  1. I've had one for 3 years now. No problems whatsoever. While not considered audiophile gear, I'm happy with the sound. Nothing like getting rid of all those jewel cases. One recommendation though; get the one that comes with the remote control that has the lcd on top. It's much easier to see it than the display on the unit from a distance.
  2. Myself, after 5 years I'm still amazed by my klf20s. I play them easily 30 hours a week and most of the time at very high volume. I believe I have the last speaker I'll ever own. I'd say pick up a pair of these or klf30s. I'm currently on the hunt for an extra pair myself.
  3. I agree somewhat. It seems odd without Christie, and Stevie does seem a little uninspired. After a couple of playthroughs though, I actually prefer the audio on this one to The Dance. I find it a little more raw and more to what you'd expect from being at a concert. Don't get me wrong, The Dance is great and what I consider to be reference quality. It's just nice to see something that's very good while not being as produced as the first. BTW, It amazes me to see how 30 years later how damned good this band still is. I seriosly doubt that there will be as many of today's new acts putting out concert dvds 30 years from today.
  4. Being I'm not much into the video end of things, Iwas wondering if anybody could recommend a flat screen tv. Its for my father in laws birthday. He's absolutely insistent on a flat screen vs. projection. We're looking for 36" or bigger in the $1500 range. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  5. The best steak in Philly is at Tony Lukes which is located at the corner of Front and Oregon in S. Philly. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the steaks don't get any better. I spent my first 25years in Philly and consider myself THE authority on such matters. While you're there, please be so kind as to pick me up a couple and send them down here to Florida for me. I've spent 10 yrs down here now and am still unsuccessful in locating a good cheesesteak. I'm a little tired of conch fritters. Anyway, If you go,enjoy.
  6. I don't believe they're from the klf series either. When I took my klf 20's apart to reseal the cabinets the plastic cover plate on the bach of the connects was beige, not white like on the ones you have pictured.
  7. As far as the Maiden cover art goes, the guy who did all their album covers has his own online portfolio. Some pretty cool stuff. I don't know how to post a link, but if you're interested it's www.derekriggs.com
  8. I almost forgot, two favorite lyrics on the top of my head right now. "If you were a pill,I'd take a handfull at my will, and knock you back with something sweet and strong". Number two," Hike up your skirt a little more, and show the world to me". If you want to guess, the second one is pretty easy. The first not so, but a great song nonetheless.
  9. I recognize Maiden, Buffet and Steppenwolf. It's nice to see someone else whom has a varied taste in music. People around my house get a little apprehensive when I turn on the mega-changer. A little CCR,Wasp,Marley or Sinatra. If I drink enough, maybe a little of each.
  10. I blew out a 10 in. driver in my klf 20. Called klipsch parts for a new one 117$ delivered. It got here in 3 days and took 10 mins. to change out. The 12in. driver for the klf 30 shouldn't be much more I wouldn't think. Good luck.
  11. I'm not so much ragging on BB as I am on Klipsch and their future plans. When a company enters into agreement with either BB or CC, quality and innovation go down hill Companies like jbl and infinity were once a better product before going the way of mass market. Take Polk for example. Back in the the early to mid 80's, they made a very good product. Enter their relationship with CC. Gone are the products that put them on the map. No more 5 ft. cabinets with 9 drivers in them. Now, they make a generic tower with a built in sub as their flagship model to blend in with everything else in the showroom. My point is, if Klipsch doesn't seem to be too concerned about the availability of their reference line, where do they plan on selling the new premiere signature line that they unveiled at this years CES show? My guess is that they just might sell it at the same stores that sell the Jubilee that I've seen pictured. Hopefully not.
  12. That is the only downside to Klipsch, they make a mediocre recording sound bad. I have alot of 80's alternative cd's that just sound terrible but I like the music(the Replacements,Hoodoo Gurus, the Church to name a few). Believe it or not(Iknow I'm gonna take some heat for this!). In reterospect, I wish I still had my old Cerwin Vegas as an alternate set of mains specificly to play my not so well recorded cds. They weren't the best speaker I've owned, but they were forgiving in that regard. Unfortunately, the only way that will happen is if I get rid of my wife. One day maybe, but not today.
  13. Two that I like that I didn't see mentioned(maybe I missed) are Tom Petty-High Grass Dogs and Bad Company-don't recall the title but I'm pretty sure it's the only one they have out. Good performances as well as recordings. As far as what I consider to be the best concert dvd as being a reference standard, Steely Dan-Plush TV.
  14. The bigger question to me is, why doesn't Klipsch try and find a way to make the reference line and heritage series more available? It seems to me that the people who post on this website are more than willing to spend extra on our audio equipment. That said, I don't think we're the ONLY ones willing to do so. Imagine an rf3 based ht system in the BB demo room and how much better it is than anything else they offer. Even at a higher price, I don't see how it couldn't sell itself in that environment. Throw an rf7 based system in there coupled with the $7000 big screen tv and see how that goes. I mean,if bose sells a hell of alot of $350 clock wave radios, I believe Klipsch can sell their reference line. Heritage, let's face it, just doesn't have the size, WAF that is needed today to sell on a mass market level. However, judging by the interest here in 10plus year old equipment, it could be sold in smaller upper end stores. I'd like to think you can be just as profitable by making a higher grade product as you can making junk to compete with klh and the like. Maybe it's time for an American company to raise the bar with quality instead of lowering the bar for price. That's the way it used to be. Think of how much of the products that we buy today are cheap in quality for the sake of price. I was always told that when you purchase something, buy the best that way you only have to buy it once. O.K., I'll shut up now, just my two cents.
