  1. My latest project are D-class amplifiers using Anaview ALC02400-2300 modules. The base module will run 55wpc in stereo and 200 in mono, so I built two. I added a input switch, so I can run them as stereo amps or as a set of mono blocks. I also installed Alps potentiometers. I can run them as stand alone stereo amps or add a preamp and better drive them as mono blocks
  2. Any dimmer switches or florescent lights in the room? If yes, try turning them off and see if the noise goes away.
  3. They should be capturing the refrigerant and putting it back. By law, they are not to vent it to the atmosphere. You will need some but not a lot. I got an American Standard Platinum 18 seer 4 ton installed for $8500.
  4. Lookie what I did. It started out an ADC arm with a fixed head shell and a broken wire. It is now a removable head shell without a broken wire. It is now better than when it was new.
  5. Rose and I are headed to Florida in late August with my sister and her husband. Rented a cottage at https://www.margaritavilleresortorlando.com/
  6. Sometimes it's just the simple pleasures of life.
  7. Getting my grilling on for the 4th.
  8. I would use Better Bond Heat-Lock™ Veneer Glue. It comes in a dark and light color, depending on the veneer you choose. You coat the speaker and the veneer using a rubber roller. Nice uniform even coats and let it dry. Place the pieces together and then use an iron to reheat the glue and they stick together. You can cut the veneer a little over size and trim after it is on using a sharp carpet blade, veneer saw or flush trim bit in a router. I personally cut it to fit because I can align perfect before I glue the pieces together. Here are a couple of examples of speakers I have built and veneered. http://wardsweb.org/audio/KlipschReplica/ http://wardsweb.org/audio/Widgets/
  9. Travis is in Austin. I'm down the road in San Antonio. May drive up to Austin this weekend to see Travis.
  10. I have #678. It is an awesome pressing. It is dead quiet. Some people hear something off with the cymbals. They must be really focusing on that because I don't hear what they describe as flatten or splashy. I think it has more to do with some people's turntables or cartridges. I wouldn't dwell on it but just listen and enjoy. Bernie Grundman is one of my favorite audio engineers.
  11. I wish you were closer. I could hook you up. Here are a few arms I have rebuilt/rewired: Black Widow, Empire, Rega.
  12. Sonically it’s an A+
  13. Hot off the press. Took over a year between ordering and receiving.
  14. While some "audiophiles" do spend a lot of money on their system, spending a lot of money does not make someone an audiophile. To me, an audiophile loves and appreciates music. The gear is a means to an end. So as long as the system delivers live realism and has you get taken away emotionally in the music, that is all that is required, regardless of the cost. I feel many Klipsch speakers fly under the audiophile radar. Sad really because they are a great bang for your buck. The speed, dynamics, realism and ability to articulate a whisper are what I like about my Jubilee and Cornwall III speakers. YMMV
  15. Here is something done while I have been away.
  16. Hello all, thought I would let you know I have not died. Just got a new job that has taken over my life. Small world, I was having lunch today when a guy walks up and says I met you and Travis at the Klipsch Pilgrimage. What are the odds? Even more so when he lives in Dallas and just happened to be in San Antonio today.
  17. So you don't need mega power and the Forte's have good bottom end. Your phono stage will be noticed in the mids and highs. A tube pre will take the edge off your highs just a bit. So if you find your treble a bit too much, that may be a good thing. If you yearn for ultra high sizzle, a solid state phono pre lends itself to more, to the point of shrill. All this depending on your source vinyl and how it was mastered, but generally speaking tubes give you warm without being dull and solid state can get edgy on horns. I like high end sizzle and my tube phono pre with large horns sounds wonderful. Either way, you really can't go wrong. It's more a personal taste kind of thing.
  18. Let me ask you this: what turntable/cartridge and speakers are you using?
  19. Not a simple A or B question. You want your gear to compliment one another. You want synergy. So, it depends on what cartridge, amplifier(s) and speakers you use. In my case, I use a high output moving coil cartridge, tube phono pre, a passive linestage, tube mono blocks and very high efficiency horn speakers. I changed the caps in the phono pre, not only to a lot better caps, but also, some values to work better with the passive linestage. The output caps were entirely too small for the linestage because it has a dynamic input impedance that can go as low as 10.4K. So, the .9uF was replaced with 4.7uF Mundorf Supreme Silver. That gets the phono pre to play nicely with the passive linestage. Why a passive linestage? The speakers are around 100dB efficient. They don't need a lot of power. My 845 tube amps have an output of 22 watts. A preamp with gain meant my volume was zero at 6 o'clock and too loud to stay in the room at 9 o'clock. Not much control at all. The passive linestage means I have a usable volume range from 6 o'clock to 3 o'clock. You see how each piece interacts with the next and how each component has a reasoning in the mix. Think about each piece in your system and how they interact with each other and what it is you like to hear.
  20. They use all factory drivers, horns and crossovers, that I picked up at the Pilgrimage in Hope/Bodcaw.
  21. The Smith horns image very well and while I knew they would have great horizontal dispersion, I have no clue how well they handled the vertical soundstage. I really like these horns.
  22. It's crazy that it has already been a year since I built these. Still love them.
  23. Here are a few to check out. Adele - Someone like you Diana Krall - Peel me a grape Eva Cassidy - Fields of gold Jane Monheit - Over the rainbow Jennifer Warnes - The well Karrin Allyson - Moanin' Madeleine Peyroux - Dance me to the end of love Melody Gardot - Your heart is as black as night Nina Simone - Sugar in my bowl Nora Jones - Don't know why Patricia Barber - Touch of trash Rebecca Pidgeon - Spanish harlem Sade - Is it a crime Sarah K - He got you Sarah McLachlan - Angel Susie Suh - Won't you come again
  24. Just came across a guy on Audiokarma selling this new in the box turntable.
  25. Wow! She has got to go. That is NOT how you handle a record.
