  1. While hooking things up (audio and video cables, etc...) I had left the darn thing turned on. When I called to inquire, I actually talked to someone (yes, a human!) who suggested by the sounds I was hearing, I fried an integral part inside the amp. After getting a replacement shipped to me, I ordered a 990 preamp so I could hook the 2 together via balanced cables. Everything is working swell now. No hum, just LOUD clean power going tot he speakers.
  2. Copied and pasted from Crutchfield; "plays HD DVD high-definition discs (selectable 720p/1080i/1080p output available through HDMI output; 720p/1080i output also available via component video on discs lacking ICT copy-protection)" If I hook up a HD DVD player to my Sony XBR1 (1080i max input) what dos the ICT copy-protection have to do with playback via component cables?
  3. I would go with the RS7s. They are perfectly matched. The RF7s (as well as the other R7 speakers) like good, clean power. I have an Outlaw 7700 amp (200 watts into all 7 channels). The RF7s really are alive with this amp. Any other good quality amp will work as well (Rotel, Adcom, Krell, NAD, etc....). If you go with an AV Preamp, that will be the sound processor. It will decode Dolby Digital, DTS, and provide the controls for the material going to the amp. There are many good quality pre amps out there, and everyone has their personal favorites. Perhaps a trip to a brick and mortar AV store to look and listen at what is out there should be planned.
  4. Any high current, quality amp will improve the sound. I recently aquired an Outlaw 7700 amp, which is rated at 200 watts into all 7 channels simultaneously with very little distortion ( I forget thactual number) and was quite impressed. My next move is to send the crossovers to Dean to hav them redone. Bottom line, all the research I did led me to feed my RF7s (and RC& and RS7s ) more power. More quality, clean power to be precise.
  5. Good luck dude, I wish I had the room for a set of these. Maybe when I retire my wife will let me build a 30' x 40' "man cave" with a pool table, a big friggin TV, a small bar, a couch and a pair of K Horns!
  6. The very first set of speakers I bought were Kg4s back in 1985. I still have them. When I first heard them I was absolutley floored at how great they sounded. I still think they are a great speaker. These are frequently on craigslist nationwide, I believe, for very reasonable prices. My brother liked them so much, he had to go bigger and better than me and bought a pair of Chorus II 's. I can still remember playing my Phil Collins ...But Seriously CD on them. WOW! Anyway, KG4s are a very fine speaker.
  7. I have an Outlaw 7700 amp. It is rated 200 WPC continuous into 7 channels. It ROCKS over my Denon 3803, rated at 110 WPC. Loud, hard, in your face watts really make my RF7s kicks. They also have a smaller amp, the 7125, rated at 125 WPC, all 7 channels driven. They have a matching 990 pre-pro that is very nice. Together, they are around $2000. Take a look at www.outlawaudio.com I believe each carries a 5 year transferrable warranty. Good luck!
  8. I recently aquired an Outlaw 7700. After spending hours to locate the dreaded "ground loop" buzz, I am now fable to fully enjoy it. The darn thing weighs almost 100 pounds! But boy does it ROCK THE HOUSE with my RF7s. I had been using my Denon 3803 for power (rated at 110 x 7). The Outlaw laughs at the Denons putrid power. Great sounding CDs sound spectacular, and movies do sound better. I have not auditioned other amps, but I am very happy with the 7700.
  9. WOW! That is really neat. You sure got a sweet deal. Looks like a Sony KDS-RXBR LCoS TV. Have you been bitten by the green blob yet?
  10. I have the RF7s, and they are fantastic. With a room that big, and if you like action type movies (Star Wars, LOTR, Black Hawk Down, etc...) you want loud, kick your daddy in the face type impact. If you are only going to watch "chick flick" type moviws, then the 62s might be better. But $999 for a pair of RF7s is pretty darn good. Get the RF7s!
  11. Lets get this straight; If I plug my high power Outlaw 7700 (7 x 200 watts) into my Monster Power 2600, the amp wll not get the power it needs? So I should just plug it into the wall directly? I have the 2600 plugged into a 20 amp circuit, even though the 2600 is only rated at 15 amps.
  12. I had heard the front 3 should be the same, and the 2 surrounds should be the same. That is what I did before I sheetrocked everything inside the walls.
  13. Billy, I have the RC7 on a TV stand that I bought at Best Buy. Its a wall mount TV stand that is secured by 4 or 5 lag screws. The stand is built to hold up to 100 pounds, more than strong enough for the RC7. It works great, and only costs $60.99. Here is a link; http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6780539&productCategoryId=cat08093&type=product&cmp=++&id=1089890283604 Good luck!
  14. Wuzzer, I did not originally notice that you are in Minnesota as well. I got my channel master from a tv/av outfit on Energy park drive in St Paul, just a little east of 280. If you check the channel master website for local retailers, it will list the place. The one I have works outdoors as well as indoors, but just to be sure, before you buy ask them if it will work.
  15. For those with somewhat large TVs (Plasma, LCD, DLP) with amps, multiple subs, etc, how many circuits (and amp ratings) are you running to power your gear?
