted to jump in and get some cinemas, but I would definitely have to see what can be figured out on the design and budget end of things. That sub is just massive. With the exception of 2 towers, it might be able to fit all the speakers I've ever owned inside of the space it occupies, and I wouldn't be surprised if it could fit one of those towers too.

I definitely may consider the DIY subs. If I can get a couple of 18's done for less than the SVS subs, then that maybe the way to go.

Well that's good that you liked them cause the cinemas are even better. If you went in walls thx you'll save space. But if you built a baffle for kl-650 they are a foot deep. So what a extra 1/2" for the cinema kpt-325.

Room will be done soon. You can come back up. I'll have a beer for ya and the wives can entertain each other. Then you can hear the cinema and I can even make sure just a pair of the 18's are on instead of all 4. Then you'll know exactly what you would be getting into. And if it means holding off on a decision for just a couple more weeks, in my opinion, worth the wait. And subs if you don't wanna build your own I can help you. I enjoyed building mine.

Think when my new theater is done I'm gonna have kind of a grand opening here at my house with family for it. We live in my grandmas old house and she hasn't been here in like ten years. Should be exciting for her as she hasn't been to a movie theater in prolly 15-18 years.

If I decide to do the baffle then I'll do the cinemas. The extra cost for the cinema's isn't much, especially if I save a little with DIY subs. We'll see what we can get worked up design wise and figure it out from there. I'm definitely ready to get moving on things. I've got a lot of demolition to get done here the next couple of weeks (not going to pay someone to do the one thing I feel comfortable with). Who knows, maybe I'll have more budget to spare than I think, and if the baffle thing can work, then I can go with the 904s instead of the 325s.

no just decided we are staying here a few years now and since it's a family owned rental house most of what we are doing to the home theater I'm not paying for. Room wise anyways. Upgrades to gear and stuff will be in my dime of course. So far have framed, sheet rocked, painted, picked carpet. After paint and carpet will start a "real" false wall vs what I had. Hang the new screen then go from there with some acoustic treatment and then I will finally have a home theater to be proud to actually "show" off more than just awesome sound. Plenty of pics are being taken as a new thread will be started to show the process.

Ugh, these installers are frustrating. So reluctant to actually work with what the customer wants. I had pretty much decided to go with a guy after meeting with pretty much all of them around here. I told him the equipment I was looking to go with based on the features I want in my theater. I am perfectly willing to go through him to get the equipment he carries, but I am not goimg to get something if it doesn't meet my standards.

He actually said this:

"It seems as if you are trying to combine AVS/DIY with contracting a A/V specialist. I am very wary of these types of projects, mostly due to the overwhelming amount of "bad" or "poor" information and misleading ideas, concepts and protocols.

If you prefer to approach your project as a DIY, it might be better for you to use another contractor. Trying to manage, design, integrate and program such a project is very difficult as it is; then throw in DIY variables/directions will just complicate the project even more.

I have been down this road more than once, and prefer not to travel it again.

"

I can understand reluctance to work with people who think they're an expert in everything, but I just want to have input into the main equipment, and I would defer to his expertise for design, setup, and installation. I don't think it is too much to ask to work with the equipment I select as long as it is capable of functioning together. What would he say to someone who called up and said, "Hey, I have this projector, screen, and speakers, can you build me a home theater?"

I'd say find someone else. Sounds like some bs to me. I ain't paying no one for something they don't wanna do. If they are good installers they will do their job. INSTALL. Maybe you can just meet a few more guys around here and we can all give you suggestions on things. Or ask some of them who did their stuff. Avs guys I know close to you are jedimastersegeant and randybessinger. Both have professionally done rooms. Pm them on Avs. Or let us all help you and then just hire contractors to do just certain parts. Wiring, treatment, etc.
