  1. Go back to CC and look at the Hitachi 51S500 I just got a 57S500 and think it is great. I bought a Samsung DLP5065 from BB but took it back. All their Mitsu"s are the low end "Silver" series. The S500 are new models with many great features and picture. I am PM'ing you with more info. Rick
  2. All of this information is very nice, but CDs are and will continue to be "harsher" than vinyl for other reasons as well. One is the law of physics. The moving mass of the stylus/magnet/coil assembly takes time to accelerate when tracking the groove both in cutting and playback. This has the effect of softening the "attack" of the recorded instrument. The other is electrical. A moving magnet in a coil or moving coil in a magnet produces a softening of the attack. A vinyl recording can not play back a very good square wave, a cd can. A tube amp will ramp up the front edge of a square wave, a SS amp will more closely follow it. This is why most CDs sound like Crap on our Klipschorns. When CD producers figure out that life like music does not so much resemble what the digital tape sees as accurate reproduction as opposed to the sound of an open miked hall, we will finally get listenable CDs. 'Til then I'll listen to Chicago on vinyl. Just my .02. I don't have any fancy scientific journals to cite just my ears. Rick
  3. Wow! Thanks Hamish. Those are great! Rick
  4. John, Thank you very much for your input. Yes, the new diaphrams have heavier leads. In your opinion I should change both of the diaphrams now and eliminate the diodes? I told my wife today that I am going to start buying parts to build AL K's network. That should eliminate changing out the caps in the AA networks. There is a brand new Lowe's open in my area, rope caulk is on my shopping list. I'll keep an eye out for some K55V's on ebay. I think there was a pair recently, I thought I don't need those right now. I will look into those "Z" brackets also. Maybe someone on the board can tell us more about them and show some pic's. This retirement stuff is not cheap! all I do, besides my archery, is sit here and think of ways to spend money and keep myself busy. You can't beat those Klipschorns. I just watched the Stones on HBO, 110db and they were not even breaking a sweat (Mick was ). Two tweeters would have sounded better though. Rick
  5. Here is a link to DIY Audio where there is a pair of EV ST 350's(K77) for sale. He is asking $350. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=5ff2ac8d93a0ce165408df1d637b3a9b&threadid=15559 Rick
  6. Thanks Gil and Lynnm, I just needed someone to kick me in the back of the head. I ordered a pair of diaphrams on Ebay for $44.99. and will just repair the one for now and put the other in an envolope inside the other top section until I need it. I still would like to upgrade the squaker. Maybe when I sell my business real estate. Rick
  7. One of the tweeters in my Klipschorns stopped working. I tested it and it was open. Upon inspection, I found one of the small wires of the voice coil was broken. Since they are the same age I suspect the other one is probably weakened due to the constant movement. Should I try to put a new domes in these tweeters or is it time to upgrade to the new k-77-f tweeters? I have AA crossovers would it be worth upgrading the squaker driver to the k-55-x at this time? Although my funds are a little limited right now due to early retirement, I now spend more time with my horns than ever before. I want the best sound I can afford. That means no AK-4 networks or ALK's or John Warren's nice looking AAs. I have been learning quite a bit since I found this site and thank all of you for your participation. Rick
  8. Just be careful with open cell foam. Remember what happened here in Rhode Island at the Station night club. You could buy carpet remnants and hang them on the walls to deaden them. Might even get the wife to help pick them out. Carpeting and painted curved masonite might even look as good as it sounds. Rick
  9. IKF congradulations! When I saw those I knew someone here would jump on them. I wish I had a bigger room. If I had I would've taken the leap. Hmmm, 4 LaScalas for $1400? Nah, the wife would get me in my sleep. Rick
  10. Steve, I am using KSF-S5 as my surrounds with K-horms as mains, RSC-3II center, and they sound fine. I have balanced the levels with an RS Sound Level Meter on the Yami RX-V1. I would like to upgrade my center and surrounds to RS-7s but right now they wouldn't pass the WAF. By the way that RS meter cost me $39.95 in 1975! Rick Rick
  11. Here is what you need Brandon: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3037804851&category=1499 rick
  12. They are in Michigan. Three black Cornwalls from a screening room. No pics. Buy it now only $700 for all three. The same party has 4 commercial La Scalas for $350 ea. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2547840630&category=47094 Rick
  13. $50 you thief!!!!!!!!!! Great buy! I think that the logo was changed starting in 1978. I got the new logo on my horns then. The demo units I listened to had the pie shaped logo. Rick
  14. Take a look at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=3037323201 (you have to copy & paste to address bar.I don't know how to link in this forum yet.) YAMAHA RX-V1200 HOME THEATER RECEIVER has the same specs as my RX-V1 which is a great HT reciever. List price is $1999. Rick
  15. John, Can you get a close up of your horns? They look beautiful. Rick
  16. Wow! This is worse than waiting for the lobster pot to boil on a Sterno stove. Trey you've got our interest up to a feverish pitch. If you want to avoid roiting in the streets you have to tell us the results with the older networks. Rick
  17. 1. What Heritage speakers have you owned, currently own, or want to own? Klipsch Horns 1978 2. What was your age when you first purchased a Heritage series loudspeaker? 31 3. What is your current age?55 4. Why did you choose Heritage loudspeakers over another Klipsch model? What are now Heritage Series was the Klipsch line-up in 1978, 5. If you currently own some Heritage loudspeakers, and could purchase some more Klipsch speakers(new or used), which ones would you purchase? Why? RF-7, to replace RF-3 Front center. The RF-3 would replace the KV-1 rear center. RS-3II(RS-35) to replace KSS-5 rear surrounds which would become front effects. 6. Do you think the upcoming Jubilee should become part of the "Heritage" line, since it was also designed by PWK? No opinion. Rick
  18. Greatful Dead "Europe '72". Rick
  19. Any of these have my vote for an inexpensive HT reciever. You can probably get better prices on the web. You are doing the right thing putting the speakers first. 20. I just bought some figured black walnut on ebay to veneer my Khorns. They are currently walnut stained birch plywood. I hope they look as good as those cherry Cornwalls when we get them done. I'll post pictures of the project when ir gets underway. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2334672162&category=3131 Rick
  21. I would say go for the RS-7s they are a perfect match for your front mains and center. The front effect channels carry only mid to low high frequencies to simulate wall reflections and are generally driven at a lower level. The RS-5s would do very well there. Rick
  22. It sounds to me that the amp is not clipping. Rather the driver(s) is bottoming due to the excessive power being applied. An amp is rated at X wattage continous, however when it is idleing and a large signal is applied it can put out instantanious power many times it's rated output driving the voice coil beyond it's normal inward travel and when it hits something solid POP. It could be the back of the magnet assy or the cone hitting the front of the magnet. Either way the diaphragm is doing its job transmitting the noise, ugly as it may be. If your sub has wire connections you could try running your connections from the amp into these and then out to the speakers to take advantage of the crossover filter built into the sub. Using it essentially as a low pass filter shunt and input to the sub. Rick
  23. I was taught to repair small defects in speakers with rubber cement. The gooey stuff that comes in a bottle with a brush. Just paint s small dab on the defect and it'll be as good as new and the tear will not spread with the vibrations of the speaker as it is pliable. I wouldn't use Elmers because it is water based and not as pliable when set. Rick
  24. The folded horn couples to the two walls and the floor, thus Trihedral. Rick
