  3. oh yea my wife can snore with the best of them. many a touchy topics here...i feel bad for waking her from a sound sleep yet where does that leave me? better to just hit the couch and await the rath for bailing out in the night? no really good answer here i think, better to pick a topic you can win

  5. I have accumulated several sacds and was more than curious as to the benefit in two-channel mode play back. I was in best buy and bought the only dedicated cd player they offered. This is a Sony scd-ce595. It sounds flat and lack-luster to me compared to my old player? I think I have it set right to play two channel, I know its a cheapo player so it will be going back. Am I doing something wrong? My old player is perhaps 15 yrs. Old. I have tried to get some suggestions as to a good player before with little luck. I listen to ALL MUSIC I dont want to buy another soon so a good one under 800.00 would be great. As well as a place to get it as kind of a caveat I am leaning heavily towards buildind some sort of cornscala speaker in the future.
  6. cable is very fast. a friend just signed up for vonage but it was just the other day so i can't tell you what he thinks about it. i had dsl prior to my cable connection and cable is three times faster here. good luck
  7. willie has written some of my favorite tunes. take a look at who wrote that song your listening to, it just might have been mr. nelson
  8. when i was a junior in high school a new audio store opened in town. the only audio store in fact. they sold klipsch. i was hooked. i would be in there every day after school. friends with money bought them, kirk got a pair of la scslas, pete got a set of heresys and phil got some cornwalls. i went traveling and never got any, always in the back of my mind but i had to wait. the store only lasted a year or two, but it was long enough to make it's mark on this poor kid. sooo many years ago. seems like yesterday
  9. i got a lovely hand made card from my kids. i got to take my wife and kids along with my father-in-law out for dinner, some beers and live music. then i went up town for open mic night and some more live music. gotta like it live. ahhh the good life

Better yet, delete them right now during the transfer process. No sense in wasting space if you'll never listen to a song. As long as your CDs are always around, it'd be real easy to go back and dig out the few missing songs if for whatever reason you were dying to have them. Doesn't CDEx let you select which tracks you want (in the case that you don't want the whole CD)? Btw, when using wave files...just keep all the settings identical to redbook audio (the format your CDs are already in). A 44.1kHz bit rate, stereo 16 bit interleaved. ---------------- i like most of the music on cd's even if it isn't my cup of tea one day it might be nice the next day so i tend to keep things just as they come. heck by the time i have re-done these (previous rip was done as 128mp3) i will have another 100 or so cd's so another portable hd will be in the future. i really like the ability to play music for days on end at random, never get bored like listening to the radio. thanks for the help rock on rich
  11. well here goes, new 400 gig external hd and 700+ cd's and 250 +or- albums. think they will fit? i'll tell you in a year when they are all done. i'm just too lazy to do the math.
  12. is 1411 kbps as a .wav file good? that seems like the best i can get on here.

  15. i have a new e-mu 1212 that is not installed yet. does the sound card come into play during this process? i have roxio 5 plat, and musicmatch to use. i want the best quality files i can get. any help will be appreciated. thank you rich
  16. nice score! i really have to wonder what you guys do with so many speakers, i have some nice forte's w/o and would love to trade up to some corns. seems like some of you might want to find a place to sit in your house that isn't vibrating. ok perhaps not but still nice speakers even if someone else did get them. i must have been really bad in a past life. rock on
  17. i have met a few famous folks, clint east wood was on a bicycle ride with friends up at lake tahoe and stopped to chat with myself and some friends. doc watson came by the cabins at lake tahoe to visit the guy who opened for him the night before, they played a couple songs, what a real treat. but the best time ever was while hitchhiking from tahoe down to santa barbara i got picked up by really nice mexican gent, we got along great, just chewed the fat about everything under the sun. when it was time for me to leave he said it was a pleasure talking with me and said he was cesar chavez. the things we spoke about for that 3 hrs made alot more sence after i knew who he was.
  18. doctors are not over paid pro athletes on the other hand are way over paid imo.
  19. with all of your help i am slowly getting closer to putting my vinyl on my hard drive the correct way. just ordered the e-mu 1212 card today. this leads me to my tt. it is no great tt for sure (jvc ql-f300)however it is solid and seems to work fine. the cartridge in it is an audio-technica vs220e. how do you know when it is time for a new stylus or cartridge? i do not know but it seems to me this would be the most critical part of the tt function. any recommendations on a replacement, keeping in mind the tt isn't a $12,000 dollar rig. can you get a nice one for around 100.00? i would be willing to bet this is the original one that came on here. my brother gave it to me (the tt)when he quit using vinyl. i am open to, and appreciate recommendations. oh yea the tt is probably 20 yrs old and at this time i am not really interested in buying a new unit. thank you rich

  21. thank you griffinator 1212 it is i appreciate the input
  22. i love live music, too bad it usually so loud that it is painfull. our local pub has live music every sat night, and open mic every sun night. very nice indeed except they use those darn klipsch speakers and it makes my ears ring after 6 hrs. hmmm i'm pretty sure it isn't the beer. naww it has to be the volume. couldn't be the beer could it? didn't think so! gotta love home made music it is still the best. nice typing huh?
