  1. I've got (actually it's my wife's car) an '02 Ford Escape with the basic 6 CD changer and it keeps crapping out on us which appears to be a common problem across all of Ford's CD changers. I'm tired of fixing it and want to put another CD changer of the same type in for $200 or less. It needs to be simple to operate (don't need a jillion gadgets and on screen programming) and I don't want one that you have to pull the CD cassette out. She really likes the fact that she can load them and eject them one at a time. She'd like one that plays CD's, CD-R/RW, and maybe even MP3's. You geniuses have any suggestions? I've been to Crutchfield and Best Buy, etc. but I'm looking for some personal recommedations which is what you guys and gal's are good at! Thanks!
  2. Before you northerners jump all over me about being cold in Florida, let me say that this is for my kid..... We're eventaully getting into winter here in sunny FL but still have a few months to go. In the mean time, as the temperature is dropping, I hate turning the electric central heater on to my entire house when all I need is to be able to heat my son's bedroom during the night while he sleeps. I'm fine getting under the blankets when the house dips into the 50's but I need to keep my 18 month old just a little warmer than that....and do it safely while he's unattended in the crib. No fires, smells, gas, etc.... What inexpensive recommendations do you folks have that will allow me to NOT have to run my central heater to keep my son warm during the night. ...and keep in mind that as soon as the sun comes out (other than January or February), the house warms up nicely.
  3. Ha! I think I read the post a little too fast! Dang...I was hoping to accidentally learn some magical way to keep my knives sharp!
  4. If you can live with 2D drawings which most people who are looking for low-cost or free software usually can, I highly recommend that you find an older version of AutoCAD LT. I bought my version new back in 1997 for around $350 and it has paid for itself many times over in projects at my house. You can make your drawings as engineeringly perfect as you want and then make a materials list and go buy what you need. It is a fully capable and very intuitive CAD program. Type "l" for line and "e" for erase and "c" for circle and so on. Use the "snaps" to make sure your lines meet EXACTLY at intersections or centers of circles (unlike trying to draw in Powerpoint where you guess at exact intersections). You can calibrate your printer so your prints are scaled to a true 1 to 1. When I was in college, I did purchase a student version of ProE for $25 and it's excellent software IF, IF, IF, you use it all the time. Although it's incredibly powerful (usually more powerful than what you need at the house), it is not intuitive in the least. If you don't regularly use it (like I do at my job), you'll forget how to even start a drawing in a very short time!
  5. Okay Mr. Oscarsear...help me out here..... How does wetting a knife after each use keep it sharper?
  6. I can't believe it was only written once but I could watch the Blue's Brothers a thoussand times and laugh just as hard as the first! Dumb and Dumber Ace Ventura's Pet Detective and Mystery Men are my other favorites to watch when the wifey's not around!
  7. I'm sure there will be some local dealers that will hate me for saying this but I've used tirerack.com for the last 12 years for my camaro and have save hundreds of dollars every time I've purchased the tires. ....and you don't pay tax which can be a big deal if the 4 tires set you back $800+. They have good prices normally but when they discontinue a tire or have overstock....It's not uncommon to save $100 per tire! I know 'cause I've done it!
  8. Thanks gang! I'll have to try that out. I may find it easier to regularly delete my email on the Earthlink server than to miss emails on a regular basis.
  9. Sorry but there's not much activity on Klipsh's computer forum and I need the best minds working on this. To make this short; I added a Dell laptop wirelessly to my desktop system at home. I'm running the latest Windows XP and I have Earthlink highspeed thru a cable modem/router. If I sit at my laptop and click "receive" on my Outlook, I can download all of my email since the last time I clicked "receive". Here's the problem... Now when my wife asks if she got an email from her friends, not only do I have to tell her yes, but I have to tell her which computer to go look at (desktop or laptop). Is there a SIMPLE was to be able to view what we've downloaded at any time on either the desktop or laptop? It's most aggravating.... I'm not a computer guru and my wife is CERTAINLY not a computer guru so that's why I said "SIMPLE". ??????
  10. Well here's my two cents....sorry but not photo's.... Back in 1993, I had just graduated from college but still had my 1983 Toyota Tercel Hatchback (with 285,000 miles on it). Rather than buy a new car, which would have been smart, I saw fit to buy two new Chorus II's down in Boca Raton. Needless to say that I managed to get both of those with their boxes in my Toyota and drive about 20 miles to get them home to my apartment. If someone had rearended me on the interstate, I'd have just died right there on the spot! ..and now they sound awsome in my house!
  11. Yeah....it's pretty cool! We just walked back inside after watching the launch from the roof of our building about 30 miles south of Kennedy Space Center. Not a bad day around here! It's good to be back in space.....
