AnalOg
Does anyone here use Kazaa? I have been taking the recommended jazz pics mentioned on another thread, and down loading whats available. I'm just starting to get my feet wet with jazz, but I've heard some really cool stuff. Haven't burn them to cd yet, so I don't really know the quality of these Mp3's. Maybe I'm sounding out dated by mentioning this. I think this is a newer version of what I tried about a year ago. This is much easier to navigate and the download process is a breeze. If you haven't tried it, it's definitely worth the effort. Tom
justin_tx_16
You should be using Blubster, better, faster, just music, no viruses and no bugs. www.blubster.net Since it just searches music files, you don't have to worry about your kids getting on and trying to download a song such as Madonna - Erotica, or even something much more G or PG, and getting a pornographic picture or movie instead. This also limits the chances that you could pickup a virus or web-bug. You can set Blubster to work with McAfee to automatically scan incoming songs, you might have to have McAfee's control panel that was made for this, but I have not personally tried that out with Blubster 2.5 which JUST came out. I have been using Blubster 1.x and 2.X for a long time and I find and download 99/100 songs I search for. And while this may not be believeable... Since getting blubster I have bought more CD's than all the CD's prior to Blubster! Infact, just a few minutes ago I purchased every singe Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five CD, even though I have downloaded about 4 albums from Blubster. Why? Because I just love the music. I would not have done this had I not been able to test out the music first. Some artists are great but there are always some bad albums, this helps prevent that. Enoy Blubster, i have for a long time. If 2.5 is bloated and full of spyware (not typical of blubster) let me know. I have not used it yet, but I can send you 2.0 which I know is free of that stuff. j-malotky
Thanks for the tip Justin. Ive been using Kaaza, b4 that Morphious, and Napster for years. It is great to find new stuff and experiment. I also use it to download the crap my kids listen too. The last thing I want to do is buy a Brintey CD for the 1 or 2 songs my daughter likes. It's the same program without all the ads etc. Do a Google search & you can find it. If you have had Kazaa running for a while, you will also want ad-aware. It will get rid of all the spyware already on your computer. This really helps the system run better.
gtDark
I use Soulseek. I get kind of annoyed using KazaaLite because I can only download one song at a time; it stinks for downloading whole albums. With Soulseek you can download entire folders (albums) of mp3's. It has a lot of cool features too, for example if you are queued it will give you your number in line to download (i.e. how many other people are ahead of you in queue). It will also let you search as many strings as you want all at once (you can only search for one thing at a time with KazaaLite). Another big bonus is that it is very rare to find 128 bitrate files on the Soulseek network, most are 192; most users there are fans of real music and desire quality rips. Diggs
mIRC is by far the best, but for rare music I really miss Audiogalaxy. You could even find vinyl rips on there.
kjohnsonhp
Ditto JM's comments. I have a stack of CDs containing mp3s from the Napster days and I certainly use it for the kids. I don't like Kazaa and Morpheus went down hill so I'll try Justin's recommendation. Like others I use mp3 to sample before buying. The suggestions on this board are good examples. If I like the song then I'll go buy it on a higher fidelity format.
AnalOg
According to kazaa's ad, they claim there is no spyware on this version. The ads do suck! Thankx for the tips on the other sites, I'm going to give them a try. Tom
artto
I used Kazaa briefly to try & find some software. Its since been removed from my machine. Those *******s installed spyware on my machine along with their own software. While on their web site, I've never seen so many hacker alerts on such a short time. And it also tripped off the virus scanner/file repair feature on Norton Internet Security Professional twice (something thats never happened before). They can keep their crap! prodj101
I aggree diggs, audio galaxy had the really unheard of stuff that I wanted every once in awhile. normaly I used kazaa or napster, but if I needed something that they didn't have, audio galaxy almost always had it. Tony Boone
Kaaza Lite DOES NOT install spyware or adware on your system. Neither does WinMx. KaazaLite www.kazaalite.tw WinMX www.winmx.com Tony B.
formica
rf3iicrazy, don't hold your breath for the quality... it's definitely not a CD, even at 256. The data compression artefacts usually show up when there is a lot of dynamics in the music, esp recordings which didn't have a lot of sound compression to begin with. It does give a very good feeling of the music in any case and is definitely better than the old 4track cassette taped off the radio. I don't know if any of you like rare / independent bands, but I find the Kazaa network becoming more and more difficult to find what I'm looking for. May people download but few share. My ratio is about 10% to 20% which I can't find... and I wonder if Blubster can really do better? I like to use Swamp Terrorists as a test, as I can rarely find more than the same 3 or 4 songs. I've followed many others from newsgroups to napster to grokster (custom install without spyware) to kazaalite ... AudioGalaxie seemed to offer the best selection. It's a great way to sample before you buy... and if the album su¢ks... you know it first hand from having listened to it rather than having bought it.
