jeffgeorge
I have heard a lot of talk on this BB about ALK crossovers. Are they an outboard crossover? If so, can they be used with any Klipsch, or is it more for the Heritage line? What are the benefits? Al Klappenberger
Jeff.. My networks are for the Klipschorn, Belle Klipsch, La Scala. I also have a design for the Cornwall which can be modified for the Heresy. They will NOT work on any other models. They all go inside the speaker, right in place of the "stock" networks. If you want to mount them outside the speaker, you can, but I don't recommend it. Al K.
eq_shadimar
Al could you re-post the URL to your site that talks about your crossovers? Chris Robinson
BB Yeah, I know it's a lot of jing, but: (1) they'll turn wonderful Cornwalls into orgasmic Cornwalls that moan in rounded tones, and (2) look at what's going into them ... those caps (ooooh) and those coils (ooooooooh) ... Seriously, they tamed my Cornwalls (which were wonderful but even more so now (imagine your children in "The Sound of Music")) ... a definite investment but they squeeze the very best out of those beautiful boxes. ------------------ If you don't like what is coming out, you wouldn't like what is going in." -PWK- --------------------- Klipsch 1968 ALK Cornwall "II"s (LF/RF) ALK Belle Klipsch (Center) Klipsch Heresy (RR/LR) Klipsch KSW-12 sub Sonic Frontiers Anthem AMP1 (driving Cornwalls) Sonic Frontiers Anthem AMP1 (driving Heresy's) Denon AVR-4800 Toshiba SD-3109 DVD
Dave in Nashville
Bigbusa, I have to agree with Chris Robinson. I've had ALK crossovers in my '77 LaScalas for several months and have yet to feel the least bit of regret about their price. If I had Al's expertise and skill, I would charge more. Take the plunge.....you won't regret it. Your ears will thank you. Dave in Nashville
Al Klappenberger
BigBusa, Yep.. I can understand objections to the price. That's one of the reasons why I post the design on my web page so anybody can build them for themself. It will save you quite a bit. I don't mind. Al K. jeffgeorge
Thanks for the reponses. Al, let us know if you develop a design for the reference series in the future.
Colin
in all fairness to AL, that ridiculously high price seems to be right in line with other, high-quality, custom-made, by hand, especially for a small market, crossovers - as soon as I can stop buying car repairs, I am getting a a pair ... ------------------ Cornwalls & Klipsch subs; leather couch & feet up; lights out & tubes glowing! johns02
I built Al's crossover exactly per specification and they sound wonderful. Unless you enjoy spending hours on a soldering iron, tinning "Litz" wire, ordering parts, and dealing with backorders spend the extra money and buy Al's already built. Myself, I like the challenge and the hobby.

mike stehr
Source the parts for a ALK crossover. That comes out to a pretty penny by it's self. That little extra money is for good reason, considering his time, and labor. Also it's designed ready to hook up. But I agree with Johns02, I like the hobby of DIY. The Chorus/Forte I and II models would be a good one for Crossover redesign AL. Too bad you couldn't get Klipsch to donate cabinets of these certain lines for X-over filter design research. THANX! jim-analog
Greetings, I'm really supprised to see comments regarding Als' xovers described as _expensive_ ! If anyone trys to figure out the time involved in doing a design, de-bugging it, sourcing parts, providing answers to all questions AND doing a meticulous build job and STILL thinks they're expensive?! In addition, for the designer to make detailed parts lists, layouts and schematics available to everyone, he should be charging quite a bit MORE for them. I think some folks have been too long conditioned by $99 made in China VCRs to have any understanding of what goes into a low production, high quality, made in USA product. Regards, Jim www.analogbros.com PS...........yes, I bought a pair. ------------------ Jim@analogbros.com
Karen
Hi All, Can anyone describe to me in more detail their interpretation of the audible changes Al's crossovers make? I'd like to get a sense of the changes that can be expected on Klipschorns specifically. Maybe Al could help me out here.