  12. Can't help you on the BMW thing but I think every biker who's ever upgraded to clipless pedals has gone thru the embarrassing and painful crap that ya just have to endure. My biking history lies in mountain biking and you really have to learn to get out of your pedals often on a mountain bike. I've come close to falling off the side of mountains because I couldn't get my stupid feet out. All that being said, after a month or so of regular riding, you will quickly learn that there's nothing better than clipless pedals. I'd never go back to normal pedals no matter what. They give you more control, and if your a rodie, there's no more efficient way to transfer the energy your exerting into your bike! I don't know what kind of pedals you have but the clip tension is usually adjustable. Make sure that as you start out, make the tension as light as possible to give you the sensation that your clipped in but will allow you to EASILY unclip in an emergency. As you get used to them, you'll definately want to tighten them up. I'm pretty locked in at this point in my biking career and its the best! There's nothing like coming off a jump and having the confidence that your feet aren't going to come off the pedal on when you smack the ground. And most importantly, your crotch will thank you for buying clipless!!!!!
  13. Man I hear ya! I did some weed-eatin in my yard this past friday and the thermometer (in the sun) said 111 degrees....and the grass grows like weeds in Florida in the summer so there was a bunch of weed-eatin to do! Yuck! I have no idea what the humidity was but the term Nasty comes to mind! I just kept saying to myself...man a swimming pool would be a great addition to my house about right now!
  14. If you went out and bought about a jillion little mirrors and glued them on there, you could cook more than chicken. I'd bet you could get close to a thousand degrees at the tip of that thing and maybe even more! I've seen movie clips where someone had larger dishes and they just waved a 2x6 past the focal point and it instantly busted out in flames almost explosively! You could really get some satisfaction burning fireants in your back yard with that thing!
  15. Does it not say to do that in the RC-35 manual?
  16. Lots of good info.....thanks. It appears that I accidentally purhcased the -r's so I think I'm in good shape (for once) to try 'em out! I'm just waiting on my firewire cable to download from my camcorder and I'll let you know how things go. I should have it by this weekend. (mail order was less than 1/2 price than Best Buy).
  17. Hey JTkinney! I live about 30 minutes south of KSC....whatcha lookin for? Single, married, kids(ages), colleges, etc? I see your from Alabama so you must be pretty familiar with "hot and humid". That means June thru September won't be a shock for you. The rest of the year is just awesome and the beaches are really nice! There's almost always a light seabreeze around here (but not as much as you would find in Ft. Lauderdale). That makes it feel about 10+ degrees cooler than say....Orlando or Gainesville in the summer. Ya get used to the hurricanes 'cause (despite last year) they really don't come that often. If your buying a new house, they'll stand up to almost anything now. Housing down here is going nuts and I mean NUTS! I bought my new house 4 years ago and it's now worth 2.7 times what I paid for it! Otherwise the cost of living is very reasonable. No state income tax which is a biggy right off the bat. Depending on how long you want to drive to work, you can live as far north as Mims or as far south as Palm Bay (check out a map). We are a technical community (as opposed to an industrial or agricultural community). Lots of Hi-Tech around here. Mostly governement contractors for all types of contracts which is good if a contract ends or gets dropped (there's other places to go to depending on your discipline). You'll find MUCHO retired folks around here and a few less of the 25 to 45 crowd (that's the crowd I'm runnin with). This isn't a small town by any means but it's not city mecca either. Brevard County is big but it has (I think) 600,000 people in it. Some people complain about the schools here claiming that they are behind compared to schools up north but having grown up here and attending community college here and then getting my engineering degree at University of Florida, I can tell you that I wasn't lacking a thing when I moved up to the "big" college! My two cents.....hope it helps.... My two cents.....
  18. This DVD mess reminds me (sadly) of the days of beta or VHS? What to do, what to do....? Okay...I don't much care about the technical side of why a DVD is +R or -R(and I understand the difference between Read and Read/Write). What I'm trying to figure out is which one to buy(+ or -) so that I will be able to transfer my DVD videos onto a format that I (and the grandma's) can play so that they can see their grandbaby's! I have no idea what type of dvd player they have. I thought it was just the way the information was written to the disk and didn't realize until I was in Wal-Mart last night and had to make a quick decision that there are +R and -R disks. I opted for the -R pack which by default means that you guys are going to tell me that +R would have been a much better choice....ha! My Dell Laptop has a duel layer combo drive so I have options... Whaddayathink?
  19. Yup! GE Silicone II tub and shower smells nasty for the first few hours but once it settles down, it's great stuff! It's got to be dry when you put it on so let the fountain dry at least a day. That stuff is amazing and will even cure under water as long as it's installed dry!!!!
  20. I have to admit, Circ de Solei (however you spell it) was incredible for us adults! I would do it again if I was going to get to see a different show. For this though...I can't fault Disney for asking $60 per person for a full day of activities at the WDW theme park when the de Solei show wants $70 per person for a 1.5 hour show...... Disney becomes pretty inexpensive entertainment at that point. I would agree with you guys that there are better parks out there for THRILL rides but all the kids know is Mickey Mouse, Micky Mouse, Mickey Mouse and they won't be satisfied until they come to his park! It's all about the kids(unless they are teenagers and then I'm sure they'd rather go to the scarier of the two!!!! (That's the difference between a THEME park and a THRILL park). Universal Studio's Orlando is a great THRILL park and WDW Orlando is a great THEME park. okay....that's my 4 cents now.....
