Going Out of Vinyl Sale!

They finally arrived today! Mdeneen, you have a pm.

Hey guys!

Hopefully you're not tired of me "hawking my wears" on this forum. I've really tried to tread lightly and only offer items that I think would be of interest to this group. If it's too much, just tell me to stop. Seriously. I don't intend to offend anyone.

I'm aware that many of you are vinyl lovers. I'm also sensitive to the fact that you all love a bargain just as much as the next guy (okay, maybe a little MORE than the next guy!).

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a turntable to see if I might enjoy vinyl. As it turns out, I love the sound but the time and interaction involved are a little too much for a guy with three small kids.

Meanwhile, I jumped headfirst into an auction on AudiogoN and picked up 183 LPs. My winning bid plus shipping brought my total to a little over $300. While waiting for these to arrive, I went out and picked up a few titles to try out. So I now have a total of 190 LPs that I'll sell for $225. That comes out to less than $1.20 per album. If you're local, it's a particularly sweet deal. If they need to be shipped within the Western region, it's still not bad. Figure 2 boxes at 55lbs each.

The turntable is a Goldring GR-1 which is a private labeled Rega P2 (complete with RB-250 tonearm and a Goldring Electra cartridge). I bought it brand new from a local dealer and used it for about 2 hours. It's complete with original packaging and in perfect condition. I paid $350 (lists for $425). Recipient of the Five Star award from What Hi-Fi? I will sell it for $295.

Here's a copy of the listing which shows titles, condition, etc.

180+ Classic Rock/Pop Records Collection for Auction !

The collecion includes 183 albums. Most of them are in very good condition (VG+...NM grading) with few exceptions. I tried to give the accurate and correct grading as much as possible. LP's and Jackets are 'visually' conservatively graded as follows.

Gee Gary how could you say that.. That is slanderous.

Dan, interesting collection. I would be interested but I have at least half of what you are offering.

What is the gear you are playing it with? Seems we have similiar tastes. Don't worry about Gary, I think he recently hit Forty and went over to the "Dark Side". You know, classical easy listening stuff. 9.gif If it weren't for DSOTM being one of his favorites I would start to worry.

If you guys want even more LP's let me go through what I brought back from my Texas visit. I brought home a bunch of LP's that I had stored at my mothers house. Some of the ones I have were purchased while in Germany for 3 years and were not available in the US. I am not good at album grading but can do a quick scan of each one. I have around 300 or more, I have a turntable but do not really use at all. Possibly by this weekend I can get some information posted on what I have. The albums that were mine were very well cared for, but some of the orpahns that were left there by my sisters and cousins did not get the same loving treatment.

"Classical easy listening stuff"???

Recently, Gary informed me that he had spent some time listening to Blue Cheer!

Do you think that was his "last hurrah"?

Rudy really knew his way around the recording studio, Allan9.gif Too many recording engineers never realized if you had four instruments going, you needed to be able to distinguish all four when played back.

I'm leaning toward running with CDs exclusively - Liam thinks LPs are bigger frisbees than CDs, and he gravitates to the larger size these days. He really loves the DuKanes with the 8417s proving irresistable. The darn things are too heavy to put on shelving above waist level, and this leaves them in Liam's prime construction zone.

I was KIDDING!!! I listen to everything. I commented to Allan the other day that after listening to Dexter Gordon's "Doin' Alright" which is an original Blue Note that he sent me, I put on the 200 gram DSOTM lp and it sounded like someone threw a blanket over my speakers. It's the truth. What I now do is either listen to the Blue Notes last or JUST listen to Blue Notes in a sitting.

I have many lps that I think sound fantastic and I listen to lots of different music. Blue Cheer was a one-time event though.9.gif Thanks Dave!

You also? I was playing several lps and then put on the DSOM lp and the bass seemed muddy and muffled! I thought it was just me!

BTW, I will be a backup buyer for the "collection" or the new collection that is being thought about. I am in the 92570 zip code if that is any help9.gif

Classical= easy listening. In a sense that I think it is listened at normal volume levels and soes not draw one to turn it up a notch. 9.gif

Ok, now I have to hear for myself and I know it will cost me but please reccomend a bluenote record that I can afford and will allow me to hear the difference please. Also were to get the album.

Bill,

I actually like to listen to classical at fairly high volumes. The quieter passages are difficult to appreciate otherwise.

Good luck finding a BN in good shape without spending a ton. I only have 6 or 7 originals. You have to search ebay unfortunately and bid high. Check out some of Allan's prior posts then look on ebay. I'll be glad to give you my opinion but I'm still a rookie at this also. One thing you can do is get a BN reissue of Sonny Clark's "Cool Struttin'." Not as good as the originals but very good nonetheless. It's a much cheaper way to get an idea of good they can sound. I bought mine for about $32 at Tower Records.

I will start with the one you siggest Gary. I have not had a chance yet to listen to too many of my albums yet. But I do have one that blows all the others away, so it must be a better recording. The firast thing I notice is the volume is louder right out of the gate, is that an example of a better recording?
