pbphoto
I have a rythmik f12-G paired with Heresy 3's in a 20x24 room. Very happy with the quality and oomph. it has a several nice controls to allow it to integrate nicely with both your main speakers and the room itself. Good value for the price IMHO, but I don't know how it compares to anything else other than some older Yamaha subs I had at the time. no affiliation. http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products1.html
jason str
My money would go to 2 of the Bic PL-200's out of your choices you have listed. Best bang for your buck & having 2 will smooth out room response if you take the time to do a sub crawl.

willland
its an open basement aprrox 600-800 sq ft Big room, 6000ft3 ++. right now i can get 2 klipsch r-10sw for 175 each brand new in box IMO, if you want to "pressurize" that room to get that tactile feeling for impacting HT, then you really should go bigger. jason str
Any woodworking skills ? Much better can be had if you build it yourself. What is your budget ? The 2 Bic PL-200 will outperform 2 R-10SW but more $$$ The Dayton SUB series are a great value. LINK

LINK I can build my own box I'm very skilled with tools how would I get cheaper and are you talking about me building a box that's also going to have an amp also my budget is probably tops 800 I can get my hands on the Klipsch 15 inch for 600 brand new can I do better than that building myself Edited November 27, 2015 by dks5276
jason str
For $800 you could build a hell of a sub. Best bang for your buck would be a horn loaded THT or THTLP. Link Performance wise would equal multiple high performance 18" drivers but sound better and can be built for 4 or 5 hundred bucks. If you want something easier i would be happy to help you design a box & pick out a good driver or there are ready built flat packs available on the Diy sound pages. Link Be back later if you have more questions, headed out to a poker game to take everybody's spare change.

Scrappydue
Yeah. You can get better. 800 is a descent budget. Jason is big on the horns. I've only heard one tht-lp and I guess I was expecting a lot more. I was underwhelmed to say the least. You could build a couple Marty subs. Google them. You'll see. Basically big ported 18" subs. Tuned to 17hz I think. Couple of ultimax 18's in two of those with a nice pro amp and you will be in business.

Never heard anybody call them underwhelming before.
Scrappydue
Your definition of loud just may be different than mine. And hi my name is Steven. I have a friend who bought a tht-lp loaded with a 15" Dayton driver. It was built by a guy who builds horn subs of all types. It was the first horn I heard. I was underwhelmed. I've heard other horns since. Impressed with them. However. Tht with a budget 15 and a gjallerhorn on a clone amp isn't too fair of a comparison. Anyways that's just my thoughts. Love my little anarchy horn subs. They are sweet in a small room.

Love my little anarchy horn subs. They are sweet in a small room. You are right there is no comparison. The Gjallerhorn is a much larger subwoofer that costs more than 3 times the amount to build and nets you an extra 3 or 4 decibelles in output loaded with an 18" driver. Not to mention the THT runs fine on a smaller much less expensive plate amplifier.
Scrappydue
Jason do you know of something similar to databass where one can find max output and what not on the bill f designs?

jason str
Jason do you know of something similar to databass where one can find max output and what not on the bill f designs? Most designs have many driver options so max output will depend on what drivers were installed in a particular design. These bass horns will change efficiency and response depending on cabinet width, the wider the cabinet the flatter the frequency response becomes. There is too many combination options to just make a chart but there is tons of information on the BFM forum if you have questions on any one particular design. Paducah Home Theater
Your definition of loud just may be different than mine. This does make me curious about something. You tour half the country listening to probably dozens of different systems pretty much within a 6 hour radius including one that can hit over 140 db at the listening position and makes his dining room table dance violently in the other room. Lots of first hand knowledge for direct comparison. When the horn guys say a single 15" horn is louder than an entire wall of 18's, and downplay the 10-20 hz realm, I'm just curious as to how many walls of 18's they've heard. Regardless, I'm going to build one as soon as I get a table saw. Too much crap to deal with when all I have is a circular saw right now. Going to try it in the theater room but it will probably be my living room coffee table, would be perfect for that application. jason str
Been building & repairing cabinets for a long time for home & car subwoofers as well, i get paid no matter what I'm working on and trust me there are many easier to build models out there than a horn loaded one. Hey, i been to countless concerts, block parties here in Chicago is a common occurrence, nightclubs, excetera & heard many more home audio setups some of witch are friends here on the forum. I have 2 good ears, sound is not new to me. If horns were not the answer PWK would never have made a dime and we would not be discussing this on forum right now.
