Jeff Matthews
Okay, time for a hint. Drop a hint about every 1/2 hour or so when you can.
Olorin
If you load sixteen tons, you'll get the original artist.
Jeff Matthews
If you load sixteen tons, you'll get the original artist. Don't know the tune, but looks like something Tenessee Ernie Williams did. Okay, who knows what song TEW did that was copied by a classic rock band? Olorin
You're close with the artist, but not quite on the money, and the cover band is more contemporary than classic.
Jeff Matthews
Looks like the tune was done by a band who also did an old Merle Travis tune.
Olorin
Not that I know of, but they do regularly cover a Bob Dylan song that most people know better as a Jimi Hendrix song, and that cover appears on the same concert CD and DVD as the Johnny Cash tune referenced here . . . . audiobliss69
Seems as thought I've heard those lyrics before. I'll be interested to see what the song is. So lemme get the rules straigh. If someone gives these lyrics, and I think it is this song, can I look up the lyrics to this song and see if the given lyrics are in fact in the song I think it is? And will that disqualify me? I think it shouldn't, as you're still going on memory and experience when you're trying to decide what the song is.
Olorin
Oops. I re-read the first post. It's supposed to be classic rock stuff, and since neither Dave Matthews nor Johnny Cash is generally considered that, I'll give it up and post a new new one. It's called "Long Black Veil," first recorded by Johnny Cash in 1964 and very well done by The Dave Matthews Band on their "Listener Supported" album. Maybe this is closer to what you have in mind: Now I've gained some understanding of the lonely world that we see Things that I once dreamed of have become reality Those walls that still surround me still contain the same old me Just one more who's searching for the world that ought to be
Jeff Matthews
You can look up a song and check the lyrics. You cannot look up the lyrics to find the song.
Jeff Matthews
Plus ca Change, Plus C'est La Mem Chose... The more that things change, the more they stay the same. by Rush I'll post the new challenge in a second.
Olorin
Close. The song title is "Circumstances." You gave more lyrics. []
Jeff Matthews
You're right, but I was able to identify the song with certainty. I fashioned this rule to keep people from disputing answers when it's clear the person knows the tune. Good to know the name, though. I knew it was the first tune on Hemispheres. Lyrics: "Treating people just like pawns in chess. Wait 'till their judgement day comes, yeah!" Name that tune!
Jeff Matthews
Come on. This one's easy!
audiobliss69
Hehe...you pokin' a finger in my rib? [] I'm quite confident I've never heard it. And so, I'll either look it up with the lyrics and disqualify myself, or just wait 'til someone figures it out.

Olorin
Chicago, 25 or 6 to 4. There was a young girl, whos heart was a frown cause she was crippled for life, And she couldnt speak a sound And she wished and prayed she could stop living, So she decided to die.
