Vavoline
I guess the best deal would be a '79 Yamaha CR-3020 Receiver, 160 WPC and top of the line in it's day. Built like a tank. Nice warm sound. Bought in '82 for $250, MSRP in "79 was $1500. A close second would be the JBL Pro woofer cabinets.
Trooper
How about an Adcom GFA535II amp for $60, Onkyo Integra tuner ($900 MSRP) for $40, Adcom GFP565 preamp for $100 or Onkyo Integra receiver for $1 (and the 50 cent part to fix it). Just some of the stuff I found at various Hamfests. There you know my secret. Just stay away from the ones I frequent.
jtkinney
HK Citation II amp for free. Needs a little work though. LaScalas for $700 K-Horns for $1400 I do much better with tools and Ham Radio equipment than audio/video equipment at garage sales.
Mighty Favog
Bought an H.H. Scott 830Z Analyzer for $80 (msrp $1000 in mid to late 70's) at work. A friend (who has no clue) gave my brother and I a Bogen DB230 tube amp.
anarchist
All in good fun although it is hard to always see it without visual cues. Besides, I knew he was going to use the "no value to me" argument. I, in fact, was going to mention it in my original post but wanted to see how he responded. In short, the best audio bargain is the one that we derive the most enjoyment from regardless of initial cost. With that being the case, my $100 Heresies, in mint condition I might add, are still my best bargain. My Eico tube amp runs a close second but since I spent more on an assortment of tubes to swap in and out than I did on the amp, it can not top the Heresies. kenratboy
Fini: Try anything a few MILES from downtown. Downtown is a fake world that is not really connected to Reno. I will be going to Carson City and looking there, basically, the farther you get from downtown, the better Reno gets.

CaptnBob
McIntosh 6100 amp, MR-74 tuner and Dual 1219 turntable for $30. I bought them at an estate auction. Someone had mounted the Macs in a 1940s era Magnavox console, which I guess no one but me thought to look inside of. Units were extremely dusty, but have cleaned up nicely.
