willland
Matt, Welcome to the forum. You are definitely going in the proper direction to utilize tube amps. I will keep my eye out on the web for something in your area. What is "reasonable" to you for each of your choices? Bill
Coytee
Welcome to the forum. I live in Greenback. I can give you an audition of LaScalas if you want. I also have some other goodies. If you have the space and want to go really balls to the wall, I've got a pair of MWM double cabinets (no drivers) that you could have. They use a pair of K43's but for home use, you could use the much less expensive K33 and, I'd even bet you could get away with a single driver in them verses double.

mattzack
Bill - Thanks for the reply. Do you think 1000 could get a good pair? Matt
minermark
Look on your local CL, then expand your search, you will find what your looking for Keep in mind this "First Pair" will in no way satisfy you for very long, that is the hobby.......
wvu80
Do you think 1000 could get a good pair? I can give you some "rough" numbers. Final cost is determined by finish, what shape the speakers are in, have they been modded (modded sound better) and geographic area. Plus or minus $300 is a good range. La Scala $1,000 (easiest to find) Belle - $2500 (these have a wider range, from low of $1500 to over $3000, hardest to find) Klipschorn $2500 -3,000 (again very wide range) Cornwall - not sure of the price range, fairly hard to find You are a little far away from Florida, but these Klipsch CF-4's are an outstanding value for what Alex has in them and the tremendously upgraded sound you get. Woofers and Tweeters
I agree ^ about the CF4 Cornwall, Chorus II, or Khorn won't need a sub. Do you have good corners for Khorns? What watts are the tube amps? If the room isn't too large, the Forte are great speakers.
mattzack
I have a Jadis 40 watts class b and an Art Audio 845 amp 16 watts pure class a. My room is 18x18x9.
lakedmb
Price seems a bit high on these Cornwalls, but they are in Charlotte. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/ele/5075973048.html La Scala's in Atlanta that seem high considering their condition... http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wat/ele/5114531797.html Edited July 11, 2015 by lakedmb
mattzack
I just received a pair of 1981 La Scala speakers. Cost me 1130, delivered to Knoxville from New York. Sound is not too great right now. Has original crossover. Talked with Bob Crite and ordered a crossover rebuild kit and a couple of gaskets. How do I get some 5 way binding posts on to that crossover?
