  1. Craig LeMay is one of the finest drummers I have had a chance to listen to. Very technical and powerful. Hopefully he will get his due and find a band that is legitimate of his worth. Cheers.
  2. NOS, Thanks for coming to the rescue. The Astros are a legitimate club that won the NL fair and square. Well maybe for the missed tag but it would not have mattered. Roy O dominated the Cards like no other pitcher has. The only 20 game winner back to back last 2 seasons. And if he had run support, he might have had 3 20 win seasons. He only has had 59 wins the last 3 seasons. As a seasoned baseball fanatic since '63, there have only been a few pitchers that even come close. Sandy Koufax comes to mind, along with Nolan Ryan on his coattails. Mike Scott was a great pitcher but not in the same league. Dennis Eckersley had some stellar moments along with Orel Herschiser with the Dodgers. Even Greg Maddox is considered one of the best. But alas the time is now and Roy Oswalt is the dominate pitcher right now. Why is this topic in 2 Ch. audio anyway? I listen on an AM radio for Milo Hamilton, who called Hank Aaron's record for the Braves. Speaking of Harry Carey, I love how he used to get all molared up and mispronounce names. Hediki Arabu comes to mind. Arruba, arebii, that little japenese fellow. What a joke. Cheers
  3. Hearing Milo Hamilton call the game "Astros win the pennant" was a long time coming. As for the Astros being a "Expansion" team get over yourself. That was then, this is now. I guess some people live in the past. As the 4th largest city in the nation we should just show our respect to the New Yorks, LA's, Chicago, St. Louis, Green Bay and the other "Legend" franchises. But we are in and St. Louis is not. Roy Oswalt shut down the Cardinals and that is a fact. Whether or not we are an expansion team makes no difference. The series with the White Sox will be an evenly matched series with excellant pitching, small ball hitting and great coaching. Of course it is not what the networks want, but our team is in and the 5 million area residents will be supporting them. I guess the Marlins should get the same respect as our Astros. You should have seen the people filing into our sports stores last night to purchase the hats, t-shirts and memorabilia. Even our local sports commentators were at a loss for words after the win. Hey Craig, Kelly Brown moved up to Dallas. PM me if you need his email. We went up to the Ferret his last night here, or whatever they are calling it these days. He is still playing and is now practicing his Dreamtheater licks. Cheers.
  4. Mike Portnoy-Dreamtheater is pretty good live. Neal Peart is the best I have seen live. Carl Palmer was amazing with ELP back in 77. Lenny White with Return to Forever had a great mix and could play with amazing force. Terry Bozzio was unreal with Zappa. With all of the different time signatures, I had a hard time keeping up just watching. Of course Buddy Rich and Gene Kruppa are from another era where you just did not have massive kit. Another thread would be the best drum solo. Hemisphere's tour ala Neil Peart would get my vote. 2. Led Zepplin 77 3. Zappa 77 4. ELP 77 5. Genesis 76 Chester and Phil
  5. I like to start off with Enya's Watermark. Yes Live at the House of Blues Kansas Device,Voice,Drum Pink Floyd The Wall (MFSL version) Al Stewart Year of the Cat (MFSL version) Supertramp Crime of the Century (MFSL version) Dreamtheater Octavarium Pink Floyd Wish you were Here (CBS Half Speed Master) the rest is up to the listener.
  6. Octavarium is one that I am spinning right now. Falling Into Infinity is a fairly good representation of some prog. They have a dvd of Images and Words from Tokyo along with another live performance. Portnoy has another band called Liquid Tension Experiment that has Tony Levin on bass. They only made 2 albums but are worth a listen. Of course my laser disc of Exit Stage Left of Rush is still the fave here.
  7. I have had the TX-DS797B for a little over 4 years now and it is one of the best recievers I have ever heard. At the time I was looking at the 989 ver2 but it was a little out of my reach. Wish I could have bought that one but am happy with mine. Do yourself a favor and see what it would sound like in your system. I don't think you would be dissapointed. Cheers.
  8. Just got it yesterday. Only listened on the PC. Will take it home tonight to see how it really sounds.
  9. As an engineer we tin the leads and then crimp. Of course this depends on temp. considerations. As we are not putting the connectors in a downhole situation I would recommend tin and crimp. Cheers
  10. Taylor Made Firesole 9.5 Calloway 2+ Nike 5W Ping Eye Black Eye Burton Roll-In Titleist Pro-V1 Handicap 8
  11. Go to the Brown Derby at Disney\MGM absolutely great food but $$$. We stayed at the Grand Floridian but there are cheaper places to stay on the property. Highly advise to stay there as it will take a lot off of the travel time to and fro. They also have breakfast with the Disney characters for the kiddies that is a treat. Plus as mentioned the transportation to get around the parks. The Tower of Terror-Great Ride, get a reservation for that one. Stay away from the Mexican restaurant as it is not to authentic. The British restaurant has great Trifle's- very sweet. Hope you have a good time.
  12. Thought you guys deserved an article from my EDN magazine on display technology. As an engineer in the SMT field we get these for free for the latest in technology. http://www.edn.com/article/CA505067.html
  13. If it decodes in the dvd player then it will pass all 6 discrete channels of info. That is the 5 channels and 1 channel of LFE to the reciever. The THX cert. predates DD and DTS. It recommended dipole surrounds for its decorrelation process.
  14. Still play the trumpet. Have an 72 yamaha silver. My teacher played with Ringling Bros. Play every Xmas and Easter at local Houston churches. Not that I attend. They pay very well for brass ensemble. Have played with the Houston Symphony back in 76. We did the show "Oklahoma". It was a local production with the Conroe Chorale. 2 nights of pure music. Our director had a pair of AR-3a's hooked up to a McIntosh amp and Dynaco pre at his home. That's where the insanity started.
  15. The Beatles MFSL Box Set. It's like buttah.
  16. There are a nice pair on Audiogon in the HWO finish. $400 is the asking price. Cheers
  17. Check this site out if you like rare records. www.recordsbymail.com
  18. Don't forget the Nautilus series of vinyl. The Doobie Bros. the Captain and Me sound great. Try to find the old Quad records. I have an old Poco called Cantamos. The sound is quite fantastic. Cheers.
  19. Try Falling into Infinity. One of their best yet. Also try 5 Years in a Livetime. Starship Troopers is on there. It is bundled with another DVD. Not bad you get 2 concerts on 1 disc.
  20. That is exactly what I did. It makes the center more full. I was surprised by how much bass info is coming through. I set the center to large and ran the cutoff at 80 Hz through the sub.
  21. You will not believe how much a center sub will add to dialog and SFX. I hooked it up last night and it made a tremendous difference in the overall presence of an action movie. It will be interesting to see how regular TV will sound. I would recommend this to anyone that has a spare sub lying around.
  22. I have an old SW8II that I am going to be adding to my center channel. At one time I had this done but forgot how to do this. Do you use the center out on the RCVR to the sub then the speaker output to the center channel. This was what I thought I did the first time before I moved. THX
  23. I have an TX-DS797B that I have had for 3 years with Heresy mains and it sounds great. I would look for a used TS-DS989 Ver.2 I am in the process of trying to find one to mainly use with only HT. For 2 channel I use an old Grommes tube amp. See if you can get an in home demo and decide for yourself. Cheers.
  24. I have an TX-DS797B that has performed flawlessly over the past couple of years. As far a brightness it is not really a screamer. If you use the analog inputs for CD, Phono or DVD for music the sound is really balanced. Plus you can use the Direct Input for a pure analog sound albiet without a sub. Everyone that has heard it cannot hear the so called brightness. Try it out and see if you like it.
