many people don't realize how much work a cruise ship staff does...long hours and pretty much everyday for their contract. She has a psyc degree, she is a babysitter on the boat along with 6 other girls. Kids ages average 10, works a couple hrs a day. Cry me a river, she has it MADE. That position seems to have it much better than the food/drink servers for instance. I was talking to one of them on my cruise and she said that she worked seven days a week. She was from Russia and said she cried when she first started...after working all day for an entire month, her pay check was in the $500s Cruise Line figures they're going to make up the difference from passenger's tips. When i retired from the Coast Guard, i had a job offer from a Cruise Line...former boss is Senior VP. Turned it down due to heavy worldwide travel. I would have been meeting the fleet wherever in the world they were when the ship's inspection was due. Ride the ship a few days, while conducting the environmental compliance audit -- then fly on to the next one. Would have been a decent paycheck, and being part of the corporate staff wouldn't have had to kill myself like many of the ship staff; but, all that travel wasn't going to jive with what was going on in my life at the time.4 points

How time flies. Hard to believe it has been over three years since his last appearance on the forum. After the forum conversion I was reading old threads and noticed his avatar was gone. I then was able to track this copy of the avatar on the wayback machine. Maybe we can get him to restore it in its rightful place as his avatar again.4 points

Mornin yet again gang Dickinsons tasting mighty fine, energy level rising, ebay shopping in order. 100+ predicted today, i will choose the "Tweeker" hours during this heat wave. In the 60s my Dad refered to me as his little tweeker, there was respect to that then, he would take me when visiting his bud's and i would fix their TV, or Antenna(s).4 points

Took a few extra shots of the Atmos Elevation Add-on Speakers. I finally hooked them up last night & re-ran Audyssey. DIdn't have much time to do specific A/B comparison with the 44-DA's—but I can already tell the horn loaded tweeter is more distinct & crisp. I even played around with bass management (setting my F/L/C to Large, etc.) just to separate the lows/mids & high range throughout the sound stage & the RP-140's effectively elevated the sound above. Still need to play a bit with set up & watch some Atmos authored discs. Plus my amp just arrived today, so adding the rear pair of RP-140SA's will really fill the room (probably the most siginifcant difference with my existing set-up.2 points

Post a video, a photo, or just tell us which is your most favorite performance of all time (and i mean song--not entire show) … for me, this was much easier than I imagined it would be. I’ve seen a lot of them and a lot of good ones; but, my favorite is one that sadly I wasn’t at …yet it remains head & shoulders over the rest …a local band from a few miles from where i was born--a lot of love for the lady across the Bay. Has to be a forum member that was here--if so, please speak up. I want to hear about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2yQLXTuctA2 points

Yes, I'm glad there an option with Dolby Atmos. Positioning is important for those wanting to use in-ceiling speakers, and the right amount of toe-in on those using reflecting speakers. I have heard it both ways (in-ceiling and reflecting). For me the in-ceiling speakers gave slightly more pinpoint imaging, but it's not drastic enough that you lose anything by using the refective approach. To that point I would add I found it more "distracting" than the diffused sound of up-firing speakers. Both options sound great in their own way.2 points

No matter the Audio quality that is uploaded to youtube, they broadcast out in an MP4 AAC 126kbps. Once the video is popular enough they will also broadcast 165kbps WebM file. Changing the video quality stream will not enhance the audio, the audio is the same for all video formats.2 points

Cheers Guys. Ill try to get on more often but my audio passion is on hold due to financial reasons, and my wife wanted her living room back.2 points

Was afraid of that. We both could use some "sweet summer rain" that pours & actually cools things down; instead of just making the humidity worse... Yes, I have to get a smoked one for sure...raining between sunshine here...2 points

Duke Spinner even had an amplifier named after him during the height of his posting on the forum. The Juicy Music modified Crown D-45 that Carl currently owns was actually dubbed "The Duke." For those that may not have ventured over to the coffee thread, here is the talking head avatar that has been missing since the forum conversion. How time flies. In case you ever wondered what 10 copper 10's in the same room looked like, you're welcome to come over. In other news, black carpet sometimes looks purple.2 points

I guess over the years you can say I've been fond of the copper myself. At one time I had a total of 44 setup in my home. 22 here 14 here and 8 here2 points

Does the sand have any vibration damping properties? I've heard of people putting sand in the bottom of tall tower speakers, but I always thought that was for ballast. +++ Edit: It would help if I could read. (no West Virginia jokes accepted at this time please, besides, I've already heard them all) Couple of 500watt amps would do the job too2 points
