Montego
There's one on ebay for $599 starting bid. I know they are out of business. Does anyone have any experience with these?
CECAA850
The amps can go bad and there's no support. As of yet, no readily published repair either.
Montego
Yea I read some old topics here that discussed the amp issues. Guess I'll continue my quest for RSW-15's. Thanks!
derrickdj1
They were nice subs but, due the amp problems and support, look elsewhere.
mustang guy
Right. Amps go bad. I have one I have to buy a Bash amp for. If I were an electronics guru, I would have repaired it, but the heat damage they are prone to cascades through the amp. I would avoid it unless you can get it for about $200, then you can afford to put another amp in it or power it with an external pro amp. Even then, $200 might be too much.
Montego
Appreciate the good advice. I'm going to pass on it. I want two RSW-15's but you know the saying " want in one hand, crap in the other and see which one gets filled first".
Vital
I don't know, both of mine have been perfect all these years with no amp issues. Even if I had an amp failure I would just buy a new plate amp or something. These subs are killer IMO and were easily the best bang for the buck when they were being sold.
Heritage_Head
The empire didn't/doesn't have amp problems as bad as the legend. They still have some problems but all the online sub brands have some amp issues. The rsw15 also has them. 599 imo is way to high though. I think 400 or less would be a fair deal.
Montego
I read some great reviews on them. I'm sure all of the amps aren't bad. I agree 600 is to high plus 100 shipping. Maybe he'll relist it lower.
Rowan611
$600 is high. I had one and sent it back; in my room, which is large (4500 cu.ft), it didn't have the impact I was hoping for. Don't get me wrong, it sounded great. But, I would have needed at least 1 more, maybe 2, to have the impact I was wanting. My THT does it easily. Two totally different beasts though. Good luck.
derrickdj1
They are good subs except for the amp problem that affected mostly the Legend subs, which I had. For a 4500 cu ft space, a sealed sub is not the best choice, lol.
Montego
My room is only 2000 cu ft but khorns are in front. I looking for one or two subs that will blend with them.

That was origianlly my plan, until I came across the THT. I still want to build the 18's though, as I know I'm missing a lot. My room is only 2000 cu ft but khorns are in front. Scrappydue
Just right? Ha! 4 18's are almost just right in my 1900 cu ft room lol
derrickdj1
The key is to go for that 15 Hz and up strong. If you can do that, extra extension will not even matter for most people. Even super strong 20 Hz like the Obital Shifter will give you all you want. Edited January 19, 2015 by derrickdj1
wvu80
I haven't owned one, but I wouldn't think of buying one used unless the budget you have figures in the cost of an external amp once the plate amp dies. Working or not I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one. Read the last few pages of the 20,000 post Epik Thread on AVS. Those people are mad for all those amps going out and the owner did not warranty them. The well known amp failure is what drove Epik out of business. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-subwoofers-bass-transducers/885079-official-epik-subwoofer-thread.html

Montego
y'all are out of my league but I'm trying to digest some of this info and get a decent sub for my setup
Rowan611
What's your budget? Are you handy? Do you have clamps? Access to clamps?
Montego
I'm afraid that woodworking is not on my very short handy list. Someday I would like to try a horn type build but for now I'm just looking at buying one.
