Colin
Art Dudley, now of venerable Stereophile magazine and whose opinion on things like horns & tubes I respect in no way measurable, lists the ten greatest amplifiers of all that he listened to repeatedly, on page 51 of the September 2004 issue: 1. Naim Nap250 (oldest) 2. Fi 2A3 (sets the bar for SETs) 3. Conrd-Johnson Priemer One (first real superamp) 4. EAR 509 (me-pretty too!) 5. Audio Note Ongaku (terrifying level of purity) 6. Rankin (Wavelength) Baby Ongaku (DIY 2A3?) 7. Quad II (Ive heard these with classic Klipsch corner Khorns- as powerful as they look!) 8. Krell KSA-50 (80s) 9. DNM PA3S 10. Lamm ML2.
BEC
How about a picture of each amp. I can supply the picture of the Quad II. Bob
Colin
Quad amps and speakers?
Deang
Hopefully by now, you have those on your Lascalas.
BEC
The Quad ESLs are gone now. The amps remain and are powering a pair of Lascalas. I bought the ESLs and Quad II amps together to get the amps. The ESL's went out on eBay. Bob
Deang
Oh my gosh, the Flame Linear made your list. LOL.

D0N
I can't come up with 10 but I can come up with 5 that I have used personally... In no particular order they are... adcom gfa555 hafler dh500 pioneer sa9500 genesis stealth dynaco st400 All used with 1979 klipschorns
Dale W
That list is totaly useless unless we know what speakers he prefures , all those above mentioned amps could sound like crap or like gold depending on ones music and speaker choice. The audio hobby is all about building a complete " COMPONENT MATCHING " system that matchs your listening habits and enviroment . All the this is better then that comparisions are BS and serves no usefull purpose to me. A $50 radio shack reciever can and will sound like a million bucks on a pair of klipschorns compared to a $50,000.00 krell run through a pair of $35 candle speakers. NOSValves
1) VRD 2) VRD 3) VRD 4) VRD 5) VRD 6) VRD 7) VRD 8) VRD 9) VRD 10) VRD
NOSValves
Ahhh just kidding I was jealous because no one put me on the list
space_cowboy
For the price, what about the ASL Wave 8's? I know it's entry level stuff, but they make my LaScalas sing. Oh well, just my nickels worth. Mark Edit: Colin, you even praised these, so think about that.
Dflip
Craig, nice to see you got the spelling correct.
Piranha
What are the top ten SS amps currently (let's say in the last 10 years)?
KeesGuy
Here's an idea: Since Art didn't do a greatest or most important INTEGRATED amplifier list, perhaps we should make one for him. Sure, well, OK then, I'll start - 1. NAD 3020
Audio Flynn
This one is strrange. I like Mark's list. Art Dudley's list is bizarre. i have never heard the NAIM; but would add it to the list based upon length of reputation. Some in order of the age I heard them -Phase linear -HK 730 -Scott LK-48 (NOS Valves) -Scott 296 -Dynaco Mark -VRDs
Schurkey
And no-one so far has nominated either the Aragon 4004 or 8008? What a shame.
jt1stcav
All I know is I won't see any BEZ tube amps on any of those lists. How about the venerable McIntosh MC250, one of their first SS amps? That's a clear winner in my book!
edwinr
Regretfully, I have never heard any of these magnificent amplifiers. The closest I have come is the new Quad 2/40's - which were very nice!
Piranha
Nothing wrong with the Quad 40's. Those are very very nice monos.
