wuzzzer
My newly acquired black RS-7 speakers have the vinyl peeling in several places and some scratches on the tops. Has anyone ever completely removed the vinyl from speakers like this and then painted them? I would just do a basic black paint. They don't look terrible but my wife and I are moving to a new place that only has one living room so they'll be on 'display' more than they are currently. TasDom
It should peel off without much effort. My son has RS-3's and peeled off the vinyl. He left them like that as he likes the raw look. Personally I'd do them with Duratex if they were mine. @WakeJunkie converted a white pair to black but I don't know if he just painted over them or removed the vinyl. @Youthman probably knows since he gave them to him

WakeJunkie
The vinyl was coming off my RS-3’s it pealed off easily. I would give them a good sanding, mask off the faces, then paint away.

Deang
I use a heat gun, and keep the vinyl warm as I peel - it stops any adhesive from sticking to the surface. 1

YK Thom
If you don’t have a heat gun a hair dryer will also work. Just a wee bit slower. Keep it warm and pull off slow and steady. as far as paint goes I would recommend a melamine. I would also not take the possibility of a veneer off the table.
