  1. Had a very old friend here this weekend, and he was quite taken with my La Scala's. Now, he wants a pair of them. Should be functionally excellent, cosmetics not as important. He's an accomplished musician and has a really insane collection of vintage Altec and JBL speakers, so he's no slouch.....He is in SW Michigan, I am in NW Indiana. Willing to make a moderate trip for the right goods.....PM me at your convenience. Thanks.
  2. Because they were there....and he could....
  3. no hurry at all. thanks for taking the time.
  4. You DID say all in one, no other components...this baby leaves NAD far behind.....Link here just in case.... http://www.walmart.com/ip/23808027?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227017381227&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40330523792&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=78289760072&veh=sem
  5. Without even seeing the questions, here are my answers and recommendations... 1. Regarding upgrading the crossovers, yes, buy the most expensive capacitors possible. Don't worry about matching values exactly, after all, it is only microfarads.... 2. Wooden floor, concrete floor, carpeted floor, doesn't matter. And no, the little feet or spikes on the bottom of your speakers have no effect whatsoever. 3. Solid state and tube amplifiers sound the same, so don't worry about it. 4. Sit as close as possible to the right channel speaker, which is where most of the best music comes from. 5. Turn your grills upside down on your speakers to improve the midrange. I'm sure there are others, but I need to get up to get another glass of wine. Don't hesitate to reach out again. Welcome to the forum.
  6. This may be old news to some of you, but there is a gentleman on AudioKarma that produces reproduction faceplates for some of the Marantz receivers, preamps and amps. Screen name is TMZ2. Beautiful work. The black faceplates are stunning, laser etched. http://s1088.photobucket.com/user/tonyz2/library/?sort=3&page=1 http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=622757
  7. I just talked to Audio Ventures in Milwaukee about this, and the owner stated there is only one speaker for the 800. And, he said it is all original. Mixed signals here.... And by the way, I wasn't trying to hijack this sale at all, just trying to get more info to help out. (Wish I had the corners, but I don't...)
  8. Corollary: Why is it the MAN's responsibility to LOWER the lid, and not the WOMAN's responsibility to RAISE it after SHE is done? Because, in her mind, it's easier to let something drop with the aid of gravity, then to raise a weight, and, you should know that, you dummy.....
  9. Wow, very cool walnut lenses...what a great idea!
  10. Derrick, thanks for your offer. I am absolutely slammed for the next two months with work (healthcare insurance industry....), and family commitments, but don't let me stop you all. Mid Jan would be best for me, of course, dependent on the weather here in the Midwest.....
  11. I've talked with this guy, and he's a real piece of work....Operates out of the Indianapolis area. His ads always ask for a phone number, or he won't respond. Here's one: http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/ele/4736238068.html He goes by many alias's, Chuck, Charles, Lee, Dennis, Barbara, Barb, etc. Southern accent and talks a lot...... Do not dare give this guy your phone # or email. He will harass you and threaten you to no end. He is well known in the Indy area and vintage audio sites as a scammer and is very unstable. He is under investigation for scamming on facebook audio site. He also may use a Terre Haute phone number. If you have unfortunately dealt with this guy and are being harassed, please contact the Indy police dept. He is partial to large vintage receivers like Pioneer, Marantz, and Sansui.
  12. I have an interesting "problem" with Opus....not really a problem per se, but a situation....Because we live fairly close (within two hours of each other), he will occasionally send me listings of some really great things, but obviously those which he is not interested in.....and of course I know that there are many others that he is pursuing, or at least seriously looking at, that he doesn't send, or advertise on the forum. And, that's perfectly understandable and totally cool. I get it. It's probably a good thing that I don't see everything else!! I do really appreciate all of the time and effort that he spends researching and relaying good deals to the forum. Thanks Opus!!
  13. bachelor it up long enough and that answer will come to you. Ah, yes, good one.
  14. Mike, does the fabric glue work well? Does it dry clear?
  15. I think really there's only one question needed....Why? Go for it.