  21. hmmmm....I have thoughts but not real sure what your preferences are... What time of year are you going? How long will you be there? I'm assuming cost cutting is a big deal but you may be the type that is looking for all out fun at whatever cost. I live an hour and a half from Disney so when I go, I go with different intentions. If you've got kids who have never been and are old enough to hold up to the walking traffic, you'll want to spend every minute there for their sake! If it's in the summer...it's hotter than blue-blazes and there's no breeze.....July - September are the worst for temperature. Also....if it's Florida between July - September, IT WILL RAIN every day around 3:30pm....PLAN ON IT! Once the rain has 20 or 30 minutes to steam up the already sultry-ness of the day, it will stop and let you get back out and enjoy it! Stay on Disney property if you can afford it. You get free access to the Disney transportation system (bus, monorail and boat). You might even consider taking a shuttle from Orlando airport (30 minutes away) and not even rent a car. You can't imagine how nice it is to be at your hotel in your bed within 15 minutes of the end of the looooooong day. It's great and worth a little extra $$$. Your kids will outlast you! Their are cheaper hotels on Disney property if you want to save some money. They used to be in the Disney sports area. They have less amenities but it's TOTALLY Disney quality and you still get all the "on-site" transportation stuff I told you about. Disney's new thing is the ability to reserve a place in line so you don't have to stand in line for an hour and a half(literally). Use that service every chance you get!!!!! If you plan it correctly, you can see almost twice as much as if you didn't get the service. "Why doesn't everyone do that" you ask? Becuase you can only reserve one ride at a time. You can't call up and reserve one ride for 10am and another ride for 10:30 and another at 11. They tell you what time to be there (whithin a short time window) and you plan around it. You cannot reserve another ride UNTIL that reservation time has passed. Did I mention it's hot in the Summer there? Disney is around $58+ each for a one day ticket. You will NOT be able to see it all in one day. Consider multiple day passes and/or multiple park passes. Your other options are to priceline.com motels in the Orlando area and stay off site and enjoy some of the other things Orlando has to offer. Also....make sure the hotel you stay at has a pool! Your kids will shoot you if you don't!!!! ...by the way....it's worth the heat and walking and standing in line and where else are you going to be able to keep your kids busy for days on end like that! (When I was younger, you used to be able to go into the "Hall of Presidents" attraction and sit in the air conditioning and take a snooze during the show....sorry 'bout that you history buffs.....)
  22. Man you guys were busy over the weekend on this site! I didn't expect quite so many responses... I especially liked the the one that rags on me for letting the humidity from my leaking windows (previous topic) screw up my printer. Too funny! Bunch-o-weenies! Anywho....here's the deal. Went to BB this weekend and took a photo with me that had been drying for 4 days (and still wasn't dry). I was expecting the 17 year old that didn't know anything about anything (no offense for you 17 year olds that DO work at BB and DO know something) and to my surprise....the Epson rep was on site! She claimed it was all about using wrong paper. She then pointed me to the Epson paper(suprise, suprise) and loaded it in the new Epson printer and wa-lah! She printed it and it was dry to the touch as it came out of the printer. Needless to say, I bought the 100 pack and it seems to have fixed the problem! I guess I won't be throwing mine off the roof after all! You guys were right, I just didn't want to spend another $20 on paper only to find out I still might be wrong.....
  23. Here in FL, I can throw down some "Bonus S" and within 3 days, it looks like the lawn gods spent a year on the thing. I don't know what's in that stuff but it makes plenty of grass to mow.........
  24. Thumplestiltskin(sp?)... How in the world do you keep up with all these Klipsch ads from all over the US? I can't even find the classifieds in my own local newspaper!!!! Do you just go to Classifieds.com and do a search on Klipsch?!?!?!!?
  25. I was on the bandwagon about 3 months ago to find the best printer I could find for general purpose home use printing and photo printing. I saw the Epson RX600 at BB and the quality was better than anything I had seen. Now I have it at my house and the photo's are incredible but the stupid ink never dries? This is my first photo printer (my color HP is 7 years old)so I wasn't sure what to expect. Do all photo printers do this? I've tried 3 dferent types of paper (International Paper Jetprint premium matte, premium glossy and premium semiglossy). The matte is the only one I can get to dry but I don't like how the pics look on matte. ...and "yes"...I'm printing on the correct side of the paper! I can wait a week and the ink will still smudge if I press on the photo. I don't even have to press and my fingerprints will easily show up in the photo. It's too late to take this thing back so I'll have to toss it thru the window if I can't get a solution here. You guys got any ideas? Shoulda stayed with HP I think.....
