If you are interested, I posted a short report from my visit. It is on page 5 of this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?mode=viewtopic&topicID=48823

  3. I have visited Gary at his shop and have seen his vintage K-horn. It is the real deal. Where is it advertised for sale? I did not see that on his web site.
  4. I thought that theater in Indy with the Klipsch was a Regal/UA cinema (I could be wrong).
  5. "1) I have Forte fronts, Forte surround, Academy center. All have my upgraded networks. I gotta admit, I LOVE the sound of my setup, and am asking myself WHY I would want to do KHorns." --------------------- Since you LOVE the way your setup sounds, you could leave it like it is and get the K-horns for a two channel setup, assuming you have another room of sufficient size (That's what I did when I finally got K-horns. I liked my 3-Cornwall/2-Heresy HT setup too much to change it). If you decide to work the K-horns into a surround setup, I strongly suggest using one of your Cornwalls for the center, and Heresys in the rear. That is how my brother's system is setup and it is very, very good. The timbre match is excellent. If you love your system now, you will really love a system with big Heritage accoss the front.
  6. "Hey Dave.... When do you think I can come over?" -------------------- David, Do you still have my phone number? Call me. I'll be around this evening.

Are those Mark III's stock? ---------------- Tom, No they are not stock. The original PC board with the single 6AN8 tube has been replaced with a circuit using a pair of 6DJ8 tubes (the new PC board us marked mk-3 and GSI 84). The caps have been replaced, and the big can cap on top has been removed and replace with a cap that is now the chassis. The original bias adjustment pot has been removed, and now there is an adjustment pot on the new PC board. These amps have the 6550 output tubes. I have heard the Blueberry several times now (all with VRDs) and have always been impressed. Perhaps someday I'll go that route (is there still a JM roadshow going?).
  8. Try turning down the equalization on the sub channel about -3dB, and turn up the sub volume to compenstate. That fixed to pop I used to sometimes get on my SW10-II (I have to give Trey Cannon the credit for that trick).
  9. Listening to SACD version of DSOTM right now. It never sounded this good before! Delicate and powerful at the same time, only tubes sound like this. The 299D is very good, but this is a different level of satisfaction.
  10. I finally acquired some serious tubes for my K-horns, a pair of Dynaco Mark IIIs and a Scott 130 preamp. I set them up yesterday evening. These things seriously unleash the K-horns! I was up until 2:00 am (and at work before 7:00 am ). Barely turned up and they hit 110 dB in pure clean sweet tube power! Good thing the wife and kids are out of town. Slight hum in the 130, so off to Craig in a couple of days.
  11. "This gathering is unauthorized, not endorsed by Klipsch. It's just a couple of Arkansas forum members getting together another Arkansas Renegade Klipsch Forum Gathering." Well, this Texas boy is gonna crash your party!
  12. ---------------- On 7/13/2005 10:52:25 PM Tom Blasing wrote: O.k. I'll be the first one here to admit it; I use a Discwasher SC2 kit. ---------------- I've been using one of those for 20 years. Seems to work o.k., but I'm sure there are better stylus cleaners out there.
  13. Mine arrived today, thanks Amy. The metal clip had cut through the envelope and was sticking out. There was a 12 cent postage due notice stamped on the envelope but they delivered it anyway! I Hope to wear it again in September .
  14. "Some of us like our low midrange 350 - 700 hz to be horn loaded and prefer the Heritage..." That hits the nail on the head.
  15. Interesting. That's the first time I have heard someone describe the K-horn as "tubby". To me they don't necessarily slam the listener with a low frequency blast like a large direct radiator, but "tubby"? Nice review of an obviously very nice system.
  16. Al, thanks for posting. When I installed 511Bs in my K-horns, I mounted the K-77s vertically. No question in my mind that the dispersion is better that way (they are also nearly two feet farther apart now).
  17. I thought the A vs. B activity was really fun, as was the entire day. I think some are being too critical of the way it was set up and run. It's not like it was some highly controlled experiment. Flawed or not, it was cool to get to hear those two speakers in an A/B comparison.
  18. My Heritage may be "innfacturate-sounding", but I would not trade them for anything else. Even for HT, I really prefer the mids produced by a horn rather than a direct radiator. BTW, the F2 speakers that we heard at the Pilgrimage mixer were very impressive and sounded better than many non-Klipsch speakers selling for 3 times the price (IMO of course).
  19. I showed the storage unit pic to my wife and told her I wanted to get one like that. She said, "go ahead, just buy me a bigger house".
  20. '83 Heresys ROCK! Congrats on your find.

Just a guess.
  22. I liked speaker A. It had a much more full sound than speaker B. B had great detail in the upper frequency range, but there was something not quite to my taste, and it seemed to be at around 2 kHz and below in the lower mid range frequencies. Speaker A needed some equalization, but overall I felt that A's shortcomings would be an easy fix, and that with a few tweeks could be an incredible speaker. While B sounded very good like it is, I picked A.
  23. "Not everyone! I run a derived center!" Same here. I am a big fan of the derived center in a two-channel system under the right conditions.
