Groomlakearea51
DEAN IS APPROACHING JAMAICA, AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL SLOW DOWN JUST A BIT, LOSE SOME STRENGTH WITH EYEWALL REPLACEMENT. OUTER BANDS WILL BE HITTING KINGSTON IN ABOUT AN HOUR. GOOD SOURCE FOR CONSTANT "PICTURE" UPDATES (IF YOU CAN PUT UP WITH THE OVERLY BRIGHT AND CHEERFUL TALKING HEADS AS THEY GET SOOO EXCITED OVER AN EVENT...) IS THE WEATHER CHANNEL. THE NHC OFFSHORE WATERS FORECAST INDICATES HIGHEST WINDS 130 KT GUSTS TO 160 KT. SEAS 12 FT OF GREATER IN AREA OF TROPICAL STORM FORCE OR GREATER WINDS. HIGHEST SEAS 52 FT. WHAT A RIDE THAT WOULD BE!! I'VE BEEN OUT IN 12-16' SEAS IN A 15 FOOT ZODIAC AND IT WAS NO FUN... AT ALL....
Groomlakearea51
THIS IS THE SOURCE IMAGERY THAT THE WEATHER CHANNEL USES FROM THE MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER. IT'S FROM THE GOES SATELLITE. IT'S AN INFRARED IMAGE. THE COLDER THE TEMPERATURE, THE MORE RED IT BECOMES. WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT ARE THE COLD CELL TOPS IN THE BANDS. Moderators dtel's wife Posted August 19, 2007 Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2007 Groomlake, I agree we should all hope for a "slowing and eye wall replacement" for Jamaica....it's about the only hope they have at this point. I would not want to be in Jamaica or anywhere near Hurricane Dean for that matter.
Moderators dtel's wife Posted August 19, 2007 Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2007 I love those colorful satellite pictures....you can actually see the energy from the warm waters being sucked into Dean! Look along the coastline just below Dean....that water is really warm right now and it is just being sucked into the center of the hurricane. Real cool looking.....I can say that since it's headed the other way now![]
