  1. Fisher used to make an old electronic reverb unit. JJK
  2. Dean: I plan to install (already ordered) the CT125's in my K-horns and Cornwall with your networks which are already installed. Should I contemplate any changes to these networks? JJK
  3. The MY-HD HDTV 130 tuner card with DVI daughter card works very well and will record directly to your hard drive. It has a remote so you can control it from your TV location via 50 ft serial cable. It also has about 10 different resolutions it can ouput to your tv via analog to component conversion cables. Mine is 36 ft long with another 6 ft conversion cable at the end. Only drawback is 720P/1080i. If you have a huge hard drive you can record hours of HD stuff at about 8.6 gigs per hour. Bitrate is 40 megs. You can find it at digitalconnection.com for about $250.00. There is more info on the AVS forum. It has optical 5.1 output for sound. JJK
  4. Mallette: With all of that stuff along the walls (close to the K horns) did you find that there might be some acoustical changes on the low end? JJK
  5. Very bad idea to set it on your sub. Could possibly do a lot of magnetic damage to the set. JJK
  6. Caps that are 20 years old will have a lot of degradation. In older speakers the difference in performance will be astounding. If you get the new networks from Crites/Dean they will perform even better as the design and components they use are far superior to the older components. I didn't need an A/B test with mine as the difference was so pronounced. In fact if you want my old networks you can have them for the cost of shipping. They are very good boat anchors. JJK
  7. IB Slamin: Well I guess I should have said to keep them at a level not higher than 98 spl. And I only have one Cornwall center 8" from the wall so I can't evaluate two of them. JJK
  8. Being that you had the same problem with both systems, junk the amplifier or check your hearing response. JJK
  9. If the lightning is close enough removing the plug will do no good if the house is blasted to smitherenes. "Ball" lightning just don't care either. JJK
  10. You know, you have to love that speaker. Might have to take it to bed with you. I'm afraid to ask--what do you drive that baby with? JJK
  11. What's a CT125? Do you need new networks with these? JJK
  12. They are K77's with gold cap and black horn. JJK
  13. I think the Cornwall does a better job on voices than the K-horns. Even if you pump the crap out of it, it just hangs in there. This is around the 98 db spl point. JJK
  14. I was curious as when I put in a test cd at the higher frequencies with 98 db output I hear nothing above 12.5 khz. I assumed it was my hearing loss at first but then maybe it's tweeter loss or both. JJK
  15. With my powered center channel I do not have to angle anything, measure anything, or sit in the sweet spot with a safety belt. I can walk around to any point in the room and hear everything from the proper direction. Yes it is a "forced scenario" and there are acoustic anomolies in the non-acoustically modified ordinary living room. I have had great confidence since 1965 in what PWK and Bell Labs have recommended. JJK
  16. With old K77's how is the frequency response affected? Does the high end roll off some? A lot? Or not? JJK
  17. Wow!, And I thought 1kw was a lot. I can't pick up 90 pounds anymore so I'll let that one pass. JJK
  18. In 1965 My new Fisher amplifier (I believe model 202B) had a power derived center channel output with a separate volume control which I used to drive the Cornwall. Fisher (I believe) was one of the first companies to provide this option. Not sure what their inspiration was but it worked just fine. JJK
  19. I forgot to mention, of all things, the intensity and volume of the sound of the lightning bolt. Lets' see---34 quadrillion watts through a 1" diameter wire in about 1 second, I don't know if my K-horns can handle that kind of nirvana. I believe some talented person can draw a cartoon of this incident. JJK
  20. There is approximately 34 quadrillion watts of power in the average lightning bolt. The width of the plasma stream is on the average 1" in diameter. In a recent lightning strike to a huge oak tree 30 feet from our house all of the bark on the bottom 20 ft of the tree was blown off. The 4 ft diameter tree was vertically sectioned in quarters from the top to the bottom. Several 1" diameter 10 ft long snake like crystallized quartz-like projections connected the tree stump to the septic tank metal 4" diameter drain pipe. The bolt travelled up the pipe to the house and melted the aluminum siding, blew out all the circuit breakers in the electrical panel, wiped out the security system control, monitor, and battery and all of the sensors on that side of the house. The Denon receiver was also toasted and wasn't turned on. The upstairs computer modem and telephone was also toasted. The well pump 88 ft down was also blown to smitherenes. I was standing in the kitchen eating a donut when the lightning struck and I'll tell you what, that was a real pants crapper. When the stump was removed we found the melted "snakes" connecting to the septic pipe. Had to get a new Denon Receiver, phone, modem, security system, well pump, and siding. And tree removal showed the perfect quartering right down the middle. Lightning always wins, humans always loose. JJK
  21. Well, as long as we are questioning K77 performance, if the diaphrams are old and decrepid in the K77's will the frequency response creep downward from lets say 16khz to 12 khz? JJK
  22. The problem of traveling in the space/time continuim is you have to know what you didn't know now before you knew what you didn't know then. JJK
  23. I guess with "tube amp DC" the speaker will operate but with "SS amp DC" the speaker will not. Nice. JJK
  24. Watched on the NEWS about a secret oil shale extraction process in Colorado on 1 acre of ground that the oil companies are going ga ga over the results. This would tap a suspected 1.8 trillion barrels of oil. Theoretically no harm to environment except they use a lot of water in the process. JJK
  25. There are many barrel sizes in the world, does anyone know the preferred standard barrel size? JJK
