DoubleJ
Hi: A few months ago, I created this thread below: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/780897.aspx (I got excellent advice from a lot of people..Thank You very much) I have taken advantage of Joe's recent LP fire sale and now it is time to get a TT. I currently have a cheap Kenwood KD-XX TT but it has seen its better days. I have looked at buying new (Pro-ject, Thorens) but the starting price on those are around $350 on up so I want to explore the used market. I don't trust the stuff on eBay so I would like to purchase one from a forum member so that way I know it is working before it gets into my hands. The only requirements that I require are the following: 1. That it can be driven by a Scott 299c and 2. Price range up to $250. The unit doesn't have fancy for I wouldn't know the difference in sound between a $20 cart and tone arm from a $10,000 one. If I'm way off base on my budget numbers, please tell me so. I will then revisit going with new unit. This is going to be an entry level system so I can learn how to operate and maintain a TT as well as learning how to care for and handle LP's. Thank you in advance for all your help and support. JJ
thebes
Get this one quick. If the cart is in good shape it's asteal. Needless to say the carts are hard to replace but thiswill sound great and leave you dough for more records or an upgradedown the line. Hurry! http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1176069569

DoubleJ
Is used Ok, or are we talking new..... Speakerfritz: Yes, used is what I'm looking for but if my budget is out of whack, I may have to re-examine going new. Thanks JJ
pauln
If your plan is to buy a practice table now to learn so then you will be ready to operate and maintain a table like a Thorens (a traditional style table/arm/cartridge) you might be disappointed to find that the B&O has no adjustments except vertical tracking force. All the variables are engineered into the design and you won't learn anything about all the angle adjustments and geometry required to match, mount, align, and balance a traditional design. Also, I would be wary of used B&O linear tangential tracking tables - the old electronics control all arm movements and if that goes out you have a big problem. I prefer their non-electronic radial tracking players for their simplicity and reliability.
Klipsched with Yamahas
Yeah, B&O's aren't that expensive, but the cartridge prices are a KILLER. On the bright side, I BELIEVE mine is still in pretty good shape for being 24 years old. The Tangential's aren't USER FRIENDLY for DIY IMO If I had it to do over, probably seek a Thorens! joshnich
You cannot go wrong with the table that Mark is offering up. Its a very nice entry level table from a most reliable source. Josh
Guest " "
Pioneer PL-530, with original box. I attached the manual I got from the below web http://www.vinylengine.com/library_model.php?make=Pioneer&selected_model=PL-530 This is a 1977 vintage direct drive with some extra features such as strobe calibration, etc. Check the manual out. I paid 150 for it a few months ago and played 1 record on it. Cartidge choices are the original cartridge and needle that came with it which works but I have not usage history on the needle at no extra charge. I also have a new Pickering XV-1200E cartridge (same make as othron) which I paid 66 bucks for.....used to play the one record. If you want the Pickering cartridge, add the 66 bucks. I'm going to list this on ebay at some point over the next few weeks, let me know if you are intrested in it. Not a problem if the forum jumps in and hammers this deal...I know how every one feels about off shore stuff, but the pioneer PL-530 is an all time classic. www.STADTAUS.com_pioneer_pl-530.pdf
Allan Songer
This one is a no-fuss table. And the price is close: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1173676912

Moderators Travis In Austin Posted February 9, 2007 Moderators Share Posted February 9, 2007 DoubleJ, As someone else mentioned, you cannot go wrong with that MMF-2 that MDeneen (Mark) said he would let go for 250 including shipping. Great starter table. If you wanted to ease into it a bit slower I am sure that Pioneer would be good too, but I am not very familiar with them. I have a Linn Axis I almost forgot about until this post that I am now going to be selling but it is going to be a tad above your budget. Hope you find something soon so that you can get to listening to that vinyl and we can hear your thoughts. Travis
sheltie dave
Double J, I have a Kenwood KD 1600 with a Shure SM-97?(a loaner from Carl) that he wants to sell, and the price would be less than your top limit. Carl could tell you the exact info, price, payment, and any other questions. If you live near Chicago in southern Wisconsin, I'm driving back up tomorrow evening, and I could bring it with me. I'm staying just outside Bolingbrook in LeMont, a two minute jaunt off of I55, right by Argonne National Labs. This would avoid the worry that gorillas would decimate a good table- and there are some very good offers already posted.
Guest " "
The unit I have is in better condition than this one which went for 269 on ebay. When I offered it up to the forum at 150, it was with offerng a discount to forum memebrs in mind rather than placing it in the same class as K-mart changers. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-PIONEER-PL-530-TURNABLE-DIRECT-DRIVE-PLAYER_W0QQitemZ250079210579QQihZ015QQcategoryZ64625QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250079210579 Beaters with issues canbe had for less if you like to tinker. There were a few decent looking ones for 125 or less and a few parts specials for 50 bucks or less.
DoubleJ
Thank You everyone that offered up a TT for sale and also to all those who gave great advice. The decision was tough and I did a lot of research and I have decided to go with Mark's Music Hall 2.1 as it looks like it will satify my needs for awhile. Speakerfritz: You offer was way more than fair but the age and all the extra buttons had me a little worried in case a repair was needed. Once again, Thank you everyone!!!! DoubleJ
Speakerfritz: Yes. Mark's price was may more than fair..And your offering was as well. According to Mark, there are not very many hours on it and buying it from a reputable seller makes the deal even sweeter. kind of like a Blueberry..Hmmm!?!!? Now it's time to spend a bundle at www.needledoctor.com. Curses to them being sooo close to me.
