  1. I'm saving my vinyl for the Antiques Road Show. JJK
  2. If you want about a zillion replies to your question try the AVS forum. They have many catagories on what people are doing now with everything you can think of in home theatre. JJK
  3. Well let's see what's in my wallet. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, no not enough. JJK
  4. The new GTO styling didn't do a thing for me. Total dud. JJK
  5. Tube testers, aaahhh yyeeesss, now I remember, the old ones, and even then they didn't work too good when they were new. JJK
  6. You will notice on your network caps that PWK tested and wrote the actual values in crayon on the caps. So this means you have to buy a bunch of caps, an expensive cap tester, then find some that exactly match the value wriiten on the cap, not the value from the manufacturer of the cap. Save yourself a whole lot of trouble and purchase the networks from someone who already did all of this micky-mouse stuff. JJK
  7. I have the Dean networks and they do use more modern and different components. The difference in the sound quality was staggeringly significant and well worth the price of the upgrade. (and I don't even use tubes) JJK
  8. I have seen the 1080P Mitsubshi's and they are far better than the 720P's by a very wide margin. They have 2 million pixels and are twice as bright. Actually, the difference between the 720P and 1080P sets is stunning. They had a 65" (?) and several others cranked up with a local feed. JJK
  9. Yes. Don't even give it another thought. Just do it. JJK
  10. When you have the L-88 screaming at 6800 rpm with the headers uncorked, that's acoustic power of the third kind. JJK
  11. I have been known to overreact in my assessments. JJK
  12. I f I recall correctly all the DLP's were tuned into local stations (cable? satelite?) and the projection setup was showing a DVD movie upconverted. But not totally sure what was being shown. The DLP's were as clear or better than my Sony 34" HDTV tube type. JJK
  13. If they cut out all the pieces on a CAD machine they could hire a dummy to push the button and make a bunch per day. JJK
  14. I have checked the 1080P DLP's and projection setups at my local dealer and the difference between 720P and 1080P is almost as much as the difference between analog and High Definition. The DLP's are still much brighter and have more contrast than the projection setups, and that includes the $15,000.00 projectors. The DLP 1080P sets have twice the amount of pixels (1million upgraded to 2million) and an upgraded brightness almost twice as much. The 65" DLP's were really outstanding. The 1080P projection setup was 2.35 x 1 and was considerably dimmer and less contrast, ($15,000.00) but it was much better than the old projection setups. Anybody that owns 720P sets are going to be stunned when they see the new models. JJK
  15. Well let's see, using chaos theory and applying it to the size of the big holes created by the small holes, allowing for distractions, coffee breaks, leap seconds, about 88,000 pairs. JJK
  16. Well if you have a computer and can pipe it into your sound system get the Sony Sound Forge software and use the compression filter at different settings to see what it does. They also can use "normalize", "Clipped peak restoration" "wave hammer" and a bunch of other filters to boost up weak voices. JJK
  17. We like it loud because it starts out loud where it is played (live) by a band or recorded. Every process after the band has played the music makes it less loud than the original live playing of the music. You cannot reproduce sound levels created by a 3 foot diameter drum, or a 15 ft piano with 15" cones or 1" diaphrams. A 20" diameter cymbol raidiates 20" -+ throughout a room whereas you would need 40-- 1" tweeters spaced in a circle of 20" back to back to recreate the radiated sound area of the cymbol. Not a matter of power output but radiated area to fill the room. This is my idea of where the next breakthroughs will be in sound reproduction. JJK
  18. Then wondering why all the news reports said it was caused by the main dude experimenting with 5 bags instead of using the normal 6 bags. (Navy trying to save money). There was also an hour long documentary that was produced by Sandia Labs that stated the powder bags were old and that they recreated and confirmed that the powder ignited prematurely after exhaustively testing the old bags. The US Navy's reputation for telling the truth on a scale of 1 to 100 is about a -1. JJK
  19. Those caps are the old standard garbage and the two in parrallel are the same value as the one, more or less. JJK
  20. The best gunshots I ever heard was in "Shane" and they used black powder loads to make the shots sound longer. To make a single conventional speaker handle the enormous transient of a gunshot in my opinion is impossible, maybe about 20 K-horns in parrallel would work. JJK
  21. I use an equalizer and tone conrtrols and a Hughes expander/compander. The equalizer feeds the K-horns only as the expander/compander. The amp tone controls are set fro treble +3/4, base +3/4 and loudness +1/2. The equalizer is set for +5db at 30hz, +2 db at 60hz, -3 db at 240 hz, -3 bd at 480 hz, +1 db at 8khz, +2 db at 16khz. The main amp (7.1)which drives the K-horn amp, sub, center channel and side and rear speakers has the tone control set for +10db treble and 0db base. PLC-II is the final setting for CD's. Hearing range is 20hz to 12.5khz. The bass is unbelievable and the cymbol hits are teeth rattlers. Although sometimes the voices are a bit peak-ed which requires toning down abit. The settings will change when viewing DVD concerts however as the treble tone control has to be around flat or +1/2. The TV 5/1 will revert to DD ES with a bit too much bass. The FM broadcasts also have a bit too much bass. The optical out of the MY-HD 120 HDTV computer card is exceptional as also the D-VHS VCR. JJK
  22. Then you could call it a "deductor". JJK
  23. I'm into this group of old guy's (no Eric Claptons here) Blues, Country, and Rock. The best CD is "Watch This" with "Blues For Robert Lockwood" and "At Last". Also "Crazy Love". The Older piano sound is refreshing as also He will actually answer your "E" mail. The CD's are only available at his website, colindussault.com/ JJK
  24. Dean: OK. Let's get down to basics. Will they work in my 65's? What is the cost? I don't care what the letters are. Can I get a trade -in on the "A's"? Can the "A's" be modified? Thanks. JJK
