eth2
Well, you could buy several and see which one you like best. Then you could sell the others cheap on the Forum!
wvu80
Well, you could buy several and see which one you like best. Then you could sell the others cheap on the Forum! Y'know, because I'm in psychology, I sense there is a hidden message there somewhere, perhaps even something about yourself. I'll figure it out eventually... +++ I'm also thinking our new friend Mike might not be from around here. Where are you from, Mike? +++ Mike: You have a good budget and you should be able to get something good at that price. One thing that has been in the discussion on this forum lately, is, do you need to be compatible with the new 4K HDTV's? There are 4K HDTV's out there now, but the standard is about to change, and the ability for your Audio Video Receiver (AVR) to run HDMI 2.0 may be important for the future. Once we know that, we might be better able to help you with specific AVR models. Edited January 5, 2015 by wvu80

Jim
Any of the Marantz SR-Series, Denon AVR-X4*** SERIES, Yamaha RX-A Series, Pioneer Elite Series will do well.

Think to you I think you will help me to make my choice Welcome to the forums. There is a guy in Montreal selling an Anthem mrx-500 in your price range. Not all the bells and whistles, but for sound, tough to beat with ARC system they have. Here is the ad from Canauckaudio http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649167009-anthem-mrx500/ Looking at this one myself to replace my UMC-1 after hearing it's big brother mrx-

Jim
The Pioneer has more bass and The Marantz is better with voice and mids are clearer from what I have heard.
billybob
Welcome. May be impossible but, try to listen to Pioneer/Marantz models before you buy. As said, make certain you are getting the connectivity you want, or may need for future. Barring the ability to listen before you buy, read all the reviews you can on both. We can kick it around some here, if you would like...

tigerwoodKhorns
There are still be some Denon AVR X4000's around for a good deal on closeout (under $800), but you should move quickly.
K5SS
I sold my X4000 for $500 on CL to go back to Pioneer Elite... I also had a SC-1523-k that I sold to replace with the Denon. Big mistake. I am also considering Marantz, my free time is currently spent over researching receivers. What is your budget?