  15. As someone in Florida who can't find a reference dealer who has that line in stock within a two hour drive, I empathize with your aggrevation. I want to purchase a pair of rb75 but the only dealers within a 75 mile radius either don't have them in stock or won't order them in without grief for the lack of deposit. I am familiar with the quality of Klipsch enough to order them without demo-ing them first, but if I am going to do that, damn if I'm going to pay full MSRP. I'll take my chances and order them online. I sometimes wonder if it is not Klipsch's intent to eventually join the ranks fo the cheaper is better Walmart society we live in. Just for giggles, I've demoed their pro-media line at a local Comp-usa and wasn't the slightest bit impressed. They have the synergy line at Best Buy. But in my opinion, that particular line isn't quite deserving of the Klisch tag. Although it is better than the other lines Best buy carries, it's not that impressive. I saw where one of the moderators stated that the reason that Klipsch ended their reationship with Sound Advice/Tweeter was that they did not have the speakers setup nor shown optimally. If that's the case, how do they justify a store like BB, which has the worst listening setup I've ever seen or heard. I don't mean to ramble, but I wonder why all the low end stuff is readily available while the mid-line and heritage are not. Don't get me wrong, I'm very satisfied with the Klipsch products I own. I just question why a company would sue online sellers of their product when they don't seem to have very many brick and mortar sellers. You can't even aquire them from Klipsch directly, but they do sell t-shirts. Go figure. It seems to me, at the rate they're going, qulity Klipsch products might have to be purchased from yard sales and e-bay only. Makes me wish I bought one more pair of klf-20 while they were avaiable. I don't mean to piss anybody off, just sharing my observation.
  16. I've often wondered why Klipsch pulled out of Sound Advice without having another retailer in line to handle their reference series. I live in east central Florida and the closest authorized dealers are two custom h.t. installers whom both told me they had nothing other than the in-walls to display. I can see driving a distance to acquire khorns or one of the other holy grail heritage speakers, but for what is a current and should be readily available reference line speaker, not me. Maybe Klipsch should be more concerned with finding a new system of dealers rather than filing suit against unauthorized online deaalers. For some of us, online purchases are the only practical way to purchase klipsch.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I didn't even think to just have them re-veneered. I think that's the way I'll go. I bought the speakers just as they were discontinuing the legend line and black was all that seemed to be available. I often wonder why most speaker companies choose this color. I know Klipsch does offer a choice on most speakers, but most stores i came across only had black in stock, even for the newly released(at the time) reference line. I'm not sure in what finish I'll have them done, but after seeing some of the more exotic(zebrawood, mahogany, etc.) finishes I've seen on some of the old heritage series on this forum, I,m sure it will be something you don't see everyday. Anyway, thanks again for the advice.
  18. I have a pair of klf20 and a c7 that I'm very fond of and plan on keeping for a long time. The problem is, that they are in black, which I don't care for. It makes them look like anything else available at circuit city/best buy. In other words, their looks don't do their sound justice. I'm considering removing the drivers and crossovers and taking the empty cabinets to a cabinet maker to have a much nicer housing made for them. Here in lies the question I'm not sure of, possibly a dumb question: Will replacing the mdf the speakers are currently made of with real wood affect or change the sound? Any help appreciated.
  19. The sides are rabbeted plywood with a 3/8 inch back and 3/4 inch plywood front(if I remember correctly). The glue originally used dried clear and was in no way rigid. By gently pushing from the inside the panel easily comes loose. you can then with a putty knife pretty much pull most of the glue off in one long bead. What little remained I just covered with a long bead of liquid nail"put the rear panel back on and placed 3 25lb. weights on top overnight. Repeated the process for the front the next day and 3 years later still no problem. As far as the rabbeted surface goes where the glue goes it is just the plywood with a little bit of flat black paint overspray which the glue easily adheres to.
  20. They used to carry both brands in the same showroom here years ago when I purchased my legends. If the same is true now as it was then, both very good yet very different speakers. Definitely one of those calls where you have to audition yourself before purchasing. My choice, I've got a pair of rb75 on my christmas list.
  21. Mine wereonly partially loose also. I wasn't able to get enough of an opening to apply the glue without taking it off completely. Just start at the point where it is loose and gently push out slowly working your way around the edge. The glue that was defective glue they originally used dried to a soft consistansy like caulk. There is no danger of breaking anything as long as you take it slow, and again, start from the point of where the glue is no longer adhering where the back is loose.
  22. I had the same problem with my klf20. Actually, it was the front and back of both speakers. It's fairly easy to repair. I found that the best way was to remove the 4 drivers from the front panel and push the rear panel out through the driver cutouts. Once the rear panel is out, simply scrape off old glue with a putty knife and replace with liquid nail. Let dry overnight before reassembling. While you have the speaker apart you might want to check to see if the front is loose also. It'll save you some aggrevation down the road. Good luck.
  23. I have a sony cdp-cx400 that I've used for 3 years now. Myself, I'm very happy with it. None of the mechanical breakdowns I feared given that the thing is used probably 15-20 hrs. a week. You can always go grab one at circuit city or best buy and return it if you don't care for it. I'll probably get blasted for this, but just as I've never heard any detectable difference in speaker wire, I've never heard that much of a difference between a $200 cd player and one that costs $1000.
