Looking for folks suggestions on a pre. The NAD master series looks very nice (both the discontinued M15 and the new M17), but perhaps there is a balance out there between quality and price... so lets hear about them. Here is what I require: HDMI 2.0 5.1 4k Room correction I would be using separates and a stand alone DAC, so having a unit that doesn't have those extras might mean more money for things that matter. Currently,I am just running everything thru pre outs on a Pioneer... should I just keep doing the same? I think I want a stripped down system for sonice sake, but I still want the ability to process multi channel and have ability to handle 4k and hdmi 2.0... PRIMARY usage is critical listening or 2 channel and multi channel music... secondarily is Home theater.

Shipping might compromise your deal, but this place is right by my house and I go pick up in person. Lowest I have heard of for picked up 7ii's for new b stock was $1800 otd. I think anyone should be happy in the $2000-$2200 range shipped to your door step.

Well there ya go... one thing,as stated earlier ITT, I think high efficiency horns are better served by being off axis to LP... slightly behind the LP. it will help imaging tremendously.

I heard mixed results from folks using these test records based mainly on the fact that most home LP's have to deal with arch issues when manufacturing is done linearly. I have test records and have played them, but mainly I used the one I have to back up the set up and tuning I had done by ear. I don't have electronic test equip myself.

I think the crux of what is being said is... it's not the speakers. though even the 7's could probably be mod'ed to perform better. what is your listening room like? hardwood or bare floors?

well... Surely no one expects an Onkyo to be a "be all end all type" investment in amplification.I am sure from a HT perspective it would perform moderately. But 2 channel deserves better.

I only use one gauge of wire... because I bought one big spool of wire. I will probably NEVER use all of it, but I have it in case I need it. I think it's 10 or 12... I forget. edit: 250' spool of 12 gauge.

OP... use whatever you want as a center.

not only no... Hell no. folks don't normally choose gauge for sonic reasons... distance and resistance.
