ALK crossovers?

I have heard a lot of talk on this BB about ALK crossovers. Are they an outboard crossover? If so, can they be used with any Klipsch, or is it more for the Heritage line? What are the benefits? Thanks in advance...

Jeff..

My networks are for the Klipschorn, Belle Klipsch, La Scala. I also have a design for the Cornwall which can be modified for the Heresy. They will NOT work on any other models. They all go inside the speaker, right in place of the "stock" networks. If you want to mount them outside the speaker, you can, but I don't recommend it.

BB Yeah, I know it's a lot of jing, but:

(1) they'll turn wonderful Cornwalls into orgasmic Cornwalls that moan in rounded tones, and

(2) look at what's going into them ... those caps (ooooh) and those coils (ooooooooh) ...

Seriously, they tamed my Cornwalls (which were wonderful but even more so now (imagine your children in "The Sound of Music")) ... a definite investment but they squeeze the very best out of those beautiful boxes.

in all fairness to AL, that ridiculously high price seems to be right in line with other, high-quality, custom-made, by hand, especially for a small market, crossovers - as soon as I can stop buying car repairs, I am getting a a pair ...

I built Al's crossover exactly per specification and they sound wonderful. Unless you enjoy spending hours on a soldering iron, tinning "Litz" wire, ordering parts, and dealing with backorders spend the extra money and buy Al's already built. Myself, I like the challenge and the hobby.

Source the parts for a ALK crossover.

That comes out to a pretty penny by it's self.

That little extra money is for good reason,

considering his time, and labor.

Also it's designed ready to hook up.

But I agree with Johns02, I like the hobby of DIY.

The Chorus/Forte I and II models would be

a good one for Crossover redesign AL.

Too bad you couldn't get Klipsch to donate

cabinets of these certain lines for

X-over filter design research.

Greetings,

I'm really supprised to see comments regarding Als' xovers described as _expensive_ ! If anyone trys to figure out the time involved in doing a design, de-bugging it, sourcing parts, providing answers to all questions AND doing a meticulous build job and STILL thinks they're expensive?!

In addition, for the designer to make detailed parts lists, layouts and schematics available to everyone, he should be charging quite a bit MORE for them.

I think some folks have been too long conditioned by $99 made in China VCRs to have any understanding of what goes into a low production, high quality, made in USA product.