  16. I bought a Channel Master 4221 and I have it installed in my garage attic. It works great. I live about 23 miles as the crow flies from 3 of the 4 major antennas, and about 25 miles (and about 60 degrees to the side) from the other. I believe I paid about $40 for it, retail. It is rectangular shaped, and can be mounted outside as well. The OTA HD broadcasts I get are fantastic.
  17. I have this antenna; http://www.pctinternational.com/channelmaster/0612/4221.html It is a Channel Master 4221, mounted in my garage attic, and I get crystal clear HD reception on all major OTA networks. I highly recommend this antenna!
  18. Can someone post a fw pictures of this stuff? How it looks off of the speakers as well as on?
  19. I have the Powerbar 2100, which has an 8 foot cord. I would like to replace it with a 12-15 footer. Anyone ever done this, or give a suggestion as to what type of cord I need? I would like to run my Sony XBR TV (350 watts) and my Sub (ef Tech 250 watts) on a circuit that would also be used by a vacuum cleaner. Right now, these 2 items are on my dedicated 20 amp circuit for my stere gear, but i just bought an Outlaw 7700 amp (7 x 200 wpc) and to make sure I get the juice I need to the amp, I want to take the TV and Sub off of that circuit. If I am watching TV, and my wife (hee hee) decides to vacuum, will that be too much juice on a 15 amp circuit? I know my daughter kills her circuit if she has her little 20 inch TV, radio, and a few other things, and she turns the vacuum on (her room and my sons room share the circuit). Thanks.
  20. I am in the market fo an amp as well. Check my recebt post titled "Pending Outlaw Amp" or similiar. Anyway, I did see pictures of the ATI (at the ATI web site) and the insides look identical. HOWEVER, the ATI is rated stable to 4 ohm. The Outlaw 7200 and 7700 are both stable to 2 ohm. Many responses to RF7 questions state that the RF7 does go down to aroud 2.6 ohm, if I remember correctly. So, while the ATI looks great, and you could even get a 300 x 7 watt amp from them, I am going with the Outlaw 7700. And yes, the Outlaw 7700 is less cash.
  21. Dean, I cant tell if I am sending out PMs or not, but I am interested in getting my Reference 7 systems crossovers reworked; I have a pair of RF7s, pair of RS7s, and a RC7. You can PM me with benefits, info, prices, etc, or post here. I see many people raving on the improvements. Thanks!
  22. Regarding the Outlaw 7500; Are you still not very impressed? I am considering the 7700 (200 wpc x 7) or maybe just a 7125 (7 X 125 WPC) for my set up. I have the RF7 setup as well, and will be installing a set of CDT 5800-c for rear surrounds...
  23. The 7500 is only a 5 channel. Did you mean the 7700 or 7200 (both are 7 x 200 wpc). I see you have the 7500 with the RF7s, and I assume you really like it?
  24. I think I have decided on the Outlaw 7700 (200 wpc x 7). My next minor concer is having the CDT 5800-C for use as rear surrounds; Power rating is 50 watts conitinuous, 200 max. I know the saying "more power is better" cuz its cleaner. But man, this would be quite a lot of power, even though I can turn the gain down a tad using my Denon...... Thoughts?
  25. I can't tell you anything about NAD except that I really liked the stuff they were putting out in the 80s. As far as the circuit, add up all the rated wattages of your equipment, divide by your line voltage, (120V I'm assuming), and see what you have for current. For myself, I'd prefer to see < 75% of what the fuse/circuit breaker says. But a circuit breaker should hold 100% rated current all day every day. But that's not necessarily a good thing, depending on the state of your wiring. Yes, I am on 120 volts. And I am narrowed down to 3 amps. In order of current preference; 1-Outlaw 7700 (7 x 200 WPC) 1800 watts max 2-NAD T973 (140 x 7 WPC) No wattage spec given 3-Outlaw 7 x 125 (127 x 7 WPC) 1440 watts needed The 200 watts continous from the 7700 would sure be nice on my RF7s (BTW, why are they so "power hungry" with their sensitivity rating so high?), but the others are considerably less cash. Regarding the Outlaw 7125, I am not sure I would notice that much difference from my Denon 3803 rated power of 110 WPC. Or is there? My Sony XBR TV is about 350 watts when running, All of my stereo gear cant be a whle lot (DirecTV HD Tivo, DVD player, Denon AVR 3803 as a pre-pro, Monster Cable power conditioner). The ony thing I can find on the Denon for power consumption is 7.0 amps, but its rated power is 7 x 110. I am using a dedicated 20 amp curcuit. So, lets go on the high side and use 1800 watts for an Amp, 350 for the TV, 250 watts for my Def Tech sub, thats 2400 watts, not includign the Denon 3803 as a pre-pro, DVD player, PS2 or Wii.... Am I getting too high for a 20 amp circuit? It will sure be tough to add another circuit.... PS I do plan on adding a set of CDT5800s for my rear surrounds when I add the amp.
