I paid $900 for my v1 CF4. No regrets

In my OPINION CF-4 v1 in good shape should go for about $800.  However, the little bit of DATA I've collected shows them selling for an average of $1056.  I know one forum member who paid $1500 for his and he was happy to get them.

Hey hey hey, look what I found.  Not sure if it sold or not, so I sent a message.

Be sure to ask for real pictures and the serial number, which will give us the year.  I am suspicious of Sellers who use stock photos, but sometimes people are not real good at taking pics and posting them to the internet, so it's not necessarily a deal breaker.

I agree with the other sharp eyed Forumites who noticed the short 2.5 inch ports which identify those as NOT v1 which as a 5" long port.  They are either v2 or v3, you can't tell just from the ports.

What you are looking for is the first year of the CF-4 in 1994, commonly referred to as Version 1.  The reason being is Klipsch changed them for V2 and V3, and not for the better.  A V2 can probably be retro-graded to v1, but v3 changed the XO and the woofers and are the least desirable.  I have only heard the v1, everything else is what I've read.

And for kicks, what is the going sale price for the CF4 with the sloppy 12 in woofers? (guessing "insufficient data")

I saw that, funny.

(speaking over the shoulder of the guy with the ad who made the comment)  Neither the CF-3 nor CF-4 have sloppy woofers.  In fact, quite the opposite.  They move very little producing almost no distortion.  Ironically because of the minimal movement they do not produce a lot of bass.  Adding a 15" sub effectively makes them a 3-way which are incredibly accurate, especially while playing loud.

Believe it or not I don't track Epic prices, but I did jot down a few here and there.  The six CF-4's I've tracked average $1056 lo/high is $630/1500.

The six CF-3 average $608 lo/hi is $400/800.

When I sell my CF-3's, they'll probably be in the $650 range; even if they are version 3's.  No major modifications other than reattaching the back walls and some internal bracing, reworked crossovers, and extended ports.  They sound phenomenal and I doubt most people could tell the difference in hearing one over the other 23+ years later nor would they really care as much to hold out until that "holy grail" happened to not show up.  At least that's what dealers told me when they were selling them new back in the mid 90's.
