  1. The veneers for the oil and clear finishes back then were matched on the pairs sold so that they were mirror images. The facing inner sides will mirror each other. It has been my understanding that the black finished speakers used veneer that did not make the standard for this. Personally I would not paint a nice wood finish in great shape. My academy has been painted by a PO, and looks fine from a distance though. I would not have done it. Now, if you get a banged up pair that would be difficult to make good as a natural wood finish, then a satin black painting project could make sense. The choice is yours, but be aware (even if you are never selling them) that the black finish sells for less than a nice walnut or oak. To further answer what I think you are asking, the veneers are of the wood species identified, i.e. oak is a real oak veneer and walnut is a real walnut veneer, they are not the same they are different species of wood.
  2. Use natural lump hardwood charcoal and never start with fluids and you'll never get any chemical taste. The difference between regular kingsford and natural lump is stunning.
  3. For slow smoking I've found a product by afire which is 100% natural coconut charcoal. It lasts longer than hardwood lump charcoal and works great in combination with such and soaked woods.
  4. Or was that Penny Lane, or maybe Doubleback Alley?
  5. Yours right? or is it maxg, the mystery poster?
  6. I agree with dtel... Women that try to wear the pants SUCK!!! Men that let them SUCK twice as much! I don't care if they are moving into a HUT!! I will bet you can find a few things she has that can go just as easily to make up for the room loss... Roger Hut, sweet hut. Bless this hut. My hut is your hut. Thou shalt not let moochers into thine hut. Pizza, the hut. The hut is where the heart is. A man's hut is his castle.
  7. Ok then I will step in. I am trained for the command of the rift raft, but it is clearly not needed here. Personally everyone I've met or dealt with here has been "top notch" for sure. A word of advice: always deploy the sea anchor if there is no tiller on the raft.
  8. Buy three klf 20's and be done with it. Then add 2 more klf 20's as surrounds, or maybe klf-10's. Timbre matching is what matters, don't screw with anything less.
  9. If you have klf-20 mains it would be perfect.
  10. MWM bass cabinets... moderate volume? At residential listening levels I doubt a laser micrometer could tell if those woofers will be moving at all. Did you know Rich has never heard the MWM bass cabinets mated with K402's on top? He has absolutely zero idea what he's in for. I can almost not bear the anticipation, waiting for him to get these finished, hooked up and simply astound himself with what he's hearing. I'm really looking forward to reading what he has to say after he's been physically assaulted and mauled over by his first listening experience. LOL, I knew someone would appreciate it.
  11. Some type of feather duster or one of those wooly or poly dusters, followed by a stylus brush on the stylus at moderate volume, followed by your favorite bass shaking music for the afternoon. That should do it. Avoid moisture, you might try a microfiber cloth also.
  12. People trust you with their money? Dang coytee i've kept up with the same pair of sunglasses since 1992. I guess the sun doesn't shine in Tennesee? LOL, just joshing with ya.
  13. It's not all wrong. Just the crap. Like any other product, there is still quality to be found and there is a lot of crap.
  14. I would love to hear that head on head also. Consider the maintenance also.
  15. For that kind of money why not go with a high mass platter rim drive like the vpi scout instead of an old idler drive? The 124 does have it's own cult followers so it must be pretty good, I'm just sayin....
  16. I don't think they get any farther west than Chicago.
  17. It's easy. Just use all of your zen skills. You did learn zen, right?
  18. Wrong Thebes. What you described is the bass player.
  19. I think we are witnessing the symptoms of that from the SF bay area jb.
  20. No. First you need a mentor. A really good one like me. Not really like me, actually me. Tuition rates are not cheap but fair, please have your financial aid package ready. Discounts will be given for transfer of funds outside the purview of the IRS. Once the financial arrangements are made you will be put through a rigorous and thorough program of rhythm, coordination, drug tolerance, party warrior ethics and protocol, and chick attraction. Only then will you have learned. Only then will you have earned the right, the obligation, and the honor of the title, percussionist. Many are called, yet few are chosen.
  21. I may be confused. My clocks are actually labeled "radio controlled" which is supposed to pick up a feed from the atomic clock in Colorado. They only acquire a signal at a set time each day. I have no idea what you have or how it is supposed to work.
  22. There's always this method for you horn players: http://www.wikihow.com/Blow-the-Shell-off-a-Hard-Boiled-Egg
  23. The forte's are a no brainer if they are working and in decent shape. For the same price as heresies you will get the bass you are used to and a 3 way design.
  24. Not exactly a theory, just the way ours operate. Yours must be different. On monday morning one was accurate and one needs to be moved to better receive a signal and had not changed yet.
